Hey, I know what that's like. I had to know all that stuff for a zoology course required during my first semester of my college freshman year. The next year, they changed the course into a senior-level course.

Ummm....the content is basically identical so I don't see why it would matter if someone was buying it just for Ho-oh (even though you get both I can understand if someone wanted to see the Ho-oh scene).

I only want to use GSC pokemon so Feraligatr for sure, Ampharos, Ursaring and maybe Umbreon. I grew to love that guy in Colloseum but Espeon might be better due to its ability to actually attack. I think I'll fit a Togetic in there somewhere too.

BARRING the following things:

HG Kyogre > SS Groudon
Anything that deals with Ho-oh > Anything that deals with Lugia (in-game anyways)
HG has Gligar and Donphan (They're just awesome)

Everything else SS is better. but these reasons alone are probly enough to buy HG, just even the 2nd one is enough

Far, far, far superior. I had not heard these yet. The Ho-oh theme almost sounds Final Fantasy, while the Lugia theme is, meh.. just washed up.

With Lugia's theme it was like "HOLY **** HIGH PITCHED MURDER SOUNDS WHOA"

After that the theme was mediocre.

And the Ho-oh stuff was beautiful. Much more beautiful in game than on YT, thats for sure.

As amazing is Teddiursa / Ursaring is, it still falls to Gligar, Donphan, and Arcanine.

Or y'know, just switch-in Kyogre.

Back when 2nd Gen rolled around, I preferred Donphan, Arcanine, Primeape, etc. Now, I feel the complete opposite. I prefer Persian > Primeape, Ninetales > Arcanine, Ursaring > Donphan, Ledian > Ariados, and Delibird > Gligar. Always like Skarmory more than Mantine, though I hate Mawile, preferring Sableye instead.

Also, I find it interesting that they're pairing up the Swalot family with the Claydol family. Gulpin/Swalot are the obvious spiritual successors to Grimer/Muk, so who might Baltoy/Claydol be succeeding from 1st Gen?

sandshrew and sandslash make the most sense

both ground types with rapid spin and high defense
sandslash hits on the physical side while claydol hits on the special side

it's definitely not diglett and dugtrio

cubone and marowak are possible but they dont' fit a similar role to what claydol does

yea, those are the only 2 evo stage ground types in RBY outside of ryhorn and rhydon which is pretty obvious that it's not them as rhydon got an evo

so sandshrew and sandslash make the most sense

I was just thinking Diglett/Dugtrio, since Claydol roughly resembles multiple heads just as Dugtrio does, and since they're both ground type. Statistically, I suppose you're right about Sandshrew/Sandslash, though Cubone/Marowak still raises an interesting point. I want to go with Diglett/Dugtrio, but you've provided a good argument.

diglett and dugtrio have almost nothing in common with baltoy and claydol outside of both being ground types, stats don't match-up (i'm using stats as that's been the most effective indicator to relationships between pokes, outside of them blatantly saying it (zangoose seviper thing)

cubone and marowak have their own special item, why don't baltoy and claydol have that?

it just makes the most sense

both are defensively oriented pokes, both have an ability that dodges moves (sandslash's has better evasion in SS while claydol is immune to earthquake), they both have rapid spin, the stats are the most similar too

i was wrong about saying claydol can be an attacker, it's only a wall while sandslash can work as a sweeper

i have a feeling though it has more to do with bronzor and bronzong than with sandshrew/sandslash

I can definitely see the Bronzor/Bronzong matchup, given that both are based on inanimate objects, are secondary psychics, and primary mineral-types. I think the case is closed.

Now I'm itching to start a thread about parallel Pokemon in this regard.

You're forced to get the Legendary Bird of the game that you but before you can fight the Elite 4.

If you want a chance to reset for a good Lugia, get Heartgold
