Even should PS3 be offline again for a while like the last attack the way I see it is it doesn't stop me from playing the games I got or will buy. I don't instantly rush to go online to play with others until I got an understanding of the controls and the game itself. Plus it gives me good reason to try and Platinum some of the games that are offline based or to knock out a game that has both offline and online trophies.

It just doesn't matter to me. I already gave them my money for three PS3s, and I will continue to do so for the games I want. The point is it taking them offline won't do anything but make people feel sorry for them because, in general, people aren't as informed as desired.
I agree, it's stupid if they go through and attack PSN again though, because when they saw how bad it was affecting us "downtrodden consumers" they stopped the attack and said they wouldn't do it again.

Didn't Anonymous threaten to hack Facebook somtime during November? I don't recall this ever happening.
Yeah, I don't think they tried, and if they did, they failed and didn't tell anyone. Which why would they hide the fact that they failed? o.O hahaha

Anonymous isn't doing any good. Them posting customer information and credit card numbers online isn't going to do anything to stop SOPA. They claim to do good yet they hurt the average citizen by posting these numbers. They are criminals. And yes SOPA is bad, but posting people's credit card numbers isn't gonna do ****.

The credit card and PSN thing in the early year was not because of SOPA.

Those people were not Anonymouns.

Also - The credit card and PSN thing in the early year was not because of SOPA. Those people were not Anonymous.

Yeah you repeated yourself twice. Also anonymous has hacked other sites and posted credit card information. Straftor is a good example. The fact that you are defending criminals is pretty funny, actually.

Yeah, there was even a news thing saying Annonymous hacked people's personal credit cards from a company and used them to donate money to charities. Charities that now have to pay back the money that was supposedly given to them out of their own pocket. Like sorry, but theft is theft.

And yeah SOPA's not cool (though last I checked the vote went against it), but shutting down stuff like PSN and making it so people like us who have NOTHING to do with it have to suffer instead of the people that might actually support it, is ridiculous.

Your being so quick to judge is also just as entertaining.

The real anonymous attacked Sony over the internet over a Lawsuit that Sony made towards a guy hacking his PS3.

It was a simple action, and hurt no one, but made a statement. They also asked people to go to their Sony stores and complain, on a given date.

Well, some rogues decided they wanted to attack Sony again and chose to call themselves Anonymous and do just what you are complaining about. Thanks to them, people have a sour attitude towards them and now completely dismiss anything they attempt to do. Some of these folks got caught, though.

That crap happened LONG before SOPA got popular. As i've said a number of times already.

You've still dismissed the fact that Anonymous has hacked other sites and stolen money from people's credit cards. And the fact that they stole does in fact make them a criminal.

ZIO, I was saying if Annonymous DID shut down PSN again over SOPA as they're discussing/threatening to do. I wasn't talking about the initial 3 and a half week hack of PSN that was ridiculous.

The real anonymous, or the rogues? The rogues had gone on a powerspree back in the beginning of the year. I dismiss it because it wasn't Anonymous.

I don;t think Anonymous would do such a silly things. Especially since they have actual political power overseas.

Their problem is in their name. Any one could be Anonymous. Thus, anyone who acts as Anonymous is grouped with all of them.

And how do you know who is really Anonymous and who is rogue?

Well, you can find out by doing a little research.

Anonymous, themselves denied accusations of the PSN outage.

But then again, one should not believe much of anything they are told, or see.

That's the problem when your group is "Anonymous", you have no central identity, no names, no affiliations. With the security of anonymity, you also open yourself to a can of worms if someone goes out and does something in your name. I'm not saying if some other guys DID pose as Anon, but if someone does choose to hack under their name, there is very little Anonymous can do to dismiss it. Simply saying "We didn't do that" is not gonna convince us.

For what it's worth, around the time PSN was getting attacked, I do remember reading articles about other websites getting attacked by Anonymous as well. Such sites taken down included Bank of America and Capital One. I just find it too coincidental that the moment Anon declares "war" on Sony, and all these other hacks occur, Anon starts saying "We didn't do it, it was someone else." Maybe it was someone else, but to expect this underground hacker community to come at large when Anon makes their declaration is a bit...hard to believe.

Can you please rephrase the question?

Why do you have three PS3s?

I have 3...well I'll soon have 2 because I'm getting rid of one of them. The first was the 60GB PS3 I bought on release date. Unfortunately the laser so that it could read games died and I fear if I send it to Sony they'll replace it with a slim or something I don't want. The 2nd is a slim that is 120GB but it suddenly kicked the bucket. Now I just bought another slim that is 320GB. I'll need to get rid of the 120GB Slim. I'm definitely keeping the 60GB. I'll need to call Sony or something and ask what they would do...

PS3s break down? Damn, I thought only 360s did on an annual basis. :p

And Uncharted 3 is an awesome game!

You and other people on my list said that actually! Makes me wonder if all you guys are psychic or something. XD The 60GB lasted for years. The laser fault is actually the first problem it has had since I bought it. They migrated to slim PS3s and phased out all 60GBs at that time when it couldn't read disc anymore. The first slim 120GB I bought didn't last near as long. Kinda shocked me honestly but I suppose that over the yellow light of death. Since I have Plus I'll just have to copy the data to my newer PS3.

Yep...I believe they were the last of the fat PS3's. Another reason why I bought that model...so my PS2 and PSX games could still get some love.

Indeed, though...I somehow suspect Front Mission 3, FFVIII, Chrono Cross, and Legend of Dragoon will all wind up looking...not cool on my big screen so...I'll probably use the PS2 that's right next to my PS3 to play them, lol.

So they were planning to attack PSN? Douchebags.

Or is it possible they tried and failed...and are now just saying they won't do it? Either way...these guys just annoy me.

Give evidence of this and I'll listen, but I'm gonna side with ZIO and say that you guys don't really know what you're talking about. The thing with Anonymous is that you can't take the outliers that claim to be part of Anonymous and put them in a group with Anonymous, it just doesn't work that way.

Again, that is their fault for not being a cohesive group. They hide their faces behind by not being an established group, that is protected through anonymity. Anyone can use this name for their own ideals. When you do that, and people attack under your name, you can't simply say "I didn't do this." You BETTER offer something more than that, such as the individual's name, address, and other contact information if you feel like they don't represent Anon. In fact, it was one of the links posted here where they did "turn someone in", but the address belonged to some old lady. Yeah, good **** guys. If they can't even "disprove" crimes committed under their name, well they should have realized that prior to creating such a group.

Look, I'm all for "innocent until proven guilty", and perhaps these guys ARE getting framed. However, if these guys truly believe they are being framed, then it shouldn't be a problem for them to individuate themselves from such people, right?

Either way, I think that people are defending a group of hackers is just kind of weird into and of itself.
They aren't just a bunch of hackers. The group Anonymous has political power overseas. I wish you would not immediately judge something off what you've been told and rather see the whole picture. It's on the internet. Look it up.

They are also fighting a good fight against SOPA. There's going to be a few bad eggs, but no place is all good - example - Wikileaks and Anonymous helped expose American troops taking an attack helicopter to innocent, unarmed people and laughed about it.

Sources that show us that they compromised consumer accounts, but not that they stole money. Not only that, but these sources. Certainly they would never misconstrue what they report. Never. This is why Fox News is the most trusted news source. Ask John Stewart.

I won't completely dismiss them, though. There's some truth behind them all.

-extended text-
I honestly don't want to discuss it. I said what I've wanted to. Your mind is set as is mine. I don't agree with everything that is being done, but I support the message they are writing for their campaign against SOPA. They have power that can help prevent it, and I want it to be utilized and stop the bill from passing.

They never originally said they were going to attack PSN, only that they would attack Sony. And now they've narrowed that down.

I'm done with the subject. I'd prefer we move on. This is the PS3 thread - not Discuss the going ons of SOPA and Anonymous. I suggest we move it to the Pool Room and the SOPA thread if you want to discuss it further, since that's where this spawns from.

The thing is, they ARE a bunch of hackers. You can fancy it up all you want, but what they do is hack sites, accounts, information, and other things. That's called HACKING. And the people who do that are called HACKERS, it's kind of plain and simple.

And even if they ARE "fighting the good fight against SOPA" do you REALLY think hacking things and going around giving off the impression they're "cyber terrorists" (because that IS what people see them as and will most likely always see them as) is the RIGHT way to do it? Honestly?
