I wonder if PSN+ subscribers will get some sort of compensation for this if this outrage lasts for even longer?

Anonymous specifically said that they're not responsible, and that their next attack will avoid the PlayStation Network. If they were behind the attack, they would have taken credit for it. They have no reason to deny it.

Well they'd want to hit Sony hard and still keep some of the support they have so of course they wouldn't take the credit for it

No, really. Think about it. They've taken responsibility for any form of attack they've carried out in the last five years. Why stop now? Doesn't fit their pattern.

It doesn't fit their pattern to down something that directly affects us the consumers does it? Who's to say this isn't their fault either?

Hence why they stopped doing it in the first place. It isn't directly their fault. The group as a whole believes that attacking the PlayStation Network undermines their cause by alienating possible supporters, but they have stated that a dissenting portion is most likely the culprit. They see pissing off the consumer as a good thing, as it will potentially turn them against Sony for having unreliable service and prevent them from making future revenue. It's two separate groups with different reasoning.

You guys realize there's another group besides Anonymous going after Sony right? No point in pointing fingers when you actually don't know who's behind it. I'll try to find the post again.

Edit: the other group is SonyRecon. Do a google search.

I know. I've been saying that. Anonymous is taking the heat for this because no one knows who else to blame.

Yeah. I definitely am for Anonymous even if it means some online downtime. I'm not so big for online gaming anyways.

Why would Anonymous attack something that so many average people hold so close to their heart? Their trying to gain support, not heavily lose it.

Ok now I blame Anonymous

I hate them now
They've specifically not taken credit for the incident. Don't be ignorant.

And Anon planning to attack them after PSN comes back.
An attack on Sony, allegedly. Also Anonymous has said that this won't be happening and that the story was made up by VGN. Also I'm assuming you're referring to this article: http://vgn365.com/2011/04/22/anonymous-we-will-attack-sony-when-psn-is-back-online/.

^ Yeah, that's the article I read. So it's all a sham? That's interesting.

Sony should just hire their own uber hacker group squad...perhaps borrow some from the military and get to work lol.

It's hard to be sure but the vibe from anonnews is that it's made up by VGN. I mean the article itself is kinda sketchy, when Anonymous does stuff on the news etc I've never seen them use names of the users, and that article says a member named "Kato" told them of what was going to happen. So yeah. No evidence really points to there being any truth to the article.

If service isn't restored by Monday, I will be extremely displeased. Then again, I don't suppose this is as bad as the 11-day XBox Live outage that happened back in 2007.

Hehe the funny thing is they decide to do maintenance on the 4 days I get off from work and thought I can spend at least a few hours on those days playing with my buddies since work is crazy and I'm never home.

Yeah, it's not cool it goes down the 4 days I could get most online play done. Maybe it's a sign to "study for your freaking exams because you can go on PSN Thursday night when you're done them".

Still though, any group hacking PSN or Sony or stopping me from using parts of my system isn't going to turn me against Sony, it's going to turn me against the group for being a bunch of jerks, regardless of who they are.

New article in the Anon v Sony developments: http://www.examiner.com/anonymous-i...ation-outage-we-didn-t-do-it-sony-incompetent.

People are too quick to jump to conclusions.

@Livewires: To be honest there's no way to know if Sony's telling the truth about being hacked at all. For all we know they could have just ****ed up. It's kind of sad that so many people are this mad about PSN being down for a few days. I have a PS3 and yeah it's a minor inconvenience that I can't play ACB online but geez, it's not the end of the world.

Coming from my own experiences in Anon DDOS's (2 minor ones for funzies), I can safely say that this really doesn't seem like an Anon attack, and besides, no one on irc knows what the crap is going on.

Most likely either some guy got a group up/is using a botnet to do this individually or Sony simply effed things up.

On the bright side the bringing down of PSN hasn't affected as much as it seems to affect others since I've been playing Minecraft and GoW2 to prepare for Monday more than CoDBlOps

I just got Conduit 2 for the Wii today to keep me busy. Hopefully, PSN comes back up tomorrow. I have a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament in a week I need to practice for.

I just find it funny that if it is Sony's fault for the servers being down, it just happens to coincide with Anon and other hacker groups declaring war on Sony. So it's either a good PR move from Sony, or they did get hacked.

I've just been practicing Mortal Kombat 9 combos and mixups. I'm loving this game. I'm just dying for offline casuals/friendlies/practice though. ):

I love it how you can't play a few of Capcom's games due to their awesome DRM which requires you to have an active connection to the PSN. Oh Capcom...:)

Ergh...it's been a pain waiting for PSN to be fixed. All I wanted to do was play some LBP online. Oh well, at least I achieved my goal of getting the platinum trophy on InFamous while I've been waiting. This is just me, but I think Sony should give everyone $10 to spend on PSN once it's back up as compensation for waiting so long.

Honestly, I don't think they have much of an obligation to give everybody 10 bucks because PSN went down. Sure everybody wasted 300-600 dollars depending on when you bought it and where, but since PSN IS a free service after all, they don't have much obligation to just hand out 10 bucks to everyone. I would agree on giving PSN+ users 10 bucks though. They DO pay for the premium content and they do deserve some sort of compensation timo

I'd be all for that. Or at least have it so you get one free "under $10" download in the meantime. That way I could save it until the new BBCS patch comes out and get Platinum without paying.
