Neutral game is all I have over you :( lol
But you're Akihiko though. I'm sure if you spend more time on Narukami, matches will be easy for you.

You can call me whichever you want (or base it off of what board we're at?), it's cool either way. Nice to know you have a Smashboards account since I don't go to the P4A section of the boards over on GFAQs as much as I should.
P4A gamefaqs? i don't go on there either lol. it's really just B8.

but hope you guys don't mind me checking here sometimes when i want to play some games. hopefully I/my connection won't be too ass.

Well, if your location is up to date, and unless your connection is really bad and on wireless, we should have decent bars. Most everyone is EC or Canada though.

I'll actually probably be heading on to play P4A (or one of BB or TTT2 despite being terrible at it if nobody's on) so if I see people on then, I'll probably make a room and invite whoever.

It was my one good match of the month, lol. Only 16 days until I'm eligible for another one.

GGs everyone, sorry to bail like that, I started talking to a friend on AIM.

So...much....Labrys and Shabrys....:urg:

This isn't Noel. Stop mashing, Livewire.
Pssh, I'm not even that mashy of a Noel compared to like 90% of them. Urgh, I don't know how to block/deal with Labrys or Shabrys pressure. That and I keep thinking j.B is a decent jump in tool.

Ask anyone and they'll say you do 2D/4D on all your wakeups or when you're being frame trapped as Noel lol.

Seriously though, learn to block better on the wakeup. You're getting the neutral defense down, but wakeup is another story. Too much black spot or DP. Tip for any game, if you see a jump in and your DP gets blocked when they land, it's a safe jump. And yes, j.B is a good jump tool. If you get a CH j.B, you can do like 5K with one meter.

One thing I've noticed is I'd try to jump in on Labrys with j.B or j.C and I believe her 2B would come out faster and go through it. As well, I'd try to 2A through some of Shabrys's things to have...I'm not quite sure what it was but I think it might have been 5B (possibly 5A? I don't play Shabrys so I don't really know her normals that well) was beating it out on startup and range every time so I was trying to think of ways to approach.

Even though it's an anime/air dash fighter, you can't just jump in for free, they're going to anti air you. j.C with Chie is what you use to bait out those anti airs to stall yourself and then CH them for big damage. This will teach your opponent that they can't AA for free. Not sure about your 2A thing. If you just want to start a blockstring, 5A is your best bet. 2A itself has uses like low profiling under certain moves, but you're not ready for that.

I feel like you're not understanding how footsies work, Livewire. To get in, you have to pick your moments by walking them into their disadvantageous position. You can also wait for a whiffed move and then go in with Chie because of her speed. Jump/air dash normals aren't always the answer for approaching.

Yeah I meant "running 5A"
Yeah, I was kinda confuse when you put running 2A since that's what I was trying against Teczero. And Minato, I'd respond more in depth to your comment if I felt I'd have any sort of real knowledge to add to it, so for now, I'm just going to say that I acknowledge and get what you're saying and that I'll try to look into it. Though it is good to know my neutral defense is at least getting better.

Yeah, honestly even in BB, you'll be blocking my quick overheads with Rachel (although I always mess up the fuzzy). But once you get knocked down, a switch gets turned off and your defense disappears. Breaking habits is hard, but if you keep reminding yourself midmatch, it slowly gets easier to adapt.

Edit: Also GGs, to Sion and Tec. Sion's Akihiko's going to be scary if he doesn't drop this game. I'm just lucky I play such a good character lol

Livewire, you should probably treat Labrys and Shabrys like two different characters because they are. Despite sharing a lot in common in their movesets, they're very different in the way they play, especially mixups and pressure. Shabrys can't chain her normals and they're kind of unsafe, and her gatlings are much more limited, but ASTERIUS. Labrys mixup is really obnoxiously obvious unless she's got knockdown, and her pressure isn't the greatest. Even their frame data is quite variable.

You probably need to focus on your own character at this point, but learning about other characters is important too. Especially since Labrys/Shabrys are pretty common to play against here.

It's weird with them since in a way I do treat them as different characters in terms of their Personas and their special/supers (aka I don't have to worry about 43567876 damage Red Axe super with Shabrys), but the same in terms of their normals/dp/axe range. Truth be told, the axe range is what gets me most of the time since, to me, it always looks like it has shorter range than it does so I'll try to get in an connect on things that look like they might hit when in reality they don't. I think I probably need to pay attention and try to remember the hitbox ranges more from now on.

If ranges are the problem, look at the hitbox pictures or go into training mode and then figure out the ranges. Some players can figure it out midmatch while others need to test it out to be sure. Try to figure out if you're the type of person that can adapt and learn midmatch or something that has to lab it out (hint, you are the latter). I'm actually curious how much time you've gone to lab with a goal in mind though after matches. I know P4U isn't your main game, but your habits from BB are similar.

Also, learn that oki, Livewire. Too many combos into Dragon Kick and no 5/2DD. Also try to maximize the damage in your combos if you have the meter to go for damage. Also learn to hitconfirm. You did 5C (blocked) into God Hand. There's no reason to shorten your combos like that unless it's to prevent burst.

Yeah, I think it's probably easy to say that I'll often come across as being worried about trying to differentiate from what I know since sometimes I'll take a shorter combo I feel I'm more likely to hit than a longer more damaging one that I might drop, ignoring the fact that I have to you know, actually try them to not drop them. I will concede that you're right about the oki too since I sometimes will get confused by it and I feel sometimes I try to treat it like Narukami's when it's probably safe to say it's not. Though one question though, you have to normally do 2DD in the corner as opposed to 5DD when it comes to blockstrings and oki, right?

I read that when I first started with her ages ago, yeah. However, as much as I've been trying to swallow my pride on things the past year, the thought of going back and looking through that now feels a little insulting. Though, that being said, it's not like you went and tried to get me to go through one for Noel, so I thank you for that.

Sometimes you have to go back to basics, Livewire. And this isn't just for your Chie. Knowing only BnBs with Noel with random Drives/supers isn't enough.

I know I've said this before, but I feel it bears repeating. I don't know if you recall how much I utterly sucked at this game when it came out, and the best thing that happened was being disconnected from the internet and spending a month in the practice room doing nothing but the basics over and over.

Yeah, I know there's something to be said for going back to basics on some things. And I know Minato was just making a theoretical example to emphasize his point as opposed to saying I suck the big one, which he would have done if he felt that way anyway, so I get it.

To put things into perspective, I'm going to go back to basics when I get back into BB. I'm losing matches when I know I shouldn't have, especially with Rachel. And I know it's not because of just netplay either.

I need a new hobby in general. I want to relax before I do some homework, and I almost put on my PS3 before remembering that playing games makes me angry lol.

Haha, I understand your dilemma.

In particular, this game makes me a special kind of salty, and I don't like that. Not Marvel levels of salt, just really frustrated and disheartened.

I get the feeling sometimes, yeah. It's weird because I went down to play it today and I was like "well...I know I went down to but...I kinda don't feel like it". I need to sort out my "stuff to catch up on" or I'll be in an endless loop of whether to hop on my PS3 for fighters randomly, pick up Arkham City again, pick up the PS1/PS2 RPGs I want to go through, go through my unwatched DVD season sets, or watch old wrestling from the late 90s/early 2000s.

But that's just lack of organization salty. I do find that in Persona the well, Persona's themselves almost make me more salty since it sometimes feels like I'm fighting 2 characters at once Marvel style as opposed to 1 at a time.

Starting to get really frustrated with this game.

Maybe it's time to take a break, haha.
Just do what I do. Mostly play RPGs (or anything really) if it has to be games instead. After a lobby/get-together, go to training mode and learn to beat one move you lost to and maybe a combo off of a random hit confirm for a short bit. I don't play too long for consecutive days since I get worn out or frustrated. I come up with ideas on what to practice anyways when I'm not playing.

Sometimes I go the extra mile and study habits or look up frame data when it's not my turn, but that's about it. I only touch fighters generally on Fridays to Sundays at most.

Or I dunno, you could choose Chie and skip all that.

Haha, true. Chie is bull****.

That's mostly what I've been doing, actually. It works well until I feel like I have to come back to this game. I've been avoiding FGs like the plague since my last major at the beginning of March, haha. I played some BB the other day, and while my Mu has fallen into rusty shambles, I can still do Noel stuff easily enough, so that's fine, I guess.

I think part of the problem is that everyone keeps telling me to drop Labrys, and play a better character. I don't want to, because I really like her, and I've put so much time and effort into her, but so many people tell me that she's holding me back at this point. I'm trying to learn Aigis, but it's frustrating to learn a new character, just so I can have a chance at winning tournaments.

At least chie doesn't have a jesus kick
She doesn't need it, lol. Everything she has is godlike.

Yes, I'm bitter. :3

Only switch if you agree and you think you can get better at a fast rate. If you have to switch characters, it's pretty easy to go to Narukami after Labrys. Everything's the same except better, and the average sweep into 5D causes stress like combos with Red Axe. Not saying to switch, but the transition is rather easy for those two.

Also, last week I finally fought good Mitsurus and an average Chie with Labrys. I can't do it, this is horrible. lol Regardless, I'd take fighting good Mitsurus with Labrys instead of Chies. The matchups are still winnable, but I seriously have to work on learning the matchup at the moment.
