Haha, you guys are killing me. <3

What happened, Lyth?

Smooth Criminal
Well, he doesn't really like this game to start with, but he was playing with me because a) I'm trying to get better and b) he's one of the TOs, so he feels obligated to support the game. But he doesn't like any of the characters, he says it's badly balanced, etc.

Anyway, we were playing a set, and I was putting his Naoto on blast, so he switched to Shabrys (his main character), and then as soon as the match started, he was like, "I'm not playing this match, I'm done." Long story short, I think he's finished with the game, so... yeah.

That kinda sucks to hear, but I guess if he's not having fun with it, then I can totally understand. Hm...it does kind of make me wonder how the Naoto and Shabrys matchup itself is in that situation though.

And man, the facepalm I did last night after over an hour of working on Narukami's Oki only to remember that "oh wait, they're SUPPOSED TO TECH after 2B>5B>Sweep and before 5D...no wonder I was getting annoyed that Sweep>>5D wouldn't combo".

Indeed.

And we weren't playing Naoto vs. Shabrys, but I imagine that it's in Shabrys' favour.

Actually, I was moreso referring to the Naoto vs Labrys and Shabrys vs Labrys matchups. And huh...I just realized the first post still lists me as Yukiko/Chie instead of Narukami/Chie, lol. No worries.

Ah, my bad. I can't read today.

Labrys vs. Naoto isn't too difficult if you play very patiently. Labrys' j.B is very strong in this match-up, beats a lot of Naoto's moves (including her anti-air) and clears traps. I only get worried if Naoto manages to push me into a corner since her corner game is actually very strong. I generally try to stay midscreen because doing good midscreen damage with Naoto requires a lot of meter, OMB, and difficult combos that most people haven't mastered.

Labrys vs. Shabrys is a weird match-up. I'd say it's probably even, or close to it. Best bet is to break her Persona, because it shuts down a lot of her options. It's like a mirror match (watch out for j.B/2B), but she has better mixups, screen control, and oki, whereas I have better damage and pressure.

Is anyone interested in collaborating on building out an actual matchup chart? Because afaik nothing actually exists right now, which is surprising given it's only a cast of 13.

Fixed it.

Could be interesting. I doubt I would be able to add much to it though, especially because I haven't been playing at all lately, and anything I can add would be influenced by netplay. :/

I guess the main thing would be for people to give their opinions and numbers on any matchups they feel familiar with, and discuss on any we have differing thoughts on. For my part I can probably give stuff on most of Kanji's and some of Yukiko's.

Thanks, Rutger.

I gotta admit though, I'm kinda surprised there isn't a matchup chart for this game. I thought there would've been one made by...someone at all...months ago.

So, I kinda feel like I'm starting to get a bunch of stuff on Narukami's oki down and sort of starting to think of and get ideas for "oh yeah, I can see doing this off of it". Plus, doing 5D after Sweep (and 5DD in corner) kinda is coming along as more natural. There was also a bit of Anti-Air basics I started to try out (nothing complicated right now, though).

Also, after trying to figure out what it was in terms of the notation, I facepalmed upon realizing that that "AD" referred to "Air Dash". :embarrass:

Did you watch any tutorials yet

You can go to the lab to practice the basic stuff you see rather than discovering yourself (wayyyy less time consuming).

Yeah, a few posts of mine back I linked a Narukami Oki tutorial and a BNB combo video. I also came across an OMC/OMB tutorial but figured that might be best left for later. I THOUGHT I saw another one by SKD on Youtube somewhere but I haven't found it since.

This is probably a facepalm worthy question, even if it's Persona related, but...could somebody explain this Souji/Narukami bit? Moreso meaning what's with the name change since I know they're the same person even if I literally found out yesterday, lol.

Between the manga and the anime adaptation they decided that Narukami was a cooler name.

Lol, fair enough, thanks. I guess (having not played the actual PS2 game, which EVERYONE keeps telling me I should) I just always assumed the name was like a Commander Shepard thing where in P4 he was just listed by last name and the first name being whatever you put in. You would not believe how many times I'd find myself thinking "who the hell is Souji?" but just figuring he was a support character in the game and not asking. :smirk:

Hey Minato, Jourdal just put up another of SKD's Narukami combo videos, if you're interested. I don't know how practical they are, and I'm not going to pretend I could even come close to pulling them off anytime soon, but you might appreciate some of them.

Also, just a random bit/question. With Yu's oki, I tend to see a lot of people follow 5D up with either j.BB>Raging Lion, 662AA>2B, or Dashthrough>2B and stuff after. From some things I've seen, I haven't really noticed many people using sweep during the 5D forced block which I would think people would use as the overhead of Raging Lion might seem something that's expected so it would seem to make sense to assume they would block high. Just uh, thought I'd ask if you could shed some light on thing that might explain why that (at least from what I've seen) hasn't appeared to be a common continuation/follow-up, such as if it's a bad idea/why/etc. And if it is and I've just not been seeing it in the matches I've watched then apologies for wasting time.

Anybody wanna play a few later today?

You know about all those combos require 150 meter Livewire? They're not meant to be a tutorial thing, they're just meant to be really cool.

Sweep doesn't allow you to combo so Yu's go with 2A instead.

I wouldn't mind playing a few if there's a lobby up. Planning on taking this game seriously over the next few months.

Well, the fact 2 Cross Slashes AND an OMC got used in the same combo more than once KINDA was an indication. :bee:

And yeah, I can see Sweep not giving you much/anything in the way of combo options at that point. I suppose I just figured it would get them guessing more when it comes to blocking and that the knockdown from it might be beneficial. Just trying to do some thinking on stuff and expand my understanding tis all, lol.

Edit: Also yeah, I don't think I'll be in the room today/tonight. Been going through a bunch of potential online course/job apps stuff for a few hours. I might hop on P4A at some time, but it's most likely going to be offline stuff and may or may not depend on when a friend of mine decides to swing by.

SKD did make a combo that had sweep in there quite a while back but he said it was hella hard.

EDIT: Oh wait, livewire isn't joining nvm.
