I think Mike and I can go if people are going, and I thought I heard something yesterday about Bryant maybe being able to make it, but don't quote me on that.

My Gold Live account has expired. :( I had some great matches online in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe that I'll be missing. Only on occasion did I get a full glimpse of high level play and it always felt good (to get totally thrashed...). *sigh* What to do?

*Ahem!* I guess it's time to get back into Brawl in full force!

Orlando: Have you finished The Dark Knight Returns yet? (as if I have to ask...)

i can't go, but if there's some type of boozaholing going on tomorrow night give me a call... i can more than likely host if necessary... my bro passes out drunk pretty early and we're going to pub italia with family lol

randy - what picture??

harold - if you ever need 1 month free, i have 2 coupons for 1 month memberships... but don't ask for it unless you _really_ want it, 'cause it definitely needs to be saved for a good use...

also, my xbla account is "wood 4 sheep" in reference to settlers of catan... and on that note I still haven't looked up my wii code... i'll do that when i'm less family-drunk :)

merry christmas again!

OK so Harold and I were playing tonight/this morning and something interesting came up. During our back and forth arguments, Harold's arguments of change finally strung together to make sense. this is about the bans. To sum it up, banning a stage for walkoffs(or circle camping to a certain extent) doesn't make sense with our counterpicking methods. The stage gets picked first, then you're opponent is allowed to change characters, then you can change characters. Because you are aware of the next stage, you are perfectly able to switch characters in order not to get chaingrabbed or w/e it is that is fu-ukcing you up.
Now it sounds like there is a lot wrong with that argument. "I have to pick up a new character just to combat this strategy? Why not ban the stage instead?" The problem with this is that then the neutral stages have to be banned. This is because of Falco versus DK/Bowser/Random. Basically it goes like this: The Falco grabs the DK, CG->Spike. Rinse and Repeat. Next match, DK CP something other stage. Now either the Falco wins, or loses and goes back to another neutral stage. Now all of a sudden DK finds himself with a loss and an anus widened without his consent.
So now the answer is clear: ban multiple grabs. Oh shi-it, that messes up tech chasing as G&W and Snake. And how exactly do we decide how many are to be grabbed? And how to enforce this? Hmm. All of a sudden this becomes difficult to remedy. I know I know, you're thinking that the walk off chaingrabs are not like the Falco situation. However they are. If by getting grabbed, the DK is screwed, how is significantly different from DDD versus Bowser on the bridge of ElDDDin?

To be honest, I am not sure what my position is anymore >_>

Yeah, I'll try to go back to my original idea of making the thread picture somewhat relevant to the current Ottawa scene.

Percon: We love you guys! Are you guys still coming to Ottawa?

Randy: You left your headphones and controller here. If Ariel is going to Cameron's tomorrow, I'll tell him to bring them along with him.

bwahahaha, that picture is _too_ good... i love it indeed :D

remilia, I got you a present, but it's in my pocket... you have to get it yourself... i'm too busy NOT playing piano yet :(...

there's a woman selling a 3/4 upright Heinzman (not Heinzman Gerhard w00t...) in westborro... I went and played it and it was fantastic, just really out of tune lol... it didn't have a @#$^ing 'appartment' petal, which is 100% useless by the way, and instead it had a fake sostenuto (screw you auto-spell-check that IS a word) petal in that it just made the lower register sustain... all in all, it was fantastic, and then she said she's only asking for like 2500, which made me leak a little

im' pretty sure i'll have it by this time next month... but I do have to _move_ the piano lol

A belated Merry Christmas to you all! I wasn't able to get online yesterday, so I'm a bit late with the greetings. Hope to see some of you later today!

Kinky.

By the way guys, fun times when Moses/Palan/Randal were over those couple of days ago. Alan, you have fun levels but I'd recommend adding in things that prevent the rampant campathons that are possible there. That being said, Brawl sometimes feels like a new game when you're playing on totally different custom stages. :)

i'll be up to the wee hours of the AM drinking tonight, so if someone reads this and wants to give me a call, do so lol

also, I totally agree that custom levels feel like a different game... i love custom levels... i just will 100% never play one in a tourney lol

ps... I haven't played since the last bi-weekly :(... I am hoping that sometime either just before or just after new-years people will be willing to make the treck to my place... I have no mode of transportation and I am johnsing...

It's alright dude, I've had travel troubles and somehow missed the past 3 weeks so I can sorta understand that. Though....I do still get the odd bit of practice against Mike of course.

BEEENNN! Are you in town right now? I'm going to a party tonight and I'm going to have to walk home tomorrow. But like your place is on the way home, and walking to your place to play smash is better than walking home and killing myself on ice. Whaddaya say?

Ben/Harold/Other Ottawa Street Fighter Enthusiasts:

Have you guys considered buying an arcade stick for SF4? I'm basically 99% going to buy this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSasAr_Dxmk

Production was overseen by the hardcore ppl at Capcom, Tourney edition has the exact same parts as the SF4 arcade cabinets. Costs a hefty 150$ though, the only real downside for me being that you have to get either PS3 version or 360, doesn't work for both.

I'm also getting hyped for BlazBlue, the next game from the makers of Guilty Gear. It's been called Guilty Gear-Lite, the systems are much simpler, without the insane amount of practice required to be good in GG.

There was this awesome boss character, and I was really dismayed that he wasn't playable. I told myself, if he becomes playable I must play this game. Well they just unlocked a toned-down legal version of him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mfn4lrDfhM

So I am now looking forward to SF4 and BlazBlue, can't wait!

If that's a toned-down version of the boss, I'd hate to see what the regular version looks like!

He looks really strong there, but he requires 'heat guage' to link any of his moves together, which slowly charges throughout the match. You can see the gauge, little stars in the bottom left.

The other cast members in BlazBlue can do broken **** all day, he can only do it with his gauge, so if he misses he's screwed.

P.S. Disgaea 3 is too good Cam, seems like there is gonna be a huge ceiling to try to break through in terms of broken power level :D

Haven't completed story yet, just entered chapter 7.

That controller is pretty cool, but $150? Holy crap. If I got one, it would probably be more along the lines of the one that Sirlin recommends (and used to get to the top of the the leaderboards for HD Remix):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...11189&creative=373489&creativeASIN=B000V02P6Q

But I'll probably end up holding out until they make a stick that's multiplatform, or make some kind of 360<->PS3 controller adapter.

BlazBlue is looking pretty cool! It would be nice if that game catches on cause I'm the only person who likes Guilty Gear in Ottawa, apparently. =/

Chapter 7 is pretty close to the end, you will be into the post-game brokenness soon enough. If you want any help with anything there, just let me know :)

I beat LoC Baal last week (400 million HP, stats in the 40 millions) and am now out of broken bosses to fight, so my D3 motivation has gone down a bit. I may try and get some of the X-Dimension maps and pirate ships I'm missing later though.

I'm not sure if you've heard the news already, but the first D3 DLC is out now as well. There is a free patch with some extra stuff you can download, and there are extra characters you can buy on the PlayStation store (Adell and Rozalin from D2, and the Nekomata monster). In Japan they have been releasing new characters/challenges every month, for $5 each. I don't know if I will get any of it at this point, as I'm already uber-broken and don't need more characters :D If there are some interesting challenges or more bosses to beat up I may get those though.

I never got really serious, but I did play Guilty Gear on and off about a year ago (mostly base XX, but I have played a bit of Slash and Accent Core). If you bring it, I'll play you at it :)

I've heard Guilty Gear is supposed to be really good and incredibly balanced but I've never actually sat down and played it for more than maybe a 5 minute spurt once.

i watched a bunch of the SRK guys playing guilty gear and tried it out... bad intro. 'cause I got my *** handed to me, but watching their fights really gave me the impression of a completely rounded-out game, and I'd totally be down for learning it with some of you :)

ps. THE FIGHT IS ON!

The best and worst thing about GG, is the tremendous amount of depth and ceiling of technical skill.

It's pretty widely agreed within their community that to reach the upper-echelon of competitive play, it can take a solid year of practice and play.

It's the main reason why I'm looking forward to BlazBlue, they took out the ridiculous like 1 frame roman cancels, and other absurd stuff. It still has all the flavor and balance (so far) of GG, but without the crazy learning curve.

That's kind of why I liked GG so much, though. It was a game where I always felt like I had somewhere to go, something else to achieve in my playstyle.

Happy Holidays and New Years, guys.

(Also, wish I would've saw your offer, Ben. That night that you mentioned we were all in the city. I thought of calling you, by my cell is broken so I couldn't. :( **** it.)

Ben, I have to apologize for not following up! I ended up going home in the afternoon when you were out and I was going to drop a message on here, but I detoured to an after-post-party-thing instead of going home so didn't have a computer. Next time I invite myself to your place, I will keep you much more updated on where my body resides.

Harold, I'm done with Watchmen now, if you're coming by on Friday. It was a pretty interesting book...I liked it overall but there were a few things that bugged me about the end. I won't get into details here in case some other people wanted to read it after me.
