Whats a Last Elixer?!
According to forums I saw on Google, Last Elixir is the literal translation (or should I say, transration!?!) of whatever Megalixirs were in the Japanese version of FFVII, and the people who localized the game simply forgot to take care of that one, which is why it appears as Last Elixir.

Hey guys...

This might sound a little stupid, but I'm going to say it anyways.

I want to thank you guys (Jeff, Joey, Joe, Branden, Carlton, Brian, Andy)

for letting me hang out with you guys.

I feel like I can actually be myself around you without fear of punishment or fear in general.

I can talk to you without being thought less of or even scolded (Excluding Joey)

I think you guys are the only ones that I have ever told anything, even if it wasn't much to say.

Joe helpin me with the ladies, I smile and chuckle as I type this "no joke"

Joey, putting me down, so i can come right back up! I think...

Carlton just a funny dude to be around (when he's not slapping you or stealing your food)

Branden, like Carly, makes everything more humourous and is funny to be around

Andy, listens when I speak, whether it makes sense or not

Brian... What the hell did you do?

I don't know whether you guys like me or not, but I just want to say "Thank you"

:3

Soo where could you expect to find a copy of FFVII available for purchase?
I dunno, try Hastings or Bookmans (or the internet)

ORRRRR

You can emulate it or pirate the PC version.

p.s.

While you're doing that, I recommend you also try FFIX ^__^

Try IV, V, and VI...

In that order. Then do I. Don't touch II as it is garbage. Try III then if you can. PSX FFs you can try before the SNES ones.

VIII is also garbage and I can attest to it.

If you don't play X, then you will regret it.

Many people hate FF8, but like, the people that DO like it often argue that it's like, the best in the series.

You never know which way you'll swing

If you like a forced love story, stupid characters, and a broken battle system, then yes, FF8 is for you.

Played it for 10 hours. Garbage.

FFVIII has stupid button mashing the the battles. It detracts from the strategy. The story wasn't very interesting.

FFVII is overrated but still a great game nonetheless. It's one of the most memorable games you'll ever play. It also has my favorite video game soundtrack ever.

Lufia II is an awesome SNES RPG that nobody has ever played, but it's one of my favorites. It's kind of like a precursor to Golden Sun, except way more challenging with the puzzles.

First off, let me say that I too was among the people that was waiting for Final Fantasy VIII with joy. Since Final Fantasy VII was a huge hit, and pretty much made Final Fantasy and RPG's mainstream, when people heard that Final Fantasy VIII was in the works, everyone that loved VII nearly wet themselves. I too was excited about Final Fantasy VIII, hoping it would be a good game. Then, 1999 came along, and Final Fantasy VIII hit stores. It was a huge profit for the people over at Square, and it sold probably over 100 million copies.

However, just because the game had so much hype, it didn't mean that it was going to be enjoyable. But most of the time, that wasn't true. There are few games that are pure crap when they get as much hype as Final Fantasy games do. Well, it appears Final Fantasy VIII was one of those games. After Final Fantasy VII made their way into peoples' hearts, everyone wanted VIII. Too bad it didn't live up to the hype.

Now trust me on this, I'm usually not one to run across a game I don't like very much very often. Truth is, I usually like most of the games I play, whether it be an RPG, FPS, or a Simulator type of game. I usually enjoy myself, even if the game isn't as great as I thought it would be, it's still tolerable to play through for a second time. So when I first put Final Fantasy VIII into my console, I thought, okay, this doesn't seem so bad. I quickly changed my mind about that once I got into my first couple of battles, and as I progressed through the game, my stomach tightened from the crapiness of it. Most of the dialogue didn't fit in well, and the characters annoyances and personalities rather showed in almost dialogue session there was There were even a few times during the game, I wanted to put the controller down and stop playing because I couldn't understand the plot anymore.

It all starts off with the opening cinematic, which is gorgeous, and that's the only thing that saves Final Fantasy VIII. The FMVs. The graphics themselves aren't so good, and yes, I'm judging this based on the PS days. The characters faces and bodies looked deformed in one way or another. The battle environments were pretty dull, and the city backgrounds were kinda dull as well, but they were better than the battle backgrounds. As I said earlier, the FMV's is what saved the graphics department, and almost the whole game. The FMV's are absolutely beautiful. They advanced from the polygon look to almost real time stuff. Tis a shame the rest of the stuff didn't look half decent.

Now for the plot part. The game starts out with the FMV, with two of Balamb Gardens students hoping to be SeeDs, Seifer and Squall, supposedly "training" with each other, when Seifer slashes Squall's face open. The beginning had Squall and a few of his "partners", Selphie and Zell trying to become SeeDs for their garden, Balamb Garden. Get it? Seeds from a Garden! Wow! Honestly, plot itself really doesn't pick up until the Third Disc, when the theme of the game, Love, starts to kick in. Sure, there's hints of it during Disc 2, but it doesn't start to pick up until the middle of Disc 3 or so. During the time between Disc 1 and Disc 2, you're entertained with the likes of Squall being his angsty self. Quite a shame, really. Not much plot there to begin with, and to make it worse, it doesn't even start to pick up until Disc 3.

I'm now going to take this time to give my view on the characters. Final Fantasy is known for having a variety of characters with their own personalities and skills. However, this was not the case. There were 6 main playable characters (well, 7, but you only got to play her for a little bit, and I won't reveal the name for spoiler purposes.) and each of the characters sort of did have a personality... it was just overshadowded by what seemed like a disorder of some kind. What I mean by this, is that each character had their onw little problems, if I were to use a kind word. Squall is angsty, Zell has ADD, Selphie had ADHD, Quistis is Bi-Polar, Irvine talks with his hormones, and Rinoa is a spoiled brat that throws temper tantrums if things don't go her way. Sure, the characters MAY seem good, but overall, their "personalities" will drive you insane.

Now let's move on to the music portion of the game. Now I've loved Uematsu's work ever since Final Fantasy IV, and he did an excellent job in VI and VII, but I kinda thought he could've done better in VIII. Most of the themes seemed rather plain and boring to listen to. However, there were some pieces that I rather did enjoy, such as "The Oath" and "Maybe I'm A Lion". Also, Final Fantasy VIII was the first Final Fantasy game to use vocals as a theme song. This song was called "Eyes On Me", and Faye Wong lent her voice to the song. Now, I'm not going to say Faye Wong has the most beautiful voice, because she doesn't, but the song itself is beautiful, and it's sung very well. This song is also one of the ones I enjoy from the game, as it's very relaxing, soothing, and calming.

Now we move onto the gameplay section. Final Fantasy is known to have a turn based battle system. Final Fantasy VIII is really no exception to that, but they decided to try something new, so they added a Draw and Junction system in the game. What this is, is that during battles, you have to DRAW your magic out of the monsters, or you find certain Draw Points (some hidden, some visible) to draw magic from those. This is very time consuming, and it's sort of mandatory, since you need to draw magic in order to junction the magic. When you junction magic, the stat you junction it to will either increase or decrease. I found this to be extremely stupid. You first spend 30 minutes drawing 100 spells from a monster, and even then, sometimes it fails making it even more of an annoyance. Also, when you're junctioning, you also have to junction your magic to your MDef or MAtk sections to either gain resistance or elements to your weapon. In other words, in order to have good stats, you're gonna need 100 spells of a certain type to get your stats up high. I didn't like this very much.

Now let's move on to the GFs. GFs are sort of like a mix from the summons of Final Fantasy IV to the Espers of Final Fantasy VI. See, in order to get a GF (aside from the two you start with, and Ifrit), you have to draw them from certain boss fights when they come up. Whenever you get a GF, you have to junction it to a character in order to learn the abilities that the GF has. The GF's have some useful abilities, but most of them have crap abilities that you don't really need. However, some of the GF abilities are rather vital if you wish to gather every GF in the game or if you want to upgrade your weapons. A few of the GF's are also boss fights, such as Diablos. The GF's usually have duplicate abilities from another, so equipping those on another character might help that character out, but I highly doubt it. GF's are also good for summoning during long, tedious boss fights. But in order to power up your GF during the summon, you have to hold Select and mash the Square Button in order to raise how much damage it will do. Kinda stupid.

I'll give the game some credit for making it long, even though that can be bad in some cases such as this. There are a good amount of sidequests to do, and I suggest doing those in your first runthrough because I doubt you'll want to play this game through a second time. The game is about 50 hours long if you don't do everything, so it'll keep you busy for awhile.

All in all, I'm not saying this is the worst Final Fantasy game ever (that honor goes to Final Fantasy X-2) but this is one of the most disappointing games that I played. I really did have high hopes for Final Fantasy VIII, but sadly, all I got was a game that had a dull plot, crappy characters, a some-what decent soundtrack, and a crappy gameplay experience. It's just something I couldn't enjoy.

Yeah, I did. Mindgames. Get *****.

I just thought it was hilarious.

It voices my opinion completely, though.

II is actually worse, IMO. X-2 is kinda bad, but it's bearable.

It looks like Kosuke just copy pasted that from a review, Joey.
That crossed my mind, but I figured Kosuke WOULD do something like this, and it kinda sounded like him.

The thing that made me most suspicious was when it said that he was waiting anxiously for FF8. Kosuke's first RPG was FFX (or at least, his first Final Fantasy)
