Well, the next time I run a tournament (hah, I KNOW) I wanted to try something super interesting.

Changing the set structure a bit to be more like 'tennis'

The idea of a starter stage is completely squashed, non-existent!
BUT HOW!? you say - WELL~!

Each tournament set starts off with two matches, one counter pick from each player. After those first two matches, the set will continue until someone wins on their opponent's counter pick (i.e. breaking their 'serve'). For finals sets it would be breaking them twice or something. Obviously if the set starts with you breaking them and them breaking you back things continue on normally.

Now I know the 'sets could last forever' argument will be there, but I'm not sure how critically endangering to our livelihood it will be - for the majority of tournament sets, there will still only be 2 matches.

For specifics, I was thinking something like
'Each player bans two stages at the start of a set, if a set continues one stage ban per player is removed (until none remain, so after 4 matches). Dave's stupid rule obviously applying [and potentially applying to both players stage choices too (so if you lose on your counter pick you can't go there again)].
Furthermore, I think there would be merit in reducing the stocks to two and timer to 6 minutes within the same system. So maybe 4 matches in a set wouldn't be too bizarre, nor would it be that much longer.


tl;dr first match of a set is super over powered/gay, let's change the system entirely for the sake of THE UNIVERSE.
