@ Sypher, I honestly have no idea how good you or Winston or pretty much anyone else in this region is. If you can get 1-2 other people to come with you, then sure I can play from 1-2pm to 11:30 pm saturday. I do have roommates (luckily they used to be part of Team Richmond and they understand Melee fests) so all I ask is that people aren't really loud or obnoxious. Also, I don't want to sound cocky even though I'm definitely going to........But I really don't like playing with people who whine or john when they get *****. Come here expecting to either get ***** or to get the hell sandbagged out of you for being a whiner. Believe me, I can sandbag like it's my ****ing job and then it won't be fun for anyone but me. Maybe I'm just the Melee grinch or something, but that's how it is. So those are the rules. Hit me up if you want some good practice lol.

-Edit- If you're uncomfortable with the use of drugs or alcohol, don't come.
This post made me lol really hard.

Crimson I swear to God if you don't come back and **** us all I'm buying you tickets back there.
The Crimsonmobile just arrived yesterday from MD/VA, so I'm just starting to get back into smash, but I've already booked the next 5 days with smashfests/tournaments. So I'm gonna try, but who knows if I'm actually going to get good or not. I'm like the ultimate experiment...if I can get good, anyone can. If I don't then all that talent mumbo jumbo is true and most of us are just wasting our time chasing rainbows.

crimson, what do they do that we don't do
Well, for one, they hold tournaments lol. With venues. Like, every weekend. More than is advertised on smashboards too; the colleges hold their own little things. Last weekend there were 2 tournaments within 20 mins driving from me and each had around 30 players.

But more importantly I'm shocked at how many players there are. There are more players in individual precincts (see: Irvine) than there is in all of MD/VA. There are so many colleges in LA (USC, UCLA, UCI, UC-Irvine, etc) and each of them have tons of players.

I've got s2j walking distance from me ffs. This is absurd..

[in terms of things I've learned that'd help MD/VA: facebook is better than smashboards; its easier to organize events and players are on it more regularly. Colleges are the #1 place to get new players. Its the duty of every MD/VA player to advertise within their local college and make a smash club. And finally, maybe most importantly: its better to have 2 or 3 small tournaments in one weekend than 1 big one for regional events. A new player from Frederick (for example) would be reluctant to join the scene if he thought all regionals are held in Fairfax Va. If there was a smaller, but closer tournament to him, he'd join. Its not a coincidence that a lot of our new active players are centered around Fairfax (the amigos, hot$, etc). By staying in the same location every weekend, and by making everyone converge into one spot every time, we limit our pool of new players. A weekend with a College Park, Richmond, Frederick, Fairfax, Woodbridge, and Charlottesville tournament might seem excessive but I guarantee you the cumulative attendance of those events would be much more than if there was simply just one Fairfax event. Small events, run by smash clubs in colleges, and then larger regional events every few weeks to bring everyone together. Thats how you make a region stronger]

So how's the partying in those colleges? From my luck, every casual Smasher I try to recruit forgets about this game fast and wants to not be a nerd and party

There are a lot of nerds in CP. Makes sense, as CS is one of our stronger subjects.

Iunno about the party scene at each college.

But I bet if you just smashed and partied at the same time ppl wouldnt feel so nerdy. Have some music and alcohol and alongside the smash and everyones happy.

I'm probably not going to ROM4. I'd be in a bus for 4 hours, then be in a car for 6 hours. Apex is 1.5 months after that and it's only 4 hours of driving
