Lu Bu for Smash! :113:

As for Skylanders. If they were to get a character rep in this game, I highly doubt it would be Spyro. If they were to get a rep, my guess would be Kaos. Not sure about the rest of the world, but I could just imagine all of the kiddies (age my vary) begging their parents to buy them DLC, if Kaos became an option.

What about it? There's no Codename Steam content of any kind in Smash.

I'm gonna quote the below post because you seem to have overlooked it, and it did a much better job of refuting your theory than my post did:
You mentioned similar theories- Captain Toad dlc, Impa, Sceptile. People jumped on the Codename Steam bandwagon for dlc.

So most of you are saying at least 2 more characters for DLC? Even the conservative people like Burb?? Surprising. Anyone feel confident about any certain characters?

Also, let's play Sakurai Quote Madlibs: I found a Sakurai quote, and you're going to give me words to inset.
Give me:
A Verb ending with ING
Plural Noun
Name of Smashboards user

(Just make it a part of the post so we can keep the regular discussion going)
Maybe i'm just optimsitic. But i'm expecting 3-5 more.2 pre ballot(wolf and a rhythm heaven character) and 2 or 3 from the ballot(IDK) I personally think it's possible but will have to wait and see

You could include Tetra in that with the most recent Hyrule Warriors 3DS reveal.

Now, I legitimately want Captain Toad for DLC. I don't think it will happen.

1) I guess Snake was never in Smash either then. PSABR was a complete mess, and the fact that it was a mess has absolutely nothing to do with Smash. If anything the fact that fans wanted Spyro in the game so much tells you just how popular he still is. Ryu wasn't on PSABR either, and Street Fighter has had a crapton of games on Sony's hardware (as well as being the face of Capcom), they opted for not-Dante instead.
2) He has still had a presence in Japan. That could be a huge mark against him, but there's no denying that Skylanders was considered by Nintendo to be a big enough deal for them to lend their characters into the game. Nintendo are notoriously protective of their IPs. Rayman is also a far bigger deal in the west (more specifically Europe) than he is in Japan, and he is regarded as one of the most plausible and most likely 3rd Party characters. To the degree that the Omni leak had nearly the entire Smash fanbase fooled with his convincing leak.
1) You're comparing different characters owned by different companies with their own set of issues. I don't remember Ryu being requested AT ALL for PS All-Stars, and DmC Dante was picked over the classic Dante for promotional purposes. Similarly, Raiden was chosen over Snake in PS All-Stars to advertise Metal Gear Rising. On the other hand, Spyro (and Crash Bandicoot for that matter) is owned by Activision, so he had other issues preventing his inclusion.

2) If I'm not mistaken, Rayman has had a much greater presence in Japan than Spyro ever did. Some hardcore fan can correct me if I'm wrong, but the only Rayman games that weren't released in Japan were Rayman 3 and Raving Rabbids 2. Also note that his trophy in the Wii U version of Smash 4 only lists the recent Rayman Origins on 3DS and Rayman Legends on Wii U, the latter of which was published by Nintendo in Japan. On the other hand, the relatively few Spyro and Skylanders games that were localized in that region were either published by Sony (Spyro 1 & 2), Konami (Season of Ice and Orange/Fusion), or Square Enix (Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure).

I was under the impression people were meh about Codename Steam.

Then again the Inkling/Splatoon hype must've overshadowed it.

All of those bar Earthbound were actually on my list, actually. So far I'm considering

Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island
A Link To The Past
Kirby's Dreamland 3/KSS
Super Metroid
Street Fighter II Turbo
Donkey Kong Country
Mario Paint (Is this good? i really wanna support mario ballet)

Isn't Country 2 better than 1 though? And I'm torn between KD3 and KSS because KD3 is longer, and I haven't played it while KSS gets higher ratings.
E.V.O. Search For Eden is one of my favorite games ever. SNES Jurassic Park is pretty good too, one of the first games to do 3D on a home console.
DKC 2 being better than DKC 1 is a matter of opinion. I myself prefer DKC 1 because of the neat environments, but, then again, it was the first video game I ever played, so maybe I'm a tad biased. DKC 2 is amazing too, though.

Personally, I'd rather have a lot of stage DLC than a lot of character DLC. By a lot I mean 10 or so stages but that's a pipe dream...

Does that mean you're more receptive of it now? I think this game was my favorite shown during Nintendo.
I know it is confusing, but short answer, yes, I am extremely hype for it, but long answer is a bit more complicated....

It doesn't change the disappointment of not getting a paper mario game BUT it honestly doesn't matter much now. See, this game helped so much the series by giving it so much love that in the end, the chance of actually getting a paper mario game is even more likely. The playlist really shows a lot and it;s quite clear that it;s not "another sticker star", the only parts about SS in the game were actually good, but other stuff are from TTYD, pm64 and spm (it;s really details like the poses he does after multiple jump).

Don;t get me wrong, I still don;t like M&L much, but here;s the thing, I bought dream team recently and so far, it;s good on its own, but not enough to really love the game. Paper Jam for me is exactly the same, but you add stuff that actually makes the game awesome enough to be worth it. I paid DT because it was a discount, I don;t think I would've paid 40, but paper jam, with how much it makes M&L lovable for me would clearly worth the price, it depends on how far they will go with paper mario stuff.

And lastly, paper mario, and his world are officially separate entity. That was completely unexpected, but it helps him a lot for ssb4 support and it again has to do with series love.

I already wrote a lot in the support thread about the game if you want to know more :)

You're acting no different than all the people who said "Hyrule Warriors = Impa in Smash!", "Pokemon ORAS = Sceptile in Smash!", "Platinum Games announcement = Wonder Red in Smash!", and all the other similar theories that've popped up.
The ironic part is, most of our DLC characters arent from most recent games of the past year to promote....
(Mewtwo had X and Y but we got OR/AS more recently after that which he had very little to nothing to do with. And Ryu seems to be promoting Super Street Fighter 4 3D edition which came a while ago)

DKC2 is better if you want a "challenging" experience. For me personally, I think DKC3 is the most boring one of all three DKC games.

Does anyone know anything about what external harddrives are compatible with the Wii U? I'm running short on dat memory and don't want to have to delete anything. -_-

This is amazing.
That's pretty awesome. Still so surreal to me everytime I select him to play him that he's actually in Smash.

Obviously it comes down to personal taste, but as somebody who has played both DKC and DKC2 multiple times, I enjoy DKC2 more. I like the environments better, I like the music significantly more, and Dixie in and of herself gives the gameplay a fun twist, whereas in DKC your two playable characters (DK and Diddy) are relatively similar. Still, if you can get both in a price range that's reasonable, I'd recommend both, as they're both fantastic. I unfortunately can't speak to the Kirby titles you're debating as I've played neither, though I know I've always heard great things about Super Star and have admittedly heard little to nothing about KD3.

Otherwise all of my SNES favs are already on your list. Definitely putting emphasis on Super Metroid and A Link to the Past, though, as those are two of my favorite games in general, not to mention close to my #1 favorites in their respective series (which are two of my favorite series).

That is really good. Almost makes wish Stamina mode had this option.
I love one of the comments.
"Now just rename this video to "Metroid Prime" and that dislike bar with be bigger than mutha****a." XD
Honestly, I think this is what stamina mode should have been in the first place. I like HP bars.

I see DKC2 being mentioned, so I'm just gonna throw this out there.

It is a masterpiece and if I taught a course on Game Design it'd be one the chief examples I'd use. It isn't just "fun", like DKC1 and DKC3 is. It is meticulously designed. There are no leap of faith jumps, which are littered throughout the other two titles. Most levels are designed to be ran through at full speed in ways Mario or other great platformers aren't. In Mario, you might need to jump on a flying enemy to make it over a gap, but you'll have to stop and wait for the enemy to reach the proper height for you bounce off them. In DKC2, if you just book it through the stage at full run speed, that flying enemy you need to bounce on will be in the exact position needed to make the jump. Watch a speedrun, it is magic. And yet the game never feels easy, because it also wants you to stop and explore everything.

In DKC1, there are many secret areas found in pits that give you no indication they are safe to fall in; there's little rhyme or reason to the secrets in DKC1, so the only way you could ever find them all without a guide is by jumping into every single pit in the game. Compare this to DKC2, which always puts its secrets in "plain sight." But that doesn't make them easy to find. No, the game revels in hiding a giant sparkling gold coin twice as large as your character in areas you feel stupid for missing. DKC as a series obviously owes a lot to the Mario platformers, but the huge, sparkling coins found in the NSMB series are a clear example of the inspiration flowing the opposite direction. Making your secret collectible in every level absolutely gigantic was a master stroke. When the player misses it, they feel compelled to go back in and find it, because how can something so big and shiny be so easy to overlook?

Then there are the level themes. There's an amount of creativity here missing from most other "great" platformers. Even Mario Bros will tick off all the cliches: a desert, a forest, a snowy plain. DKC2, instead, sticks you in a swamp with a half sunken pirate ship, a giant honey-filled wasp nest, a rusty, rickety amusement park and, of course, a floating bramble cluster in the sky. Even the 'cliche' areas, such as the dangerous lava filled volcano land, are turned on their head. What is usually reserved for World 8 becomes World 2! Lava is the least of the Kongs' problems. I can't even begin to tell you how disappointed I was when Donkey Kong Country Returns made the volcano land the last world, like every other platformer.

Oooh, what a helpful site! ♥
I decided to ditch KD3 for KSS and I added Super Mario Kart. I'm still getting Dreamland 3, but KSS is higher priority. 4real though, ♥ you all. Srs. So many fast responses. I feel like I'm at my own beauty pageant now!

Anyways, on-topic, this marks the 2nd time someone depleted amiibo stock. We should place our bets on if something happens to the AC ones or not.

im going to make a baseless theory for dlc

were going to have a total of 12 characters and 9 stages
the reason thats the amount of characters and stages we had for smash 64

like i said completely baseless but its what im sticking to as my dream amount
Not likely but that would actually pretty cool.
You could have the DLC characters be analogous (to an extent) to the characters from Smash 64.

vs.

dlk.png

This would be a pretty perfect DLC roster all things considered. Even as an optimist I highly doubt we're getting this many though.

I don't think any of them are promoting anything.

Ryu is a popular character and Street Fighter is a popular series. I don't think he's there to advertise any specific Street Fighter game. They just knew he'd sell.

The same goes for the others. Lucas and Roy were both cut veterans who a lot of people wanted back (moreso Lucas: Roy over Wolf was a bit questionable since I'm pretty sure Wolf was in higher demand than Roy, but judging from the New Challengers Approaching stream, it seemed like with the last batch, they were going for a Brawl vet and a Melee vet). Mewtwo was the most requested character overall, pre-release.

I agree.

I personally think it's probably for the best that the Wolf supporters should continue pushing for his inclusion over at the ballot in case he doesn't end up being a "pre-ballot character"....

Tropical Freeze is a great game, but it's built for an entirely different playstyle than the original Country games. It is far, far more reliant on twitch difficulty, throwing obstacles at you with little time for you to respond to them. The games are "difficult" not because of tricky platforming or strong enemies, but because the levels give you so little time to react to things that you're basically supposed to play them over and over again, dying, living, then dying again, until you can beat the level through sheer route memorization of what's coming at you.

Those types of games have their place, but that's not what the original Donkey Kong Country games were about. If the new ones were just called "Donkey Kong Returns", as opposed to "Donkey Kong Country Returns", I wouldn't be as annoyed, because they are good, but the new ones are really as different from the old ones as Yoshi's Island is from Super Mario World.

I also thought that Sakurai did express concern over DLC appearing like cut content, and it could seem more like so if the two vets in the big pack were from Brawl, the previous game. Roy obviously was not planned for returning since he wasn't in Brawl, plus they even redesigned and decloned him.

There where unused files of him though which indicates that he most likely was planned to return for Brawl but didn't make it for one reason or another. (Most likely time constraints)

I think Ryu is mostly to promote Street Fighter V but his moveset is from across all of the other 4 (5 including Alpha)
