If NX is pitched as a console/handheld hybrid and that Nintendo will continue to focus on making games for all three systems, being 3DS, Wii U and NX, i'd feel MUCH better about it. And if they phase out both the 3DS and Wii U down the road and just have this super console, then sure, fine, i get it- console gaming in Japan is dead and it's mobile city, and in the States it's all about consoles still. It's a good way to get both countries on board.
I would honestly be happy to see the Wii U last until 2018. 3DS, who knows considering they're still pumping out games left and right, i'd like to see at least 2017. And if NX replaces the Wii U, it better be backwards compatible and have a good virtual console line-up right away.
The last time they said "third pillar", we got the DS, which replaced the GBA about a year and a half afterwards. If NX replaces the Wii U after a year and a half after it comes out, then i guess that'd lessen the blow, but meh. I'm still salty that the big N's jumping ship early.
