Don't bother getting the Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter, get the Mayflash Adapter instead.

From what I hear its because of things like reused assets and things like the online and character roster being barebones compared to other Mario spin offs.

Don't forget the oriignal N64 version. Excellent game, even if it has less content at that time. Still, it felt pretty top notch overall. Flawed(but all of them are), of course.

From what I've heard:
- No Tournament mode.
- All courts are just literal skins, no gimmicks, etc..
- No CGI scenes. They were the best part of Power Tennis, in my opinion. The outtakes are just priceless.
- "Small" roster. (Nintendo seems to like to cut characters, no Koopa Troopa/Shy Guy/etc. [at least Boo is back]).
- No mini games. (I think?)
- No special/super attacks. (it's called "Ultra Smash"... how ironic...)
- Very basic/blunt online mode.
- I'm not sure about this one, but I've heard you can't even turn off the Mega Mushrooms.
At this point, it looks like it's Wii Sports Tennis with Mega Mushrooms and Mario characters.

I'm not saying it's bad, the things that are in it are probably great, but it's just not a lot.

I think this varies from person to person. Maybe for you past games become void once the next game is out, but I still find it valuable and fun to revisit previous titles. Even ignoring mechanical differences, Brawl, Melee, and Smash 4 all offer some very different single-player experiences. (64 as well to a degree, although the only real difference is that Classic is really static and you have Board the Platforms.)

I personally do a lot of single-player Smash, and though I haven't gone back to past Smash games much since 4 came out (mostly out of laziness and being distracted enough with other games that I'm not playing an excessive amount of single-player Smash period), 4 is probably my least favorite single-player experience. Most of it feels either very redundant or like artificial difficulty to me.

"Know" might be a little too strong of a word. That's what Nintendo has indicated, but we can't ignore what happened with the DS or even the fact that we don't know enough about the NX yet to even know that Nintendo couldn't end up changing their minds.

Yeah it's pretty much a third pillar for now. If they somehow succeed with the NX console it may replace Wii U.
NX handheld will eventually replace 3DS so eh, it's aging anyway. The hybrid idea is kinda messed up imo so I don't really agree with it.

Okay, I'm sorry, I have correct myself, there is a "Classic Tennis" mode and a mode called "Knockout Challenge" that is somehow like the tournament mode and has to do something with amiibo(?), I have no idea what that's about.
And this multiplayer mode where you have to knock the ball back and forth as long as possible looks fun.
