People saying the Wii U is a failure and that Nintendo has been receiving serious net losses obviously don't know that the Wii U (despite struggling) still turned up a profit. They just aren't expecting nearly as much sales now for 2014. System still isn't a failure, but still needs some heavy lifting if they want to make a profit this year. Smash, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong, and Bayonetta may not be enough. Here's hoping for some surprise holiday titles to show up like Pokémon X / Y, 3D World, and Link Between Worlds for the Wii U during this year in future Nintendo Directs (and hopefully this one if it does end up existing).
Anyone who thinks that the Wii U is failing should really look at the Sega Dreamcast's history. Now THAT console was a real failure.

And with that, back to the main topic.

I haven't seen this, all I've heard was that they're expecting an operating loss for the fiscal year (up to March 2014)

Even if the Renegade Kid guy was wrong about it being a Nintendo Direct, won't there still be one anyway? Maybe not this Friday, but there's still a Direct every month after all.

Not every month. There might be one near the end of this month, or at least early February, though.

I'm getting the feeling that Nontendo wanted the last direct to be the big one to kick off the year and we won't get one this month :(

Nintendo is reporting billions in loss. It is a failure. But Nintendo has a potential plan. They can offer Nintendo games as downloads on phones, pads, touchscreens, ect. Because Nintendo owns its products, it doesn't have to pay a licensing fee (which Sony and Microsoft would have to do for many games), so mostly profit.
Correction: Billions in yen, but millions in dollars. The operating loss isn't as worse as the previous fiscal years. In fact, they're still making a profit off their systems, but both the Wii U and 3DS underperformed for Nintendo this year.

There's also Hyrule Warriors and Monolith Soft's new untitled Xeno game to fill the gaps.

TWO TRIBES TEASES ‘SOMETHING PRETTY NICE’ FOR WII U OWNERS THIS WEEK
JANUARY 27, 2014 ALBA 1 COMMENT
Two Tribes has apparently teased an unknown title that’s in development for Wii U. Based on a tweet from the studio, several indie developers – including KnapNok Games, Gaijin Games, Black Forest Games and WayForward – are collaborating on a project for Nintendo’s console. It’s unclear whether the studio was teasing an imminent announcement or an actual game launch, but the mysterious project will be revealed this week.

This week @KnapNokGames, @GaijinGames,@BlackForestTeam, @WayForward and @TwoTribesGameshave something pretty nice coming for Wii U owners!

Will not be Smash related. Don't get your hopes ups.

Update: Turns out the tease was for this Wii U eShop sale.

At this point I'll take any Nintendo Direct at all this month. Even if it's just Iwata reading the newspaper for 40 minutes I'll still be happy.

Well, there could be a Direct on Thursday which includes those games which are going to be on sale, to let people know about the whole thing. Sort of a similar thing happened with NES Remix last time (showcased in Direct and released right after it). But, we'll see.

NINTENDO TO UNVEIL ITS APPROACH TO MOBILE DEVELOPMENT ON THURSDAY?
Respected Japanese news publication The Nikkei says that Nintendo is set to announce its mobile plans on Thursday. The company is apparently expected to go mobile within this year. It won’t be offering traditional mobile games, but instead will use mobile platforms such as iOS and Android to market its games and bring mini games and playable demos of console games that can only be purchased in full on Nintendo hardware. The content will be free-to-play.

Hopefully that means there is a direct on Thursday. It would be the perfect way to unveil their plans.
and did you know that Ice Climber released on that same day January 30, 1985 so maybe that means we'll get Ice Climbers

Wow, Nintendo is finally opening itself to new devices in one form or the other.
Actually, it seems like Nintendo it's recreating the Japanese history by itself in that, both the country and the company, were originaly isolated from their counterparts but sooner or later they had to open themselves.

You know what would be cool on a mobile device? Virtual Console games.

Fnabois: "OMFG, WiiU sell so bad!!11!!1111! Nintendo dying! Should sell themselves to M$ and Sony!1!1!!1"

*WiiU outsells PS4 and XBONE during christmas period*

It's just a part of the internet, a console gets a slow start and every 8 year old fanboy thinks that the company is dying and going to ****. It happened with the PS3 release and look how well it's doing now, and the same is happening to the WiiU. Nothing new... Nintendo will be fine.

Only roughly 85 Minutes remain until the moment they might announce a direct for tomorrow.
