Lots of Important Updates!!!

Less than a week before the big day. We've got a LOT to talk about, so here goes.

Here's the status of things right now: Kim and I have gotten six T.V.'s together ourselves for the tourney that we're bringing the morning of. We have only one gamecube. Of course, we have more people signed up to bring cubes than we do T.V.'s. So don't worry, if you bring a cube, unless EVERYONE brings theirs, it'll probably be used. Our goal is to have at least 14 T.V.'s for the tournament, 10 for the tourney itself, and 4 for friendlies. Again please, if you volunteered to, or if you didn't but you can, please bring a T.V. or a cube. It'll really really help everyone, and it'll make this tournament a lot better. The quality of the tournament will be highly related to how many people step up and bring cubes and T.V.'s. We've done our best on our end (it was hard to pull 6 T.V.'s ourselves). And again, if you bring a T.V., you get an extra raffle ticket. And of course, thanks a whole lot in advance. We really appreciate that so many of you would inconvenience yourselves with hauling a T.V. out here. We know it's a lot of extra work, but it's becuase of you guys that these tournaments can happen in the first place. Thanks. :)

Next, we wanted to talk to you guys about the low-tier situation with Luigi and Link. We know all about the debate about whether they belong in a low-tier tourney in the first place, and although on the list they technically are low-tier, lots of people strongly disagree. So like our last tournament, we're putting it out to you guys. Do they belong in low-tier, or should they be taken out? Over the next couple of days we're going to see what you all think, and we'll decide whether to take them out or not. Of course, we'll have the final say, but it'll probably be on the lines of what most people in the community think.

About recording matches. We're going to bring a VCR and Dr. Doom has a VCR-DVD recorder.
What the issue is is that we need a copy of the matches that are recorded, because we're going to someday (hopefully sooner rather than later) make a DVD with compilations of all our tournaments. We dont' wanna take your tapes, so what we'll do is this: Doom's recorder can rip fron VCR to DVD. So, throughout the tourney as tapes get taken up, we're going to try to rip as much as we can to the DVD. After that, we'd like to ask permission from people who are recording to borrow the tapes so that we can finish ripping them to CD's. After we do it, we'll either mail the tape back to you or give it to you at our next tourney.

So far, we have 71 people signed up, and that's not including any of the pros that we know are coming, so we may have upwards of 80-100 people show up. If we get that many, we're going to be running pools for the Singles.

We know how people from Smash like to show up L-A-T-E for tournaments, but please, this time try to show up early. We're going to have to process a LOT of people, and also you get to get your friendlies and warm up matches in before the tourney starts.

Also about friendlies, since we're devoting T.V.'s to go purely to friendlies (more T.V's will go to it if more people bring them), we ask that you not play friendlies on the tournament T.V's. It really slows down the tournament a lot, and of course we'll be doing our best to make sure that the tourney runs as fast as possible. Half of our thread has been money match talk, so if you want to do your money matches, do them on the friendly T.V.'s. And also, if you're playing on a friendly T.V, please be polite and after your match let others play on them too. If we see the same two people playing on a T.V. for like half an hour and other people want to play, we're kicking you off. Give everyone a chance to play, it's just the right thing to do.

Also Thomas, about your request. If you guys wanna do a crew battle at the end of the tournament, we're fine with that. But, if you wanna do it, you or the people from the crews are going to have to organize it. Things are going to be hectic enough as it is with us trying to organize everything else. For the crew battle, we'll only take off 10% of the fees, and they'll be $5 per person to go into crews. If you wanna do it Thomas, and you can get everyone else to do it too, we'll do crews at the end of the tournament.

So just a quick recap. Please bring T.V.'s, Please bring cubes, come on time, Link and Luigi may not be low, VCR's are A-OK,, be friendly about friendlies, pools are cool, and crews are good to go. Good luck everyone, this tournament's gonna be too good!

I was looking forward to getting one of those medals for the low tier tourney. I say keep Luigi and Link there.

If I have enough money for money matches, I think I’m going to try something new out. I never do money matches because I hate the idea of losing money, especially went I don’t have much to gamble, but I’ll be doing a glove match.

You see these suckers; well I’ll be playing with them on.

Top 25, peeps can’t challenge me because they’ll take me out in a few seconds. There are other people not on the list who could demolish me as well, so I’ll see how it goes at the tourney.

Luigi and Link for low tier! Bring it on!

I can't stand fighting Luigi, but I'll do it =) How much?

I say take Link / Luigi out for low tier.

If people live up to their word re: tvs and cubes, this will be too good

Its not that Link is broken, its whether or not he should be considered low tier or not.

I also think that Luigi and Link are too good for Low Tier, but if they were taken out, I wouldn't stand a chance without Luigi. So I say, keep them in. :)

I think Link isn't too unfair for low tier. Luigi is, but I say keep him in any ways. It's kinda too late of notice to take him out. I know for sure a friend of mine has been practicing Luigi lately just for this, so taking him out a week before would kind of suck.

there is no such thing as low tier. the only characters that actually suck are kirby and bowser. everyone else has something to work with. so i would say that should be no low tier tournament at all. but i wanna win it so you guys can believe in you r tier list crap.

If AOB lived in socal and ***** everyone with his donkey kong. people would probly want to ban dk from low tier because he is too good for it.

if germ was down here people would no doubt get rid of link.

in washington they get rid of luigi because ka master is one of their best players period...and he just so happens to play luigi so its not fair.

if taj was in socal people would say his mewtwo shouldnt be allowed.

low tier tournaments should be renamed......

"characters that nobody takes the time to get good with tournament"
or
"friendlies for money"

***edit***
lets to a kirby and bowser only tournament. maybe throw pichu in there too cause he sucks pretty bad :p

will low tier be taking place before doubles?
what is the line up exactly
id really like if doubles went before low tier and singles =)
also, any kind of crew battles going on?
why not have a regional one like the first pandatration intended
with people repping their county
i think that way palmdale will lose to LA ;)
wow this post sounds kinda gay, so bear with me

edit: if this is going to have such a large turnout, has the possibility's of pools been brought up yet?

and i just saw my tia thing and it says jay and kira are my rivals, my ****** haha too bad i can't enter singles sat =(

Can anyone pick me (and maybe a friend up) on the way to this tourny? I live in El Monte, but I can drive to a nearby location if I have to (Covina, Azusa, Pomona, Etc.) Come on, more money for the pot :)

Here's the thing on low-tier though: We had a low-tier tournament and the turn-out was bad. Why? Because there was no Marth, Fox, Shiek, Peach, and Falco in it. Too many people only care about winning, whether it's for money or to be power ranked or just pride. What we had at the low-tier tournament was the FEW people who just wanted to have fun. Those people were willing to pay for low-tier and if you include Link and Luigi, you're going to get mostly those people who just want to win abusing those 2 characters while the rest of us, the ones who actually care about low-tier, get shut-down like they always do. You said one of your main focuses was for this tournament to be fun right? I think adding Link and Luigi is appealing more towards the people who want to win and appealing less towards the people who want to have fun. That's just my opinion though.

Of course, last time everyone was debating before-hand on whether they should be allowed or not. So I decided that talk was cheap and the only way to know for sure was to allow them and see what happens. So what I can tell you from experience was that they don't belong in there. I saw it first-hand.

But hey, I play Zelda and neither of them are a problem for me. But I just think of the people who want to use Game & Watch, Bowser, Kirby, Mewtwo, Pikachu, and Ness and what they would have to go through if Link and Luigi were abused just like Fox, Falco, Sheik, Marth, and Peach.

Or you can look at it this way. Let's say aomeone LOVES Mewtwo, and let's say they have to fight a Luigi. That match ends, Luigi kicks their butt, so they switch to Link because Mewtwo gets ***** by Luigi. Now they're just counter-picking and playing to win rather than having fun representing Mewtwo.

But anyway, that's just my opinion. I don't want to continue an argument over it so I'm just going to stop here. You know what I think, so I'll just leave it at that. Sorry for anyone who disagrees.

Crew Battle

Okay, now that I'm done crying about low-tier, I'll see what I can do to help you set up a regional crew battle. If we want to divide it by regions, here are some possibilies:

Counties:

Santa Barbara
Ventura
Orange
Los Angeles
San Bernardino
Riverside
San Diego
Imperial (Who the **** lives here?)

Or you can divide and split counties into specific regions like this:

San Bernardino + Riverside = Inland Empire
North-West Los Angeles = San Fernando Valley
Western Los Angeles = South Bay
Eastern Los Angeles = San Gabriel Valley
Palmdale + Lancaster = Antelope Valley
Victorville + Hesperia = High Desert
Beaumont to Indio = Low Desert
Santa Barbara + Ventura = The Coast

Oh by the way, this is all SoCal. I'm not too familiar with NorCal and only semi-familiar with Central Cali and AZ.
