Even if overwatch 2 wasn't such a massive flub I'm still so burnt out on moba-like hero shooters that I don't think I'd enjoy overwatch being in smash at all. Especially not if it's Tracer. Like she makes infinite sense as the face of the game... But could you imagine her moveset in 1v1 play? She'd make other "lame" characters look like saints in comparison.
Overwatch looked like it would have been a ton of fun if I was into online competitive games but I always found them too stressful to be worth it. I’d have loved it if it had a co-op campaign mode. I’m not too big on Tracer but someone like Ramattra or Reaper could be really cool as I love their designs. That said, I’d much prefer WarCraft, StarCraft, or Diablo over Overwatch in Smash. Not only do they all have much longer legacies but I have a stronger personal connection to them than I do for OverWatch. I played a lot of WarCraft 3 and StarCraft in high school and I played through Diablo 3 on Switch a few years ago with my brother and friend and we all had a blast. I also played Hearthstone for a while and enjoyed it. The hardcore competitiveness of it turned me off after a few months but I still really enjoyed the single player Dungeon Run mode.
Mine is Jinx from League of Legends. The game was already one of the most played games in the world but Arcane exploded its audience well past anyone who’s ever played the game. Arcane became the third most award winning show of all after the Simpsons and Mickey Mouse after only two seasons and 28 episodes. While the second season wasn’t as universally loved as the first, the show still connected with a ton of people in a way that most other media hasn’t been able to. I think she’d be the perfect character for the Joker spot as the first big surprising DLC character. Both Joker and Jinx were pretty big in general pop culture but their weaker Nintendo ties caused a lot of people to dismiss them.
Something else I don’t think I’ve ever brought up that might help Jinx’s chances is that Nintendo has already collaborated directly with another of Tencent’s subsidiaries in Pokemon Unite. While it wasn’t with Riot specifically, it might help make negotiations easier since they’ve already collaborated with Tencent. The fact that both Jinx and Vi are in Fortnite as well as Arcane getting a Magic: the Gathering product show that they’re open to collaboration with Jinx and other LoL characters.
A modern Kirby stage? It’s more likely than you think. I’m not going to pretend this is a particularly inspired choice; Forgotten Land is the newest and best selling game in the series, and Aliveil Mall was fairly prominent in advertising. I’ve seen other people independently come to the same stage choice in this thread. Gimmick wise, I’m imagining Gorimando and a waddle dee cage as a pseudo-boss, like the Find Mii stage. Maybe they could also find a way to incorporate Mouthful Modes if they aren’t added to Kirby’s moveset?
Butter Building (Kirby’s Adventure)
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it learn new tricks (that’s an iconic phrase). With my decision to add stages from older games, I don’t think adding one Kirby stage from a Sakurai title is too abhorrent, and Adventure is the Sakurai game that’s gone the longest without a new stage. I’m not going to lie, I was also inspired by Butter Building in Smash Flash 2 and Tower of Heaven in Smash Land/Rivals of Aether. My idea for the gimmick is that the stage would occasionally rotate, adding and removing platforms while doing so (like an expanded version of Spiral Mountain).
Royal Road (Kirby Triple Deluxe)
This is a pure bias pick, and I’m not going to argue otherwise. If you want a more “objective” third Kirby stage, Another Dimension from Return To Dream Land fits the bill. I’ve always liked the aesthetics of this area, though, and it was one of my favorite stage concepts I made for Ultimate speculation. It’s gimmick would essentially be “Jungle Hijinxs 2”, with it having two fighting arenas; the foreground, and the pink diamond that appears in the second phase of the Sectonia fight in TD. I’m imagining Sectonia or Taranza would also appear to cause disruptions.
Green Greens (Kirby’s Dream Land, returning from Melee)
It’s Green Greens lol I don’t really have much to say here
The Halberd (Kirby Super Star, returning from Brawl)
None of the other stages really fit Meta Knight, Halberd gets to come back.
Star Fox
Fortuna (Star Fox 64)
As a very dead series, there’s a lot of wiggle room for Star Fox. For the first stage (yes, even Star Fox gets two new stages), I wanted a location from Star Fox 64, but the two obvious choices have already been done. I went with Fortuna, because I thought it had the most interesting aesthetics (I also considered MacBeth because it looks cool and has a funny name). I think it would play a lot like Lylat Cruise, perhaps with more involved hazards.
Dragon Rock (Star Fox Adventure)
For the second Star Fox stage, I wanted to go with something from Adventure - it’s never had a stage before, and it’s a really interesting part of Nintendo history. Dragon Rock is another fairly arbitrary choice based primarily on aesthetics. I think it’s the penultimate area? I haven’t played Adventures, and the SF wiki is a mess. Uniquely for a Star Fox stage, this wouldn’t be on a ship - you would fight on solid ground. The menacing tower in the background could spew hazards.
Corneria (Star Fox 64, returning from Melee)
There’s been a Great Fox stage in every smash i’m not sure if im allowed to cut this
Every game since Melee has had a basic two-platform Pokemon Stadium-esque stage, a pattern I see no reason to break. I could have done a generic “Pokemon Stadium 3”, but considering the importance of gyms to Gen 8, doing a more themed version seemed fitting (and it’s not unprecedented, seeing as Kalos League is basically PS3 already). It would look more or less like the mod pictured above, maybe a little bigger because it looks really small. Like the other versions of the stage, there would be four transformations; Fairy, Fighting, Poison, and Psychic, representing the legendaries of Galar (Zacian, Zamazenta/Urshifu, Eternatus, and Calyrex).
Mesagoza (Pokemon Scarlet and Violet)
Mesagosa is an important location in S/V, it being a stage is hardly a bold choice. It would be a stage in the same vein as Saffron City and Fourside, where you fight on the roofs of buildings. I’m not sure if it would have much in the way of hazards; at most, it would be fairly unobtrusive like on Saffron.
Area Zero Underdepths (Pokemon Scarlet and Violet)
I’m gonna be honest, something in my gut is telling me they won’t add Area Zero in the actual Smash 6. No real evidence, just vibes and Sakurai’s tendency to go for early game stages. I want to be wrong, of course, so I added it in addition to Mesagosa. Designing it is also a bit of a concern, because we could very easily have another Great Cave Offensive. I’m instead imagining it akin to Garreg Mach, with stage transitions where you gradually go deeper and deeper into the caverns.
Safari Zone (HeartGold and SoulSilver)
Because I burnt two stages on Paldea, I contemplated not going for a “throwback stage” at all, but I figured if any series was to get too many stages, Pokemon would hardly be the worst offender (besides, plausibility already went out the window on this). The safari zone is an iconic location in the first half of the series I’m surprised they haven’t done yet, and it’s depiction in Smash would be an amalgam of all the different versions of the area from previous games (as well as similar locations like the Great Marsh and the Indigo Disk). The reason it’s mentioned as being from specifically HGSS is because it would incorporate the modularity of that version of the zone; instead of a floating platform taking you between different locations, the stage itself would morph (maybe even having multiple biomes at once?)
Spear Pillar (Diamond and Pearl, returning from Brawl)
With two Sinnoh games releasing since Ultimate, Spear Pillar’s return is obvious. Those games reminded me how weird Smash’s version of Spear Pillar looks - it barely looks like the version in the games. It has the same layout and hazards, but would be made to look more like it does in BDSP and Arceus.
Prism Tower (X and Y, returning from Smash 4)
Similarly, Z-A forces my hand. I would bet my life savings this stage will be in the next Smash game.
Earthbound
Saturn Valley (Mother 3)
I went for Saturn Valley because it’s one of the few recurring areas in the series. I’m not going to pretend this is a particularly bold choice, I remember rumors they would add this stage to Ultimate, but Earthbound is the first series that I couldn’t justify giving two new stages so I had to be a bit more careful here. This would take a bit more from the Mother 3 version of Saturn Valley, mostly because Earthbound has had two fairly well received stages in previous Smash games while Mother 3 has the generally reviled New Pork City. I’m not sure what the gimmick would be here, but it would be a wacky one.
Onett (Earthbound, returning from Melee)
Onett is an iconic stage, I don’t think I have to justify bringing it back. I strongly considered bringing back Magicant instead, but a few things dissuaded me. Having Mother 1 Magicant and Mother 3 SV would mean Earthbound, the most popular game in the series, wouldn’t have a stage and that felt wrong. It would also be a bit weird to not have an urban EB stage, that feels like a fairly core part of the series in Smash.
F-Zero
Aeropolis (F-Zero GX)
Similarly, only one new F-Zero stage. Aeropolis is a mostly arbitrary choice: I wanted a location original to GX, and Aeropolis looked most interesting so I chose it. I’m imagining it as a sequel to Big Blue, that feels more interesting than another floating platform stage.
Mute City (F-Zero, returning from Smash 4)
Another reason I made Aeropolis similar to Big Blue was as an excuse to not bring back Big Blue lol. I like the stage, but I don’t want all the returning stages to come from Melee. Mute City is the most iconic F-Zero location, and F-Zero 99 helps justify adding a sprite-based F-Zero stage.

For a new Earthbound stage I would personally like the Devil’s Machine from the end of the game.
Something like how it looks in Super smash bros Crusade would be pretty cool looking as shown in the video.
4:20 to 5:30 shows the stage.
I would also include Giygas affecting players with random status effects from time to time when hazards are on to make stage even more unique and fitting to his boss battle on top of the unique platform set up the stage has.
I haven’t played Overwatch but for anyone who has, does her rewind function similarly to Ekko’s or Prince of Persia’s? I always thought that was a pretty cool ability but I imagine it would likely just take a form of a counter in Smash like the did for Shulk’s vision.

Pokemon tends to be the exception when it comes to the early game rule. Saffron City is the middle of the game and Silph Co. in particular is more mid-late when you actually get in there. Spear Pillar is late-game and basically the climax of the story, same with N's Castle, and Kalos is the Endgame. Prism Tower is the only area that's early.
When it comes to the franchise, the priority seems to be more what's iconic. People remember Silph Co. for the Team Rocket takeover, N's Castle is by far the most iconic location in BW, and even Prism Tower is one of the most iconic areas of XY. Area Zero is the most iconic area in SV so they can easily go with it considering past precedence, the only reason they could go with Mesagoza is that it's still a notable area in the game, not because it's early.
I haven’t played Overwatch but for anyone who has, does her rewind function similarly to Ekko’s or Prince of Persia’s? I always thought that was a pretty cool ability but I imagine it would likely just take a form of a counter in Smash like the did for Shulk’s vision.
It's more of a "Restart". Basically, Rewind makes Tracer disappear and then makes Tracer reappear back in the spot where she was 4 or 8 seconds ago and it restarts her Ammo and Health as it was 4 or 8 seconds ago(which means she won't always be fully healed or fully reloaded). Which means depending on how the player played, Tracer could appear close near to where she and the opponent are with some of her health and ammo back or she could re-appear on the other side of the map with her ammo and health refilled if she practically rushed over to the enemy to attack them, but then got hit by a strong attack in the way while rushing.
But it's an interesting mechanic in that if the player is paying attention, they could use Rewind to play mind games with the foe or if the foe is paying attention, they can predict where Tracer will re-appear and prepare an attack for her before her reappearance.
I haven’t played Overwatch but for anyone who has, does her rewind function similarly to Ekko’s or Prince of Persia’s? I always thought that was a pretty cool ability but I imagine it would likely just take a form of a counter in Smash like the did for Shulk’s vision.
Her rewind just puts her back in time to whatever position or state you were like 7 seconds ago. And this ability has a cool down you have to wait every time you use it. On Overwatch for the ability to not be to broken too she has like the lowest health in the game so she has to make up for her low health with the rewind mechanic to balance it. So I imagine in smash she probably be super light if she somehow joined smash. Also as gimmicky as it sounds I thought it be intersting if she had to depend on her rewind ability to recover on stage as well, which would leave her open to dying too if you already recovered with rewind and is now on a cool down. Tracer could really be one of the highest learning curves characters to play in high play in smash I imagine cause of some of this weaknesses as helpful as the rewind ability can be if used right too.
Personally, I think that the base game of next game might not be as hyper-focused on new third parties as some people might be expecting (and they'd instead come via DLC, like with Ultimate).
Looking at Smash 4 and Ultimate's base rosters / what I remember from old interviews and the like, I think it's almost certain that Sonic, Pac-Man, and Mega Man are brought back, Ryu, Simon, and Bayonetta are very likely, and then beyond that I could see about 2 other veteran third party series come in plus 1 or 2 new ones before DLC (not including possible new characters added to, for instance, the Sonic franchise).
Also, maybe a hot take, but I don't see any of the "original 12" going away at this point (or at least, they're not likely to). Sure, Ness and Captain Falcon may be irrelevant these days mostly, and Jigglypuff could be considered lower priority than some other characters, but unless Sakurai / whoever might head a new project has a mere skeleton crew for Smash 6, I think that all will sneak into the roster over the course of development time sooner or later, so to speak. Even if they might not all be personally the most iconic, their perfect attendance record gives them some decent level of safety net when the devs are deciding who to prioritize. Like, Jigglypuff might not be prioritized over, say, Villager or Shulk, but as long as there's at least a mid-30's number of veterans, I'd think the pink puffball's veterancy (and relative ease to code, assumedly) would give it priority over some others.

Tracer's recall ability allows the player to rewind their location back about 3 seconds as to undo that mistake. In return, she regains lost health (175 HP is her max HP) and reload her entire clip. Fits as she is one of the lowest health characters for high risk and reward if you can control the pacing to pick off heroes. However, that ability runs on a 12 second cooldown compared to blink's recharge of 3 seconds. Seconds for cooldown in any engagement feels like an eternity at times.
If she does fight, it will be lightweight and very fast thanks to her kit. More like choosing when to engage while playing mind games. Though, her appearance with her skin tight suit might raise some eyebrows to the rating. Then again, Zero Suit Samus is a skin tight suit. They may have to keep Tracer being a lesbian toned down as Blizzard made her like that. Though, that characteristic doesn't seem much for a fighting game.
On the other hand, Pyra and Mythra's designs were touched up a bit before being added to smash, but Sakurai kept their boob physics for whatever reason. Snake and ZSS were also "un-nerfed" in Brawl before being changed in Ultimate. Might just depend on what they feel might fit a given game's art/asset direction, to a certain extent at least.
On the other hand, Pyra and Mythra's designs were touched up a bit before being added to smash, but Sakurai kept their boob physics for whatever reason.
Mythra's is kind of a funny bit because it started with her Spirit artwork being censored, then Monolith Soft made that censored design an actual DLC in Xenoblade 2 and then Sakurai picked that design when adding her in Smash.
Did not realize the physics though, that's hilarious.
I personally like Mythra’s Smash outfit more than her original Xenoblade 2 outfit anyways. I think the black leggings and undershirt add something to the design. I think Pyra and Mythra are great examples of how Smash can tone down outfits for the age rating without losing anything that made them appealing in the first place. I’d imagine Velvet Crowe and Etna could get similar adjustments. I think Jinx’s Arcane attire is probably fine but her default game attire would have to be toned down a bit. Her 2XKO appearance is a good middle ground that should work fine for Smash without needing to change too much.
Tom Nook. He's always relevant and a big name in Animal Crossing which has recently exploded in popularity, I think he's in the running for serious consideration.
Funnily enough, I had a similar idea for a stage based on Wyndon Stadium, but with a few different types (those being Fighting. Ghost/Dark, Fairy, and Dragon) and Gigantamax Pokemon appearing as stage hazards.
I know that your statement is positive toward these two, but I think we need to stop giving validity to this claim. Especially for Captain Falcon - for all intents and purposes, F-Zero 99 is a new game. I understand it's not the big industry shaking AAA F-Zero title people want, but it is a game and enough to say the series is not totally dead and buried. Mute City and Big Blue also get to show up in the best selling Switch game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Captain Falcon probably has more going on nowadays than Fox does, to be honest. So I think lumping him in with this is just outwardly wrong.
And Ness' relevance is more abstract. Earthbound's impact on the industry, specifically on popular indie titles, has been omnipresent and its reputation as Nintendo's defacto cult classic precedes it. When Earthbound was added to NSO, it was this big thing that needed a whole introductory video and everything. This game has a very unique role in Nintendo's history and it's one that they have not shied away from celebrating over the last decade. And of all the wonderful massively successful series in Smash, MOTHER is one of the only ones getting substantial official merch. The series is complete, but the brand and legacy is being kept alive about as well as it can be without releasing full on remakes.
Both of these characters have tons of merit and massive popularity, both because of and independent from Smash, and I think that carries a lot of weight beyond the simple claim that Original 12 is totally safe. Jigglypuff remains the odd one out here otherwise, although I do think its odds are returning are pretty strong. I feel like "priority" is the wrong way to describe it though, Jigglypuff is infamously low priority in nearly every game it has been included in. It just happens that Jigglypuff is such a simple character that it can be slid in late into development with little strain.
I’d love Nia and she’s my favorite Xenoblade character but her getting in as a Mio echo is dependent on Mio getting in as a solo character and not a team with Noah, that’s certainly possible but I’m not super confident that’s the direction they’ll go. I’ll definitely be happy if they do since I like both Mio and Nia. I’d also love to see a unique Nia as a sort of Rosalina-esque beast master with Dromarch or her later unique moveset.
Well, it was Off the Hook for a while, but it feels like that idea has really taken off here over the last few months. I imagine the idols, or the sentiment of any unique Splatoon character, is still somewhat overlooked in the wider sphere of influence but it does seem to be gaining traction.
So I'm not quite sure. I guess Excitebiker since I think their gameplay hook is great and they feel like the big absent pick from "that" branch of NES nostalgia, those classic titles that get referenced all the time. Ice Climbers, Pit, Little Mac, Duck Hunt... Excitebiker feels like the next step to me.
For Xeno, in an "ideal" world, I'd probably like KOS-MOS as a Xenosaga rep (as KOS-MOS is Monolith's mascot I think and as it seems to be canon to the main Xenoblade timeline at this point), Shulk as the main Xenoblade rep, and whoever the most recent other Xeno protag might be.
Disagree with Nia over Mio, Nia has so much potential on her own, and has her own unique moves that having her be an echo of Mio, someone who also has her own unique set of skills that Nia doesn't share, would seriously hinder both characters in terms of uniqueness.
Shulk not only has Alvis as a decent echo choice but Malos could also be a fitting echo choice.

My guess is Octolings as a Inkling echo are almost a sure thing and I could easily see a second unique Splatoon fighter between Callie & Marie, Off the Hook, and DJ Octavio in addition to the Octolings. I feel like they’d all offer something unique. If it were my choice, I’d go with Octavio because he’s the most visually distinct and I’m always a fan of more villains but I could see any of them making it.
Oh man, who on my most wanted list ISN'T a dark horse pick at this point basically lmao
I mean I have characters like Starfy, Fossil Fighters T-Rex, Reimu, a Rhythm Heaven character--yes I consider them dark horse at this point, we haven't had a Rhythm Heaven game since Ultimate's project plan was decided, so as much as I'd like Sakurai to take another crack at what he had planned for Smash 4, I don't know if he will--and a lot of my wants are very dependent on timing and when the project plan happened, like Oatchi and Noah/Mio lol
I guess if I HAD to pick a number one, it'd probably be Rhythm Heaven or Starfy? I feel like Starfy is constantly done dirty by his Assist Trophy, and Rhythm Heaven needs more music and a super-quirky stage, and I don't know if it'll get those without a character at this point.
Mods are getting so good in smash Ultimate recently this is so cool.
Wouldn’t mind if Phoenix wright played similar to this as well if he joins the next smash. And this goes to show visual novel investigation characters like Ayumi Tachibana could get creative movesets with some creativity.
Now this is the kind of mod I love seeing! Though I would still want to see how Nintendo themselves would do it, this is definitely worth looking at in the meantime.
Also, I was always curious what Phoenix Wright's Up B would be and...I guess that could work? I don't know but that's better than nothing.
Though for the Final Smash, I do think the characters should have their stunned animation instead of their dizzy animation. That's usually how it is in the Ace Attorney series.

I’m really hoping that the Ultimate mods can be carried over to Switch 2. There’s a ton of other character model/voice swap mods I’d love to make but I don’t want to spend too much time if I’m not going to be able to play them once I unplug my Switch for the Switch 2. Glad to see moveset mods are getting better. Now they just need to make interesting stage mods. Brawl’s stage mods were so much more interesting in my opinion.

Is Reimu that niche? Touhou's pretty big in Japan, right? At least in my mind, she's one of the obvious possible future indie picks alongside Shovel Knight, Shantae, and the Hollow Knight MC.
