You could make the argument that Zelda and Ganondorf don't exactly have "iconic skills" in the first place. Ganondorf's abilities are wildly inconsistent, and Zelda only uses her Light Arrows some of the time.
I'd say "super moves" just being souped-up specials works as a "general but not concrete rule": it's mostly followed but there are still exceptions (hell, Street Fighter follows this already).
Extra tilts could be fine, but I think they need to follow another "general rule" that back tilts and forward tilts aren't overly divergent from one another in terms of function unlike forward airs and back airs.
What I meant was that a big revamp is only really feasible for Zelda and Ganon, not that I'd like it. They're the only two whose portrayals in canon have diverged from Smash.
That said, I stand by that Ganon's "iconic" canon abilities are stock and boring rather than the unique, standout punching he does in Smash.
I see what you meant now. When I see "enhanced specials" I immediately think of EX moves since that's what that usually means.
You were more referring to stuff like Shinku Hadoken and Shin Shoryuken which are still derived from the base specials as well.
As for the other point, I won't argue Zelda since she tends to not do a whole lot in any of her appearances but there's still a few consistent things for Ganondorf.
Brute strength, magic (mostly in the form of energy projectiles) and swordsmanship are all present in some form in all his appearances.
As far as revamps go I think you could make the argument for a few more like Sonic, but overall I do agree that most of the cast doesn't need anything outside of the standard handful of tweaks between games.
Going back to Zelda and Ganon, I would argue that rather than diverging from Smash recently it's moreso that Smash's portrayals of the two were never accurate to begin with.
In the more literal sense mind you, I do think in terms of play style/feel they did just fine.
And agree to disagree on the last point I suppose. It's also very ironic to call Ganondorf's punching in Smash standout and unique when he's a clone.
I get that you're referring to the idea of Ganondorf as a brawling warlock but I just found that statement funny.
