Timeline wise the next system could go a lot of ways. We could have one last Switch 1 Direct in February which includes pushing XCX (with an announcement that the successor console reveal is coming next month) do the big show-off of the hardware in March, blowout of major games in June, and then release the thing in the fall with the September Direct essentially acting as a launch event along with some 2026 games revealed.

Yeah. We might finally see the reveal of the next Smash game set to come out in 2026, assuming the project Sakurai talked about in his final video is Smash 6.

You can say Amazon's Secret Level is totally different deal from Smash invitation.
I would certainly say so. One is a brand new Netflix project, the other is the biggest gaming crossover series for 25 years running.

Aside from likely being a big budget spectacle, Secret Level had nothing to show for itself. Smash has all of the credibility in the world, as evidenced by two Microsoft series already present. There would be a world of difference for the highest prestige crossover series to extend its hand.

Besides, this article suggests they pitched “a Master Chief / Doom Slayer crossover episode” which may just not have been compatible with the way these series want to portray their brand. Assuming Doomguy is gonna hit the scene ripping and tearing, I don’t think Microsoft would want Master Chief being so relentless and violent for starters.

Didn’t Nintendo say the switch 2 be revealed at march at the latest tho? Like I don’t know man it sounds like a bit to long of a wait for the switch 2. I still remember people thinking we would get the switch 2 revealed at December of 2024 lol, we have waited more then enough really.

We could still be a few months off until the official reveal, but I hope it happens before that. Switch 2 stuff is leaking fast, if they wait until the end of March the whole system and like three launch titles will be online already.

Yeah Nintendo would be stupid to wait such a long time for the reveal at this point.

I think it'll be later this month, atp everyone knows it exists, not much point holding out now that the holiday season's over.
I think the Switch 2 announcement would either be a surprise drop on YouTube or teased a week in advance on their social media.

My prediction is that the game that will be announced that isn’t a dual release or port will be the next 3D Mario since there hasn’t been a full one since 2017. There was Bowser’s Fury but that’s not a full game.

I think his project is either that or
A Star Fox Adventures remake since he wanted to do a Star Fox game back in the 3DS era.

Maybe you'll write that I'm in a hurry, but I think we've waited long enough and they definitely need to report the news about Switch 2 and its video games.

As awesome as this particular variant of Butter Building was (and honestly, Butter Building feels like a cool concept for a stage anyway), there is actually an issue I have with it in a 2D platfighter context; and to explain it, I'll throw together a diagram real quick.

View attachment 397448

The problem that occurs to me is mostly with animation; what with the stage's base being circular, it means that you kind of run into issues with how exactly you handle ledge-grabs. See, from a purely 2D perspective, you could make the argument that you could go all the way to the apparent "edge" of the platform; but doing that would have a few issues.

In this case, presume the red line is the actual "field of play" - that is, the 2D plane within 3D space where all the fighters are. The "edge" of the platform (given it's circular) would be represented with the orange point; but the "apparent edge" I referred to earlier would actually be all the way up where that green point is, pretty far back in the stage's background.

This works fine enough in a purely 2D context like a sprite-based game (such as SSF2 for example), and works just fine in Kirby Fighters 2 because - as you mentioned - the stages are all walled-in. The problem in this particular scenario is that you'd have to work out a way to make it so that character's ledge-grab animations keep to the red line, but as a result, make it so they don't clip into the stage when they're holding onto the side.

This wouldn't be an impossible fix; there's four ways that spring to my mind;
  • A visual gimmick/element loosely akin to the Mario Galaxy stage, whereby characters visibly move into the background a little due to the line of play being physically altered (akin to the green line), but this would run into a ton of issues of visibility (not to mention issues when being launched.)
  • Featuring two additional, entirely unique ledge-grab animations (and possibly animations for things like ledge-hops, ledge attacks, etc) for characters to exclusively use on Butter Building. Seems like a ton of work for just one stage.
  • Redesigning the stage itself to make the ledges more appropriate for the general-purpose animations. Plausible, but you wouldn't want to lose too much of the stage's visual identity in the process.
  • Having Butter Building, which is specifically well-suited to inclusion because it's high above the ground, as a run-off stage that doesn't have lower blast zones. (This kind of defeats the object of including Butter Building in the first place.)
Idk. I've always been a fan of Butter Building but it seems like it'd be a lot of work.
Regarding your third bullet point, I feel like you could add a bit of architecture to the sides of the tower‘s ledge that is mechanized and moves with the camera without losing the stage’s visual identity. Although, since it’d extend the sides of the stage a bit, I think the main tower area would be made slightly smaller. This addition could also extend below the stage’s platform a bit in order to be braced against the main tower, so that you aren’t pineappling every time you try to recover on a stage that otherwise has a completely flat bottom and no side walls. Alternatively, you could add some clouds around the underside and edge of the main platform to grab onto instead, given how high up the tower is. Maybe the shape of the clouds would change a bit as the tower rotates but without breaking the tiling of the pixelart style, to represent its rotation.

Or, they could forget ledgegrabbing and add another way to recover. What I had in mind is having there always be some enemies flying around near the bottom blast zone, and landing on them launches you back toward the stage, but at the cost of taking more damage, so you wouldn’t want to use them to stall offstage. The main stage platform would need to be semisolid so, again, you aren’t pineappling constantly (or they could just let the pineappling happen, idk.)

I’m not sure if your diagram is accurate; the gameplay plane seems to be much closer to the tower so that the upper platform is accessible, but also, I’m not 100% sure if the stage is a circle or an oval, due to the strange FOV the stage’s camera has. I’d really like to see a zoom-out of the stage to make sure. The stage being an oval makes the ledgegrabbing thing more of an issue, though, as that makes the angle more extreme.

I'm definitely feeling like it'll be this month or early next month, mostly so Pokemon Company can show off Legends ZA gameplay/footage for Pokemon Day for the first time since we've heard it was a thing that exists and announce it's either coming to Switch 2 or it's releasing on both Switches, since I feel like Pokemon is a big enough franchise to do that sort of thing and they've been waiting an awfully long time to show anything off, which while I appreciate it because it means they're taking their time in some respect, it also feels sort of suspicious to me lol

From what I've heard they're waiting until the time is right for their Japanese audience to be able to afford millions of Switch 2s.

You just don't want him in. Simple as that. Might as well just say it. Your bias against him is pretty obvious anyway.
"I don't think X will happen" is just Riley's thing for whatever reason. I don't think he's actually biased against Doomguy given he's a Doom mapper.

FWIW the European Nintendo site has it coming to Switch 1

To be fair, that's something that can be updated. For instance, BotW was initially announced as a Wii U game before being delayed and then released for both it and the Switch.

I'm not sure if PLZ will repeat that as Pokemon generally takes its sweet time before getting to the next system, but that report doesn't mean it can't make the jump.

It's more an indication that is not a Switch 2 exclusive, which I've seen some people theorize. (assuming nothing changes)

When a person comes up with a new reason every single time, it's pretty obvious they're against the character getting in. When it comes to Doom Slayer, it's either because of the violence (as if Bayonetta is not the roster), it's because Master Chief exist (as if characters from the same genre can't be in), it's because the FPS genre are nonexistent popular in Japan (as if games like Apex Legends are not popular over there), it's because Dragonborne is "better" (as if they're not completely different series), or, and this is the latest, it's because DOOM didn't actually popularize the FPS genre (as of the genre wasn't literally called "Doom clones" before it had its official name).

You gotta call it out for what it is.

Anton and Peppino feel like characters popular enough to get a guest appearance as Assist Trophies.

If I had to guess, MP4 will release for both Switch 1 and 2 but it will more advertised for the latter. Maybe it will be the equivalent to Breath of the Wild in the first teaser trailer.

Metroid Prime 4 is absolutely coming to Switch 1, even if it does end up being a cross platform release (and it probably will be). The rugpull that this game they announced seven years ago isn't coming to the advertised console less than a year before it finally releases, last appearing in a Nintendo Direct that claimed to be focusing on Switch software, would be scummy as all hell and I just can't see them doing that.

They did cross release with BOTW, it's pretty standard practice for PS4 / PS5 these days, there's no excuse not to release Prime 4 where it was initially meant to be. Optimized for Switch 2 probably, but there's no chance they'd make it exclusive for next gen if they haven't confirmed it already.

So, uh...

Would anyone here like to see Anton from ANTONBLAST in Smash Bros.?

View attachment 397457
Sure, but I'd rather see Peppino. I beat Antonblast last month and liked it, but Pizza Tower left so much more of a lasting impression on me that if we're gonna get an indie character from a Wario-like, I'd much rather vouch for the chef.

If we do get a Nintendo Direct soon to do one last showcasing of upcoming Switch games as well as a date for the Switch 2 reveal, I also hope we get a couple more NSO updates. It's been 3 weeks since Tetris NES and Deluxe, and I hope a Nintendo Direct will give us a couple more big hits for currant NSO consoles before the Switch 2 and potentially any new system announcements for NSO.

So, we're finally in 2025.

What are some things you expect this year, and when?

We know four big games that Nintendo is developing right now.
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition
  • Pokemon Legends Z-A
  • Metroid Prime 4 Beyond
We also know that we'll have some news on the Switch 2 before the end of March.

What games do you expect to be revealed this year?

When do you think we'll get Switch 2 news?

When will the Switch 2 release?

What franchises will be present for the Switch 2's first year?
