Completely random, but remember a few pages ago when I linked an article saying Nintendo might have to start acquiring more studios given all the recent buyouts? Well, I checked Wikipedia, and just this year:

  • Monster Games got bought by iRacing.com (never heard of either)
  • Take-Two announced it would buy Zynga
  • Tencent officially bought Sumo Group
  • Microsoft announced it would buy Activision Blizzard (the big one)
  • Sony announced it would buy Bungie
  • The New York Times bought Wordle
  • Focus Entertainment bought Leikr Studio (never heard of either)
  • Nacon announced it would buy Daedalic Entertainment
  • Tencent announced it would buy Inflexion Studios (never heard of them)
  • Nintendo announced it would buy SRD
  • Tencent announced it would buy 1C Entertainment
  • Netflix announced it would buy Next Games (never heard of thrm)
  • Epic Games announced it would buy BandCamp (not gaming-related, but worth noting)
  • Atari SA officially bought MobyGames
  • Embracer Group officially bought Dark Horse Media (not gaming-related, but worth noting)
  • Sony announced it would buy Haven Studio (never heard of them)
  • Netflix bought Boss Fight Entertainment (never heard of thrm)

exhales

What I'm saying is, I think that article may have had some truth to it. Especially if Tencent keeps at it: good lord, imagine if somebody highly requested for Smash got bought by them...

just because someone doesn’t reply to you doesn’t mean the made it up. They could just have you set to ignore
Well since you're here now anyway, why don't you prove it?

Edit: NVM, saw your previous post. Figured you didn't actually know what you were talking about.

I really want this version of Impa for Smash. She’s just so cool and has two really unique and fun play styles. For Dixie, I’d love to either see her utilize the animal buddies or tag with either Kiddy or revamp Diddy to pair them together.
The animal buddies does sound like it could be an interesting idea

Yeah, my idea for them is to tie each buddy to a different directional special, similarly to how I envision Yuna or Dagger’s summons. Up special would be Squawks, where Dixie could fly upwards as Squawks spits coconuts out of its mouth. Neutral special could be Rambi, where it charges in place then dashes forward with Dixie riding on top similarly to Jigglypuff’s rollout. Down special could be Enguarde who jumps from the ground and summons a big wave that it and Dixie ride on top of for a short distance. Dixie’s forward special could either be another buddy like Squitter or her classic hair twirl. She would obviously have her hair twirl in her moveset in some way but there might be a way to do it without tying it to a special. For example, it could be both her running attack and forward aerial, which would allow her to glide like DK’s forward special.

Here’s a character that I’m sure is a popular request due to the fact that he has both an assist trophy and a Mii outfit but I rarely ever see him brought up: Zero from Mega Man. How would you guys feel about getting Zero in the next game? I’d love to get the X version of the character personally and I think he’d be one of the coolest additions to the cast.

On a related note, I’ve never actually played the Zero series. Would that version of the character work as an alt for his X version or are the two too different to work as one character?

I'd be down with another playable mega man series character. Way back when I used to think Proto Man would be cool. But I suppose Zero is more popular.

I remember when some people were insistent that they were gonna put a Zelda character in FP2 to promote BOTW2 in 2021
Does anyone get the feeling that "Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will actually be the final title? I mean, in all this time and through so many delays, you'd think that they could've at least unveiled a proper title to the game by this point. That, and we literally have Smash games titled "Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS" and "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U", so it's not like the precedent isn't there.

Nah, this game’s gonna be too important to give it a lame name like that.

I don’t know why they would ever do that and not the simpler and better sounding “Breath of the Wild 2”. The only other game I’ve ever seen with that naming scheme was Riven, Sequel to Mist, and I thought that was a stupid name back then.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. I was accumulating my crappy gold points for it. Now I'll have to spend it on Strikers or something before they time out. It was pretty obvious that a delay was a strong possibility but it still stings a little. Though with Hogwarts Legacy hopefully releasing on time by year's end that'll just have to do I suppose.

Hmm so maybe a new console could be coming in spring of 24 with botw2 launching a year prior on switch and then rerelease on the next console like Twilight Princess? No actually that doesn't track I guess the Wii version actually came out before the GCN version meh. Still tho... Kinda interesting they're pushing it back.

I think that's great news. It means they're taking their time to make something great instead of rushing it. Zelda is not taking the Pokémon way...
Yeah, hopefully they’re just taking their time to make it great and they aren’t having unforeseen problems. Long delays and development times don’t always lead to better games. Just look at Too Human and Duke Nukem Forever. Still, I trust Nintendo so I’m sure it will turn out great. Hopefully the same will be true for Metroid Prime 4.

I'm in the opposite boat, where I've never played the X games, but I did a bit of digging and I think I have an answer. Using the Zero version of Zero as an alt for the X version would probably work. Most of their sword abilities are the same, so really the main issue would be special moves (the differences could generally be handwaved) and gimmicks if the devs decided he needed one (I don't see why Zero would need a gimmick). The Zero version uses a handgun instead of an arm cannon, so there would be some animation differences for gun attacks, though. In the later games, he also picks up additional weapons that act like an analogue version of Mega Man's copy abilities, so those would need to be absent. The biggest deal would probably be the Zero version's lack of an air dash.

I'm not familiar with those two games, but I think the context is different. Here, it's Nintendo developping on is own console on wich they have already been working for several years. Of course, it doesn't mean that the result will be great, but one can hope that it's what they are aiming for.

That’s probably true. I’m guessing the pandemic is partially causing some of these long delays but I have faith the end result will be worth the wait. It does seem a bit odd that the BotW sequel will have had at least as long a development cycle as the first game but I’m sure COVID must have pushed them back.

On another note, I’m kind of inspired to make a Smash 6 hopes roster but I’m at a crossroads and I’m curious what you guys think. When making a roster, do you guys just tend to go with all of your personal favorite characters or do you lean more towards characters who are more popular with the general fanbase? I have always gone with the former but I wanted to at least try to incorporate a few popular picks in my roster so it doesn’t just end up as a list of “my 20-25 favorite video game characters”. What kind of balance do you typically aim for?

Popular yet realistic. That's what I usually go for.

Zero is one of my top 5 most wanted for Smash especially since when he appeared in the video as an AT it looked like he made it in the roster oof. I'd prefer the X version but if the Zero version got in I'd be satisfied. I dont think they'd work as alts due to differing weapons and their body structure

Yeah that makes sense. I think I’m going to lean towards characters I personally have an attachment towards but could at least have some justification to get in. For example, my favorite video game character ever is Zegram Ghart from Rogue Galaxy. Seeing as he’s a side character from a Sony owned PS2 JRPG, he has no business being in Smash so I should leave him off the roster. The Battletoads, on the other hand may not be terribly likely but they were a from a fairly popular NES game that have made cameos in Shovel Knight, Killer Instinct, and have had a recent game, so I would add them.

I think what I might do this time, that I never have before, is throw in a few generally popular characters I see get discussed. The biggest issue for me is that a lot of the most popular choices conflict with my own personal favorites, in that they are all Microsoft characters. If I add popular requests like Crash, Master Chief, and Doom Slayer, there would be no room for my own most wanted in Battletoads, Fulgore, and Sarah Kerrigan. Just going for all popular picks without making it personalized to myself seems kind of pointless because most rosters would look very similar at that point.

The interesting thing with BotW 2's delay will be if it affects the release of other titles, and what the fallout will be with stuff like the E3 Direct. Now the former may not have as many shifts given how much work/polish is to be done on upcoming Nintendo titles, but if there is an upcoming high profile game that can be reasonably moved from a potential early 2023 release to holiday 2022, they might do it.

The latter is going to be very interesting to see because while some potential highlighted footage might be seen, the delay of the sequel till next year likely means something else could be getting a big spotlight. Given that Pokémon releases tend to get their major developments showcased in their own presentations... what will be Nintendo's "holy s***" reveal, if there is to be one?

Edit: Something I just realized is that barring a surprise port/remake, this will be the first year since 2012 to not have a significant Zelda release:

2013: Wind Waker HD/Link Between Worlds
2014: Hyrule Warriors
2015: Tri-Force Heroes
2016: Twilight Princess HD
2017: Breath of the Wild
2018: Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition
2019: Link's Awakening Remake
2020: Age of Calamity
2021: Skyward Sword HD

Alright, I tried to make this list a mix between my personal favorite characters and generally popular characters in the Smash community. For starters, I chose not to make any cuts to the roster because I don’t really find that as interesting to discuss and I wouldn’t want anyone to lose their favorite characters.

Base game newcomers:

1) Mipha
2) Akira Howard
3) Dixie Kong with Animal Buddies
4) Zoroark/Hisuian Zoroark
5) Octoling
6) E.M.M.I.
7) Impa (Hyrule Warriors design)
8) Waluigi
9) Bandana Dee
10) Isaac
11) Ryu Hyabusa
12) Zero (Mega Man X design)
13) Xehanort (Ansem/Xemnas/Xehanort transformation)

Pass 1:

1) Scorpion/Sub-Zero (echoes with different specials)
2) Alphen and Shionne (transformation)
3) The Battletoads (Rash/Pimple/Zitz alts)
4) Nightmare
5) Magus/Guile (alts)
6) Sarah Kerrigan

Pass 2:

1) Crash Bandicoot
2) Bill Rizer/Lance Bean (alts)
3) Fulgore
4) Dr. Eggman
5) Lu Bu
6) Nemesis

I left out several of my own personal favorite characters here because I couldn’t really justify their inclusion in the game. I’ve already mentioned Zegram so I won’t go further into him. Another favorite is Gengar but we already have so many Gen 1 Pokémon that it feels wrong to add another. My other top four favorite Pokémon are Golisopod, Cofagrigus, and Orbeetlebut none of those make much sense to add. Illidan Stormrage from WarCraft is one of my favorite characters but I feel like Microsoft was already pretty heavily represented and he does have a lot of visual similarities to Kazuya’s demon form. Other favorites like Goomba, Raziel, Jena Anderson, and Pharaoh Man we’re just too random.

Hopefully I did an alright job that makes most people relatively happy while still keeping the list personal to show a lot of my favorites who at least have some justification to join the roster.

Apologize with another season of Smash DLC.

How would you guys feel about getting Zero in the next game?
He's deserving.

Alright, I tried to make this list a mix between my personal favorite characters and generally popular characters in the Smash community.
If it were up to me to choose newcomers, I'd hold another Smash Ballot, then alternate between ballot winners, and my personal most wanteds.
