What Finial Fantasy characters would you like to see in Smash?

Doesn't have to be the three I picked.
FF7: Tifa, Barret, Vincent
FF: Terra, Yuna/Black Mage, Noctis

Smash could use more female characters. What female characters would you like to see in Smash? Here are mine:

Lara Croft
Amy Rose

This might sound weird, but I never really cared for the "Smash needs more females" thing. Like, I get it, there really isn't that many females in Smash, but a lot of the time whenever I see someone suggest more females, it has this sort of feeling of "let's add a female character for the sake of adding a female character", if that makes any sense. That being said, most of the ladies you've suggested have at least eaened the right to be in Smash (except maybe Krystal, but she's a popular request, so it balances out), so I can't really complain.

I'd like to see Joanna Dark in Smash. Perfect Dark was a hit game on the N64 and even had an item in Melee. Now after Banjo & Kazooie got added, they might as well add Joanna Dark too.

There’s a ton of characters I’d love to see get into Smash, both male and female. I could probably go on forever but I’ll try to limit myself somewhat lol. Here are some female characters I’d love to see make it into Smash at some point:

1) Sarah Kerrigan (StarCraft)
2) Shionne (Tales of Arise)
3) Velvet Crowe (Tales of Berseria)
4) Black Orchid (Killer Instinct)
5) Dixie Kong w/Animal Buddies (DKC)
6) Princess Garnet (Final Fantasy IX)
7) Impa (Hyrule Warriors design)
8) Medusa (Kid Icarus)
9) Goombella (Paper Mario)
10) Jena Anderson (Astral Chain)
11) Etna (Disgaea)
12) Gaige (Borderlands)
13) Makoto (Persona 5)
14) H’aanit (Octopath Traveller)
15) Petra (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)
16) Lulu (Final Fantasy X)
17) Nia and Dromarch (Xenoblade 2)
18) Joana Dark (Perfect Dark)
19) Tharja (Fire Emblem: Awakening)
20) Urbosa (LoZ: Breath of the Wild)

There are plenty of other characters who are very deserving who I’d be happy to see like Lara Croft and Chun-Li but I never really had as much a personal connection with them as characters compared to the ones listed above. I could keep going but I think I’ll call it there for now.

The same can be said for a lot of requests that don't ask for a specific character, like "we need more villains" or "we need more retro reps", etc.

Rather than trying to satisfy quotas, I think people ask for it either because they have a lot of female characters they want or as you said because Smash rosters are heavily skewed in favor of male characters.

People just want more diversity in their media more than ever. It's the same reason you have people begging for more black/PoC characters in Smash.

I knew about Dixie but I had no idea about Nia. I liked her as a character a lot more than Pyra, Mythra, or Rex but she might have been an odd pick over them since she was more of a side character.

yeah sakurai said in an article that after he couldn’t get the two characters at once to work he considered Rex, pyra/mythra and nia as alternatives. And I’m with you she was more likeable than pyra and mythra

I wonder if Tifa were in Smash if they'd utilize the limit. All of her limits could simply be utilized as normal moves. They'd actually work better that way I think. I'd rather they not stay faithful to the luck-based source material of her limits in the original game. They'd probably stick with 3 slots if they did but still...

Beat Rush = Side-Special or Dash attack
Water Kick = Down-Tilt or Down-Special
Meteor Dive = Down-Throw
Meteor Strike = Up-Throw
Dolphin Flurry = Up-Special
Sommersault = Up-Air
Final Heaven = Neutral-Special >>>>>>>>> or a Final Smash I guess.

I'd let Barret and Tifa into the game before anybody could convince me to stop. I'd even make Aerith an assist trophy that heals and/or replenishes a stock and sometimes does the same for your opponent. Also make the Golden Saucer cart ride a stage...

Only then would I acknowledge the desires of people that refuse to bask in the splendor FFVll in all its glorious representation in Smash.

I’d be hyped with any Final Fantasy character from 7-10. I also really enjoyed 4 and 6 but I don’t have quite the same nostalgia for them as I do for 7-10.

Of those games, FF IX is my favorite and also probably my favorite game ever overall as well. Pretty much any character from IX would be really fun and unique but my personal favorite is Dagger/Garnet both as a character and for her moveset potential based on summons.

I like Yuna’s Aeons even more than Garnet’s so she would be great as well but I don’t care as much for her as a character. I think the simplest option for Yuna is to tie each Aeon to a different directional special. Up for Valefor, down for Ifrit, neutral for Shiva, side for Ixion, and Final Smash for Bahamut. She would use one of the Aeon’s normal specials but she could have a limit like Cloud that could change the move to the Aron’s overdrive. Bahamut would always use Mega Flare regardless. My favorite from X would be Lulu. Lulu probably wouldn’t be as interesting gameplay wise since we do have other black mages. She could potentially play into her puppet master abilities with her dolls with her normal attacks similar to Rosalina which would make her stand out a bit compared to our other mage characters at least.

For VII, I’d go with Vincent Valentine. He is my favorite playable character in that game and one of my top three in the series. I feel he is very underrated and has a ton of potential with his gun and monster transformations. He even had his own game. It probably won’t ever for Smash but I also love that he was voiced by Steve Blum in Advent Children, one of my favorite voice actors.

FF9 was great for me because it felt like a return to form. It's story is excellent and compelling and the gameplay and graphics are well done. I would love to see a character from 9 get into smash though, any character really...

This got me thinking about magic users too...

We have discussed a Mii Mage.wr have Robin, Hero, Zelda? What other magic users could be in smash? Besides Vivi/Black Mage of course.

Are we talking characters who have a realistic chance or just characters we’d like to see? If it’s the latter, I could name several I’d love.

We only ever talk about one or the other. Let's spice things up by talking about both!
Alright, my top two most wanted mages are Magus from Chrono Trigger and Shionne from Tales of Arise. I feel like both of these characters have at least some small chance of making it in, although Magus’ chances are much smaller than Shionne’s.

Magus’ one hope is that he is the only character that can represent both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross by having Guile as an alt and pulling moveset inspiration from both of them. For those that don’t know, the two were originally intended to be one character but that was dropped due to time constraints. It does seem like they are hinting the two may still be the same character in the DS port of Chrono Trigger. I made a full support thread for Magus with a full moveset for Ultimate I’ll share again here later.

As for Shionne, I loved her character and she’d be unique as both a gunner and a mage who uses black and white magic. She has enough material to work on her own but I’d love to see her as a tag duo with Alphen. Their two movesets compliment each other really well with Alphen being a close range fighter with self damaging skills and Shionne being a ranged gunner/mage with healing magic. Tales of Arise was a fairly popular recent game so I think she has a decent chance of making it in, with or without Alphen.

Yeah, 9 was my personal favorite of the PS1 era (that, and Tactics). I generally feel like Final Fantasy's at its best when it's focused on high fantasy (or at most, steam punk) as opposed to the advanced technological settings that most Nomura games fall under.

As for mages...... I mean, I might as well just repeat most of what I said about female characters.
Quite a few of my MWs happen to be female. Not sure if it's a coincidence, or if it's just the result of me being a sucker for moe.

Hmm, then ask yourself a question...
Megaman NT Warrior/Rockman.EXE, OR, The Inklings from Splatoon for SSB6 (a comeback).?

I suppose I’ll go with Inklings. Now if we were talking X, Zero, Sigma, Wily, Bass, several of the Robot Masters (particularly Pharaoh Man), or Mavericks, it would be a different story. That’s just my personal preference for being a classic Mega Man fan though. Inklings are more deserving at this point than a second Mega Man character. I’d argue a second Splatoon character is more deserving as well.

why would it be a choice?
Given their history of random, often off-topic posts, I really think ZeldaFan is just a troll. Best to ignore them. But seriously, there is no way in hell they'd cut Inkling in the next Smash (especially not in favor of a MegaMan variant that, as much as Capcom tried pushing it in the '00s, has arguably fallen further out of relevence than the classic series, X series, and maybe even Zero series). Splatoon's just become too big of an IP for that to possibly be a thing, not unless the next Smash is 10 years away and it somehow manages to become a dead franchise in that time (in which case, the potential for a cut only becomes a "maybe").

Yeah, I’m f anything, I think a second Splatoon character is as close to a sure thing as we can get for a character for the next Smash with how successful that franchise has become. If it came down to personal preference though, I’d take a classic Mega Man character like Zero over Inklings but that’s never happening and realistically shouldn’t.

Guess it was pulled out of your ass.
No, there's an actual source for Dixie. She actually was planned for Brawl.

Actually, Diddy Kong was going to be paired with Dixie Kong. Create a system that instantly
swaps . But there were various difficult parts and I cut it early. I chose Diddy Kong
because it was so popular that it was strange that I didn't participate in the war. The movement was also interesting.
This is the effort of the motion designer . It's like a monkey, and you can express how it runs around, and
it's okay to hate the place where you can throw a banana sword and roll your opponent, right?
The frustration of the barrel jet panic at the last cut
has reproduced the operation feeling of the barrel jet in "Donkey Kong 64". I wonder if there is something similar to "Bangering Bay" (laugh)
The gist of it is that Dixie was planned as a tag team partner for Diddy, just like in DKC2. Essentially a combination of the Ice Climbers' dual fighter and Pokemon Trainer/Zelda/Sheik's transformation gimmicks. But this was cut due to technical reasons, and only Diddy got into Brawl instead.

No no, I meant Nia supposedly being considered.

Oh, I didn't read your post right, oops.

Yeah I don't think I've ever heard of Nia being considered. IIRC all we ever told was that XB2 came too late for a character in base game Ultimate, and that Rex couldn't be made playable due to technical problems, which is why they just went with Pythra.
