Seems like you missing the real candidate Armstrong.

Nanomachines son. Nuff Said. Time we destroyed the two-player system
I dunno.

After the whole putting children's brains in jars thing and forcing them to witness atrocities thing... I dunno if I can vote for that.

I don't expect them to split it by direction when there could instead be a dedicated "dash" button and you just use the control stick to choose the direction.
But that's the part that makes wavedashing destroy hands.

Red Arremer: Breathes fireballs and dives bombs while flying out of opponents’ reach
He'd be on my AT wishlist if he weren't already on my Fighter wishlist.

There's your problem, the media embedder still doesn't know about the new name.
Nah, the embed is still weird. It just shows a big white box and text. It doesn't fully embed it.

Also, it said "we're having trouble fetching the tweet" earlier on SneakyLink's post, which is the main reason I posted it. I didn't know they were even the same url at that point, heh.

I don't think we are getting Ultimate Deluxe, but being backwards compatible has never stopped any company ever.
BC won't stop Ult Deluxe from happening,
BC plus relicensing a buttload of third-party content plus Sakurai definitely being smart enough to avoid a situation like this
would likely stop Ult Deluxe from happening

I dunno, I think the Bowser's Inside Story remake being on a system that could already play the original stopped AlphaDream pretty well.

It also mentions NSO will be on the successor as well, which is fantastic if it means all of the NES/SNES/Genesis/N64/GB/GBA games currently available on Switch will all be on the successor from the get-go. Don't have to wait another 5 frickin' years for the same past console game to come out on the new system again.

When it comes to the Ultimate air dodge, what I dislike about the anti-wavedash changes isn't even so much that you can't wavedash, it's that what happens in place of it just makes the airdodges feel awkward.

Like, randomly jerking back before dodging feels anti-common sense both physics and movement wise, and when it comes to physics, I feel like breaking common sense is one of the worst sins you can do. If he really wanted to neuter wavedashing that bad (which I disagree with but that's another thing), the traction changes would have done it on their own.
Sakurai's first trauma was taking too many Ws at his local arcade. His second trauma was people playing his games competitively. :drsad:

I'm NGL this is some big brain thinking. I don't quite agree with every move choice you gave, but this would solve the problem of having to give universal animations to the entire cast. Only thing is, no tether for the Yoshi? He's built for it
To be fair, I did say I hadn't gone through the whole cast, those were just the ones I fired off from the top of my head.

That said, Yoshi's tongue not tethering is super weird now that you mention it. I don't play Yoshi, so I never really considered it, but grappling around with his tongue has been used in a couple games so it's not even like it'd be a left field thing. And even if Smash was somehow the first to implement it, it feels natural given the way his tongue works. Now the absence of grapple tongue action is going to bother me until it gets added.

In DMC's case, it was absolutely 100% necessary to make a special edition in order for Vergil to be playable anyway :4pacman:
You do know that Vergil was just paid DLC for the PS4/XB1 version. Legendary Dark Knight mode on the other hand needed that extra horse power.

Ironically, he's not above turning games that weren't meant to be competitive into competitive ones:

I know, but shhh, don't ruin the joke.

I wanna say this is a death knell for any "Ultimate Deluxe" believers, but I know smash fans are the type to hold onto that hope till the finish line...
"Ultimate Deluxe" may be dead...

But it looks like Fighters Pass 3 is back on the menu boys!

This is my thought on any big mechanical change that would require some major, universal rework across the roster.

To casuals, fighting games are their casts. No, casuals do not buy fighting games for story modes alone. Those are too anemic to stand up on their own if you're not a fan of the characters or the underlying game going in. The roster is the action figures, the story mode is a plastic play set. If a casual fan cannot differentiate between the mechanics of two fighting games, which is often the case if two games are generally similar, then the characters make up the difference.

Yes, other fighting games frequently cull and reinvent their veterans, but those games aren't Smash. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and especially Rivals of Aether are all aimed at a much specialized audience that is much more intimately familiar with how the genre works. There's an expectation that this isn't your first rodeo.

And, to be candid, is following the mainstream fighting game industry really that great of an idea? These games are slowly becoming infamous for being half-finished products with progressively smaller player bases that are increasingly beholden to being continuously nickeled and dimed to make up for inflating budgets and decreased sales of the base game. The origin of things like the $5 Mishima Dojo isn't solely corporate greed, it's an attempt to find alternate models of monetization to keep major studios interested in the genre.

Any mechanical change has to make up for the utility lost from characters being removed from the judgment point of a casual fan. Yes, a thread full of people who have put thousands of hours into Smash is going to get a lot more out of something like an aerial Smash Attack or reworking many of the 64, Melee, and Brawl vets, but the general public isn't as fatigued. I mean, Ultimate still sells. That means casuals feel this entry at least modern enough to be a commercially viable $80 game. Things aren't nearly as stale as we may perceive.
Yeah i agree i Literally use characters to tell storys like i made my own DBZ Arc by playing budokai tenkaichi 3!
And i personnally dont care about heavy reworks for everyone!
Howver i think that some older smash characters could use SOME more general refrences!
Give Toon and toy Link a Hammer, give MArio the tanooki tail instead of the cape and stuff like that!

However i dont want a "modern" Rework for anyone i want a slight rework representing the character thougout their entire series!

For example dont give zelda a moveset based entirly arround the trirod but give her the trirod when she summons the phantom! (and for a taunt with tri)

That goes so far that i hate stuff like the ancient arrows or t-rex mario because it makes the character too specific! (howver if you give the classic links the light arrows instead it could work)

Or Making Toon Link more Windwakery i want him to be less Windwaker to be honest with Sword and shield options from all his appearnces (and maybe toy link as an alt)

I'm sure Sakurai would want to cut as little characters as possible for the next game, but then there's a problem because of the possibility of a condensed roster. And even if they cut at least 1/4 of the roster, would they even have enough room for reworks or a few major mechanics like new moves, or even newcomers?
I personnally think if they start reusing more stuff it could work! Because i dont know why f.E Toon link needs a new model just a shader could be enough!
Or MAybe make the models future proof THIS Time and then reuse them in smash 7?
I mean Switch 2 is probably gonna have ps4 type graphics and TBH Smash already looks amazing on switch!

Ps 5 Styler graphics only make photorealisim look better and that style doesnt fit 95% of the smash cast!
