My top 3 would be:

1. Rayman: He is an iconic character from the 90's, and aesthetically fits in Smash perfectly. Nintendo and Ubisoft seem to have a good relationship, so it sucks he was relegated to a spirit in Ultimate, after being relegated to a trophy in Smash 4.

Origins and Legends are masterpieces and you should try them out, if you haven't.

2. Neku: When TWEWY first came out, I hated Neku; but that's the point. You see him grow from this emo loner, to a character that actually respects others. Besides he has so much potential for a moveset, and he would also bring in some amazing music.

3. KOS-MOS/Estelle/Yuri: I had a hard time picking between these 3, as I think they all have their own merits. KOS-MOS has a really cool design, brings in some amazing music, a ton of moveset potential, and we could use some more Xeno reps.

Estelle from Trails in the Sky, just has a likeable personality. Like KOS-MOS, she would bring a pretty unique moveset, especially because she wields a staff and can use magic. Trails also brings in some great music. Falcom is one of the oldest Japanese game companies out there, and they definitely have left a mark on the industry despite not being all that well known.

Yuri Lowell would be my choice for a Tales pick; throw your generic anime swordsman insults at me. I just find that his personality is rare for JRPG protagonists, being more laid-back and antihero-esque without becoming too edgy. They could also make him combo-based to differentiate him from other swordfighters. Give him some overlimits, burst artes, and a mystic arte as his final smash and you have a unique fighter.

Another fun game with plank:
Why do you want your top 3? What reasons are they so high up in your list? I’ll start.
Freddy Fazbear- I’ve gotten back into a fnaf craze kind of and I kind of miss fnaf, also I think he would be very unique from a moveset and just his presence alone would make the game feel different.

Geno- The Geno thread is absolutely incredible and really got me hooked on the character, we have waited for a very long time and we are ready for geno in smash.

SACKBOY- OH BOY, Sackboys my most wanted because I really want LBP to stay alive, but also because Sackboy would be insanely hype and he’s my childhood, and the moveset potential is INSANE.
2B - First, Nier: Automata was a really damn good game that had me gripped from the start and looking at her moveset, There is so much Sakurai could do with her.

Morrigan - At first, she was in my "Least hyped" list but playing her in MvC as well as the OG Darkstalkers made me love her (And Felicia...and Hsien-ko)

Tracer - I'm a big fan of Overwatch and have been since the Beta and despite Activision-Blizzard being complete bell-ends, It would be awesome to see her in it. Plus, I want to collectively bathe in the salt the Smash community if she gets in. ESPECIALLY if she gets in before Doomguy, Crash, Geno and Hayabusa.

Nothing against those four (Especially Doomguy, Geno and Hayabusa cause a fighting Pinocchio and a demon-fighting ninja are always awesome and I'd like to see them in and Doomguy getting in means that Scorpion/Kitana might have a chance too) but the way people talk about them like and how much as made me grown to dislike them and make me actively root against them.

Depends on me. If I'm with other people, I go in. Was watching the VGA and still remembered how I collectively lost my mind to Joker while my friends watched me utterly concerned. I was incoherent.
I was at a pre-order party for SSBU when I saw the announcement, and I had never even seen Persona 5. Everyone was shouting "JOKER!" and I was thinking, "Didn't daddy Sakurai say no fourth-parties?"?

  1. Heihachi - There's multiple reasons why, but there's a specific one I want to bring up here: in light of Terry getting into Ultimate and thus indirectly reviving the old SNK vs. Capcom rivalry, why not also bring in Heihachi (or any other Tekken character, but Heihachi seems the most likely) and do the same for Street Fighter X Tekken (and maybe also give Bandai Namco a reason to finally finish and release Tekken X Street Fighter)?
  2. Dante - My reason is simple: Dante vs. Bayonetta. Two of the biggiest icons of the Hack 'n Slash video game genre, both created by the same guy? It's a matchup made in heaven, and since the Project X Zone games haven't done it yet for some reason, Smash would be the perfect battleground for these two.
  3. Akira Howard - Out of all the potential first party characters I want to see in Smash right now (or at least the recent ones), they're the one I want to see the most. Astral Chain is an amazing game, and the way the Howard twins and their Legions play make them an excellent candidate for another Rosalina & Luma-type character.

Which makes me amused when I see all these "Rules" the fans or even Sakurai himself like to place until Sakurai decides to say "Screw the rules, I have money" and breaks them. Sakurai does what Sakurai wants to do

You've completely missed the joke.

He's referring to the comics Joker. The Joker in Smash isn't fourth party and that "rule" is still in place.

Yoooo Bomberman 64 and The Second Attack! were my childhood games. I played the Second Attack so much with my brother. Bomberman would be dope and I would love a Pommy spirit.
Man I still need to play Second Attack. It took me years before I realised Bomberman 64 had a sequel lol

WOOOOSH. I totally forgot about that abysmal Joker. Easy to do in my case when Mr. Freeze is my favorite Batman villain.

This is such a weird way to try and defend Shantae when she's only got like 3 years on Shovel Knight and specifically Shovel Knight has multiple releases of different games within the Shovel Knight IP that has maintained as much consistency, if not more experimentation than the Shantae games have over the course of the past 5 years. There are multiple Shovel Knight games and Shovel Knight isn't exactly fading from the public conscious. He's more than a one-hit wonder, and he basically has the same longevity as Shantae (Yes, she technically dates back to 1997... then had a release in 2002 that absolutely bombed and she wasn't heard from again until 2010, she's only shown consistent longevity in the past decade, 8 years of nothing with barely anything to account for the first 5 before that shouldn't really be counted towards her record of longevity).
As was said 12 years.
Shovel Knight has had a single game with DLC Campaigns. Yeah, they ended up marketing them as if they were separate games, but they all intially began as, and in many ways still are, DLC for the main Shovel Knight game.
The character himself is only just now getting a somewhat sequel (if the other current games are considered as stand alone games then they would be spin-offs rather than sequels in the same series).
The release in 2002 bombed because Capcom held onto it for so long that the GameBoy Advance was announced, so to try and help, WayForward added in some functionality with the GBA before finally getting to release it, it didn't bomb because the game was bad but rather due to bad timing. It still became a cult classic. All the same, that doesn't negate that Shantae has existed longer and has proven to have a history of great games. Shovel Knight still only has that single game with extra campaigns added via DLC, that's what I meant by longevity..as far as I'm concerned, he still has to prove he's not a one hit wonder by having a true sequel with gameplay just as good (and I'm looking forward to it since I adore Shovel Knight).

Also, part of why there was that 8 Years of Nothing was due to WayForward not being able to find a publisher for Shantae Advance and thus needing to wait all the way until the DSi when it became possible for them to publish their own titles without needing a AAA Publisher to back them.

I've said quite a lot about Zhao Yun and Ryu Hayabusa who both happen to be my top 2 characters for Smash. They both have playstyles that I'd like to see in Smash and represent a different part of Koei-Tecmo respectively. For me to go into detail to why I want these 2 in Smash would make me ramble on to the point that I'd oversleep and be late to work tomorrow.

However, I do want to talk a bit more about York from Deadly Premonition. He's the most WTF character out of everyone in my Most Wanted list (and perhaps maybe the most WTF character in general because not even I think he has that much of a chance of showing up in Smash) because Deadly Premonition is a very polarizing game. It does a lot of things wrong from the poor looking graphics to the unpolished gameplay, yet at the same time, it's 1 of the most charming aspects of Deadly Premonition because of how whack the game is with the story and characters. I can't even think of a moveset for York, yet here I am really wanting to see him in Smash because he's probably my favorite video game protagonist ever and somehow manages to be a great fit for Smash while at the same time feeling very out of place. Even though a sequel was announced, I know it'll be a longshot to see the FBI Special Agent in Smash because his inclusion ultimately depends on if Sakurai likes Deadly Premonition enough to include it, but if the day does come where we see the Smash logo in his coffee, he'll make me the most emotional out of the 3 even when he's my 3rd most wanted character in Smash.

I'm not assuming anything, Bayonetta is in Smash, therefore your arguments against Scorpion are invalid, "The lore is terrible" is just your opinion, but ok I'm not going to judge it
Have a nice day
I wasn't asking only what would be too violent for Nintendo to allow into Smash, but also what would be too violent for you personally.

Regarding the lore and gore:
I doubt that most people who want a Mortal Kombat character in Smash care that much about the lore.
I really doubt that a new Mortal Kombat game with no fatalities and no blood would sell anywhere close to par with other Mortal Kombat titles.
Of course there are people who are fine without those things, but the more iconic features are taken away from these characters, the smaller their pool of supporters becomes.

Second Attack is so much better imo. But maybe that's because I like how there's elemental bombs and the co-op play and stuff. Also one of the worlds is a theme park!

Phoenix Wright - I love Ace Attorney, my favorite character is Phoenix Wright, it has perfect music for smash and i also love how Phoenix was handeled in Marvel vs Capcom, so for me is a dream to see him in Smash.
Shantae - She's my favorite female protagonist, i like her games a lot, and she has some burning songs, so i definitely would be happy to see her in Smash.
Reiji Arisu - I love crossovers, and the Namco X Capcom/Project X Zone it's one of the best crossovers (Beside Smash Bros, of course) i've played, so i would love some representation of it in Smash, and the main character is the perfect representative of it.

It was actually in regards to the Project X Zone games. Bayonetta was intended to be in one of those (Dante is also in them), but her and Dante's creator Hideki Kamiya vetoed it, because he wanted to make a crossover game between the two himself.

The Next Mario character added to the series should be King Boo from Luigi's Mansion
- Big Role in Main Series games (counting Luigi's Mansion as a main series for Luigi at least)
- Big Boss Character
- Unique Character
- Unique Moveset Potential
- Has a Potential Alternate Costume in the Spin-Off game King Boo.

#1: Literally any Advance Wars rep. I've loved these games for ages, and the series is way, way too old and too big to not have any representation in Smash. It's got a ton of fantastically-designed characters who could so easily make the jump. Hell, I'd even take a stage.

#2: Reimu. I love Touhou, and she's got a great design, she's relevant, she's a significant part of gaming history, she's got great moveset potential. It all works.

#3: Octoling (not an echo): Splatoon is one of the best IPs Nintendo's made in ages, and is absolutely huge right now. I want Octoling as a proper Splatoon 2 rep with a completely unique moveset. Gimme Brella, Splatling, Charger, Booyah Bomb, the works.

Look at my mains throughout the years.
You can NEVER have enough Mario characters.
We still need Toad, Toadette (Echo, not alt), Waluigi, Geno, Paper Mario, Pauline, and Dry Bowser.
Hell, Lubba would be cool as a Rosalina+Luma semi-clone. Just Luma's moveset on a bigger character.
Birdo and Wart too. SMB2 needs love.

Wait are we doing Unpopular Smash Opinions, if so i have a Few

-when you really think about it, it make no sense for Spirits to be eligible to be Playable, but Not Assist Trophies
-If we got an Assist Promotion, Waluigi wouldn't be the First one
-My Personal Opinion is it would Be Shadow, but I can see Isaac or Bomberman.
-Also, Shadow as an echo fighter was never a good idea, and he's better as an AT Than Echo
-Resident Evil is not gonna get a Playable Character, but i can see Mii Costumes
-Mortal Kombat characters aren't as unlikely as people make it out to be
-If Dante only has his Standard Kit of Rebllion and Ibony and Ivory, he wouldn't be Epic and I Hope they don't add him (and/or they add Vergil or Nero instead). If he has some of his extra Weapons sign me up
-Little Mac Doesn't need to be reworked. He's a Fun Character and I love the Super Armor, but I think they coul buff Down Tilt and his aerials
-Nakoruru wasn't as unique as people were making her out to be during the whole 4 days of SNK Speculation
-Actually going off that, A lot of the time people Overrate how unique their Characters would be
-Mrs.PAC-Man shouldn't be hard to add. She's cameos on Pac-Land so it would seem they got past the licensing issues with her
-Steve was always a Popular Character request starting from Smash 4. I Remember Miiverse

That's all i can think of for now

What? Hilde's in?! I gotta watch that gameplay trailer. And as a Cassandra main, I'm happy for her. Cassandra is... very "friendly" to Hilde in that old comic and in uncanon story modes. She's also the only woman Cassandra uses her "You're definitely not my type" intro for, suspiciously enough. I don't use Hilde (although she's cool and I like her spear/sword combo), but they're one of the few girl pairings I ship. It's cute and hilariously one-sided.

But I digress... Yes, a Soul Calibur rep would be cool.
Uuuuuuuh... should I have used spoiler tags? My bad, sorry! :(

Ever since Terry got announced, I’ve become really interested in fighting game lore. And SC was a big part of my teen years. (Managed to beat Soul Blade/Edge on the arcades as Sigfried, and basically witnessed the start of SC, then jumped straight to SC3 and then 4).
So I really like those special intro interactions. I wish Smash had them.

I see a lot of people love Cassandra. I don’t know why she went completely under my radar. But I would really love to learn about the whole story.

Although I personally prefer Elma more than Rex and Pyra, I'm cool with more Xeno content in general; I support them all.
Even though Elma and Rex/Pyra both have a decent shot of making it in, I think Rex takes one tier of priority above Elma, as Sakurai straight up lamented to fans that he was unable to make time for Rex's implementation during the direct when his Mii costume was announced. He was planned for Ultimate during its development, and seeing how eager Sakurai is now to keep adding onto the roster with new fighters, I'll be shocked if we don't see him, or another Xeno character in smash down the road.

Unfortunately I don't think Sakurai and Devs care enough about our side of the fanbase to do something like that. I mean, I'd only believe it when I see it.
What do you mean your side of the fan base? Are you talking about people (mostly women, I've observed) that will only play as or will only be happy with female characters? Then yes, you're probably right.

Lara Croft appeals to me and I'm a guy. There are a lot of women out there whose top pick is a male character. We, unlike some of you in this thread, aren't so bought into certain ideologies as to be completely unsatisfied with Smash or its DLC if we don't get an "X" character, in this case a female DLC fighter. We're just happy with anything, really. Bummed sometimes, sure, but we're not freaking boycotting the pass because of it.

Sakurai and his team are no doubt trying to satisfy as many fans as possible with their character picks, as evidenced by the fact that we have 80+ characters in this all-star fighting game. So for you to criticize them as "not caring" about you like you're being discriminated against is pure conjecture and is quite ridiculous. You've guys have got to let go of this mentality that if people don't pander to you that you're going to just remain unsatisfied. If you do, then you will be missing out on all the great things you do have. Sure, I don't have Isaac and I'll probably never get Scorpion. But man, I am so glad the team has worked so hard to secure the rights to the fighters they have. What an awesome privilege we have to put Mario, Sonic, Samus, Banjo and Kazooie, Cloud, Mega Man, Simon, and Link on the same screen together!

This post is mostly for fun and based on indonesian "Cocokology" method, please read with a truck of salt. and PS. in reality, the blade maybe refering to : https://laravel.com/docs/5.8/blade

now its all made sense

a new bladed character
So its pretty clear that DLC fighter 5 given ChallengerBlade is an character with an sword or at least something sharp and 3rd party. Some contenders.
a new gym leader looked like her and her counterpart looked like her second half
Bea and Allister

and finally returning to be a playable character after 8 years

Fighter pass 5 is most likely
Youmu Konpaku

Bionnic Commando has 7 games released
And 3 Commando games(Commando, Mercs, Wolf of the Battlefield 3) that are part of the same franchise.

We did it, we found the one guy Lesley supports!
They only support Rex because he'd come with Pyra and/or Mythra.

Why do you want your top 3? What reasons are they so high up in your list?
Ryu Hayabusa. Bill Rizer. Arthur.

Same reasons for all 3. They check off my completionist lists.

NES/SNES Classic Editions character? Check. Check. Check.
Nintendo Power 260 character? Check. Check. Check.
Did You Know Gaming banner character? Check. Check. Check.
Super Mario Crossover character? Check. Check. Miss.

Unpopular Smash opinions that I have.
1. Crash would be a poor choice for Smash. I mean what's his appeal? And this is coming from a former fan of his. A better option should be Jak and Daxter.
2. As someone who has been a Smash fan since the N64, the community is trash. When Joker, Hero and Terry were announced, the salt everyone had was atrocious. Plus it seems like Smash players need to play more games other than Nintendo.
3. King Boo would be a hype fighter. Way better than Plant.
4. I want Byleth, Rhea, Edelgard, Claude and Dimitri in Smash
5. Fortnite AND Minecraft should get representation in Smash. They do not deserve the hate they get.
6. As already mentioned, I'm sick of hearing about Doomguy, Hayabusa, Geno and Crash on this forum. Even thought I like Geno and Hayabusa and am so-so about Doomguy. This place needs to talk about more characters instead of these four.
7. I want more characters like Hero. The tricky type that people can't predict.

Bea always reminded me of Toph Beifong.

Now for my own top 3:

Prince of All Cosmos: The Prince would make for an extremely unique and novel character that would bring a lot to the table, and Katamari is one of my absolute favorite franchises. He has great music, colorful designs, and worldwide presence (even if the Prince Himself isn't front-and-center in people's minds like his father is, a lot of gamers are still aware of the series' presence due to its' uniqueness, or at least know the iconic theme song. I'd honestly say he's more well-known than KOS-MOS or Lloyd outside of JRPG communities and the smash community.). Furthermore, his series has made a tremendous comeback with Reroll, is getting more merchandise than ever, and is being featured in Namco content crossovers again. The Prince is a sleeper pick that I think a lot of people would enjoy! Still, I wish that Namco wasn't being so conservative with their character additions. I think most of their frontrunning lineup, including the Prince (along with Lloyd, Heihachi, Agumon, Chosen Undead, and KOS-MOS) would make for some wonderful additions!

The Last Dragonborn: Some people say he's too similar to Hero with mixing magical effects and swordplay, but if people aren't allowed to say another JRPG swordplay character wouldn't add much, then they shouldn't say the same about the Dragonborn. A Western RPG rep and a sort of western warrior character are two things that Smash has yet to explore, and with the relationship between Breath of the Wild and Skyrim, I think the Dragonborn's inclusion would make for a fantastic way to bring it all full circle. Furthermore, via alt costumes and different moves the Dragonborn's customization options could easily be represented, and his shouts would make for an easy to implement gimmick for the character to help him stand out from other weapon users. I absolutely love The Elder Scrolls and it has a legacy going back to 1994 and has been rising ever since. It would be an incredibly worthy addition to the Smash lineup and would bring a lot of fantastic content, and hopefully some Morrowind and Oblivion content as well! This series is fantastic and Smash would be a fantastic way to promote it to Nintendo fans after Skyrim and Blades.

I know a lot of people are banking on Doom Slayer and it is understandable since he's gotten a lot of (albeit multiplatform) ports and has a storied history in gaming that Sakurai himself has mentioned. The big conflict is that he happens to be a Bethesda rep now, and I'd be super open to Doom Slayer if he wasn't in direct competition with Dragonborn. The Elder Scrolls, while seeing its' rise with the third main series game Morrowind in 2001, has continued to rise ever since then with record-breaking sales numbers and is considered the magnum opus of open-world games by many. It is what made Bethesda so successful and is their home-grown franchise. I have a lot of respect for Doom Slayer, but if we're looking at this from a Bethesda standpoint I feel that representing The Elder Scrolls as their first character would be the most appropriate.

Quote: My third most wanted is actually Crash, but he's talked about a ton so I'd rather give Quote the needed attention instead.
Cave Story is my most favorite indie game and one that revitalized the genre. His weapon switching and leveling would make for a fun and novel playstyle and his music is top-notch. If Undertale can get representation in Smash, then I think that one of the games that inspired it should be in, too, regardless of a bad IP owner. When it comes to Indie reps I believe that Smash's first one should be one with legacy before adding more recent indie superstars like Frisk, Shovel Knight, and Hollow Knight. Quote, along with Shantae and Reimu would be excellent candidates, and the first two have a good amount of history with Nintendo. Cave Story has an incredible legacy and I think Pixel has more than earned a spot among a legendary roster.

2. As someone who has been a Smash fan since the N64, the community is trash. When Joker, Hero and Terry were announced, the salt everyone had was atrocious. Plus it seems like Smash players need to play more games other than Nintendo.
While I don't agree with a few points, I totally agree with this one 100%.

I don't think its really unpopular, the fact that some people are still salty or angry over characters they don't know is quite silly considering its only a game and there are over 70 characters already. Some people get blinded by nostalgia and seem to ignore everything that they didn't grew up with which makes it pretty funny when a "unknown" character blindsides them.

Its depressing since there are a few SNK titles released on Switch featuring Terry, that were released quite before Terry was announced. Plus DQ is pretty much a staple on Nintendo systems, its one of the most consistent 3rd parties on the systems. Joker is the most inaccessible one given the 3DS only appearances but it was also one of the most popular games 2 years ago.

That's a sad fact. The community here is blind about other games they may not know exist, and are limited to what they know in-franchise. They need to step up.

Unpopular opinion: A lot of these unpopular opinions are repeats of the same Anti-Smash Bubble Bubble talking points we see almost every day in this thread.
