If I had to make a female only Fighter Pass with the rules: Third Party only, no Echoes, Alts don't count, and must have appeared at least once on a Nintendo console, it would be:
Lara Croft, Chun-Li, Reimu, Shantae, and Arle.
We take that.

We accept that.

Love this one!

Honestly, I've mustered enough confidence to say that if we get a male as FP5, then we'll have an all-female Pass 2 for compensation.

Agree?
"Compensation" isn't going to work if only the receiving party believes they are owed something.

Bruh.

But hey, Shantae is still viable as hell.
I feel like Shantae is contingent upon Shovel Knight. If we get an Indie character, I feel like it'll be him first due to being the "mascot" of Indie games as a whole.
Kinda like how we'd realistically get Crash before Spyro. Same concept.

I wouldn't say I'm in any way confident that would happen, but a lot of my most wanted tend to be female characters, so I'm certainly down for that.
Not that I would ever expect the particular characters I want would make up such a pack, even then.

shantotto looks like the movie sonic.
Now why'd you have to go and say something so hurtful?

But seriously, Shantotto is great. She's the queen of sass, so please don't hate.

We should have gotten Grunty vs. Shantotto. :-(

What would it take for a character to be too violent for Smash?
For me, it depends mostly on the values education of the children.

Japanese children have waayyy larger levels of what is considered mature to them.

Nothing that couldn't be reasonably censored. Bayonetta literally kills angels and gets naked in her games, but she was toned down for Smash.
So for violence to disqualify a character, it would have to be so integral to the character that the character loses its... well, character, without the violence.
I would have said in the past that Mortal Kombat characters fit that description, but then they had a crossover with DC, and now there exists a version of Scorpion without insanely graphic violence.

So right now.... no one.

Funny thing this was brought the other day on one of the Discords I'm in. Closest thing I can think right now is that while we have a few characters from M-rated games, there are no characters from the Japanese rating CERO in regards to adult only games which is a Z-rating. Which games have this rating? Funnily enough, Doom, Ninja Gaiden, Skyrim, Assassins Creed among others. Bayonetta and MGS have the equivalent of the Mature rating which is D, while persona has a 15 yr + rating which is C.

Only reason that I can think of them having that rating is beheadings as RE4 had those censored and they received a lower rating but we have Bayo which I think have those and has also the equivalent to Mature rating so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . Currently it remains to be seen if this is an impediment or something that doesn't really matters for inclusion, but its boring right now and might be a while to see Terry so might be interesting topic or not.

I think it would honestly take something uncensorable. Like, someone who self-mutilates like Victor Zsasz or a more realistic Jedah. I guess dismemberment in general is probably a no-go unless it can be really disguised - I'm talking Joker levels of flair here.

And it would have to be their whole shtick. Characters like Scorpion or Doomguy are fair game because there's plenty they could do aside from Fatalities/Glory Kills.

To add to that, a character whose very design is gory probably fits the bill as well.
Back in the day, Billybo10K dismissed the Google Theory simply due to Artorias missing an arm, though I'd set the bar a little higher.
I cannot think of such a character off the top of my head, but a character that is always depicted bleeding, headless, or with their guts hanging out, that'd be a no-no.
I almost included being impaled, but
Ganondorf in Wind Waker was impaled in the face, but that still got an E rating.

Most of the cast of Outlast would probably hit that mark. A few other horror games too.

Style probably matters a lot too though, as I could see someone like Stitches from WoW, not that he would ever be the WoW rep, granted...

This is obviously never gonna happen (and looking at it, I feel like Smash speculation and wishing has driven me at least a little insane)... but here's a wishlist that I made on the assumption that we're getting 4 more Fighters Passes worth of characters (spoiler-ed so the post isn't too big)...

Unfortunately I don't think Sakurai and Devs care enough about our side of the fanbase to do something like that. I mean, I'd only believe it when I see it.

This line looks very interesting. Nako, Jill, and Akira would be great picks (duh, I've been a Nako supporter ever since I became an SNK fangirl)

It's their decision, I guess. We'll just have to see through it all.

Not really. I can think of a VERY good all female Fighters Pass but I don't think it'll happen.

Lara Croft, Morrigan Aensland, Jill Valentine, Joanna Dark, Reimu, KOS-MOS, Kasumi, Mai, and 2B off of the top of my head. All from different franchises, all with the potential to be unique.

But I gotta be honest with you I don't think the Smash team is looking at the characters as having to fill in a certain criteria. By all means if we get a whole Fighters Pass of Female Fighters, awesome! But I doubt it. I really do. I'm iffy on this last, single character being female anyways, let alone the whole next Pass. The only, the ONLY character I can see actually happening for this last character from the list above is KOS-MOS.

Morrigan is overtly sexualized, Lara or 2B would be the second Square character in the Pass and I don't see that happening, Joanna Dark is Microsoft and I don't see them getting doubles after Banjo-Kazooie, Reimu is incredibly obscure world wide and isn't the only possible choice from her series, Kasumi will probably only follow after Hayabusa if I had to guess, Mai would follow RIGHT after another Fatal Fury character in Terry which seems doubtful, and Jill has competition with Chris AND Leon. KOS-MOS stands out because she's Namco, from a franchise Nintendo has ties with internally, and is one of Namco-Bandai's go to crossover characters.

We'll see but I don't want you to be too upset if this outcome is the case.

It also doesn't help that a LOT of gaming's most iconic women are already in Smash. Samus ×2 (or 3), Peach, Daisy, Zelda, Palutena, hell even ****ing Bayonetta, the most bad ass female protagonist in recent memory. There are great women in gaming left but as of now they look unlikely, at least for this Pass. Not because they're not great choices but just the timing and the circumstances of the Pass kind of go against them.

I think it's just a matter of time before we get Lara at the very least, being as iconic as she is, I say we just wait and watch next Pass unfold. Trust me I know what it's like to wait. Hayabusa has been rumored since Joker's reveal... so since release. I'm dying help.

What if Pac-Man is supposed to be a last name like Hartman or Chapman?
I watch a guy on YouTube named David Packman. His girlfriend is a teacher, so if they get married, her students will call her Ms. Pac-Man.

Keep in mind that Bayonetta is known for being overtly sexual as well and she made it in so I don't think that writes Morrigan off completely outside of potentially covering up her cleavage. The rest I agree with except Jill and KOS-MOS. While Chris and Leon are popular characters, Jill is right up there along with Claire. Between the 4 of them though, Jill has the highest potential when it comes to a moveset due to her apperance in RE5 and having a super human fighting style that would be much more fitting in Smash IMO, something that Chris, Leon, and Claire wouldn't have access to. KOS-MOS is a good character but we can't ignore that she has multiple large IP's under Bandai Namco's belt that would most likely get a higher priority like Tales Of and Tekken.

I watch a guy on YouTube named David Packman. His girlfriend is a teacher, so if they get married, her students will call her Ms. Pac-Man.
Wouldn't that make her Mrs. Pac-Man? :p

You can't deny that was why they put Shulk in.
I'll deny it. I really don't think that Sakurai put in Shulk to advertise/promote Xenoblade Chronicles nor to remind people that the series existed to get a sequel made..its far more likely that he was an ideal character for Sakurai.
- Fresh New IP
- Interesting Gameplay Gimmick
- A game he enjoyed (if I recall correctly).
In regards to the first one, Sakurai likes including newer series since he cheekily made fun of how few new Nintendo series there were in the description for the Brawl All-Star Mode.

I kinda disagree. I man, Shovel Knight is popular..in the West..not as much in Japan (I expect that Undertale would be the Indie Darling series to get a character in the game, it was loved worldwide). I kinda think Shantae is more popular than Shovel Knight is in Japan and, honestly, I'd rather see if Shovel Knight has longevity before he appears in Smash and isn't just a One Hit Wonder since, well, he's only had a single game made thus far.

Last thing we need is a female Link Echo.
*CHP mentions a specific weapon she uses that the Links don't use alongside the fact that Linkle doesn't use swords at all*
"No echo please"

Besides I'm pretty sure Zelda fans would love a fourth Link judging by how much they scream at Fire Emblem fans for saying "We feel 4 Marths isn't the best representation Fire Emblem can have"

IIRC Ganondorfs design in Smash 4 had the wound after he was impaled by Link so I think the limit of m rated characters or higher is if they are so violent they are not allowed to be sold in Japan

Japan's level of violence tolerance is different compared to the West's.

The wound is from the sages' attempt to execute Ganondorf, not from Link.

I swear, whenever I see that artwork I think that he has some very weird tiny feet.

I know that’s the shadow of his hands, but it looks like he has really tiny gross feet. God damn.

Edit: looks like I’m not the only one
It looks like the dude has no chest and beyond for me. Like he's just a floating head and arms with a cape.
