To be fair, I wouldn't be so quick to dunk on the chances of the Sw/Sh starter final evos just yet. I mean, we haven't even seen any of them in action yet, and for all we know, they all could wind up sporting signature attacks and attributes that could lend themselves well to smash movesets. We'll just have to wait and see how they operate in their own games.

Fair enough. But as far as designs go, they aren't giving that much hope, and with how much of an emotional rollercoaster these games have been, I can't help but be rather "skeptical" (for the lack of a better term) with their potential.

You should play Heartgold and soulsilver, that was a truly great remake. It's easily the best Pokemon game ever.

I'm not particularly interested in going back to the DS just to play HG & SS.
I usually play either the original title or its remake/remaster but not both.

Speaking of remakes, are there any you would like to play despite already playing the original and/or vice versa?
Speaking for myself, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is on my "must play" list solely because of the Bionis' Shoulder being added back in.

I never speculate on pokemon in smash because I don't care he makes sense to me because gen 3 hasn't been represented and we don't have a grass type that fights by themselves

Gotta be honest, I’m kind of sick of Pokémon getting added to the main roster. Obviously it’s the biggest(?) media franchise in the world and it deserves a hefty spotlight in Smash, but with each new character it feels less like they’re adding “all-stars” to the roster. Greninja and Incineroar don’t have any special importance to the series (beyond Ash having one of each in the anime), they just feel tacked on to fill a quota.

I’m crossing my fingers for no Gen 8 ‘mons, but I accept that it’s a strong possibility.

Yet again, to address the fighting style comparisons (since it was brought up earlier):

This next part is a huge spoiler, so don't open it unless you want to get spoiled. With that being said: there's another visual similarity between the two that hasn't been addressed here involving their Personas.

Kasumi's 2nd tier Persona looks like a female version of Arsene. It basically has no purpose in the game other than to complete the evolution cycle because shortly after that, it levels up to its true form. The design is suspicious. That is too much of a coincidence. However, I can imagine it having a purpose elsewhere... in Smash.

Or at the very least, it further highlights the similarities between them.

Yu doesn't use a gun, Minato doesn't use his revoker in combat, and neither of them use grappling hooks.

If Smash could get away with no Gen 3 or Gen 5 pokémon or anyone from Echoes, it can do the same for these new games.

Welp, I guess I’ll lower my expectations for this upcoming week too... expecting Terry and potentially a Smash direct with least two more reveals (FP5 and the first post pass character) and any other new features the following week

Smash advertising is fine. 5 games into the series, and it's still not as blatant as PSABR, IMO. I mean... Smash would never do something like pick DMC Dante over the original.

But even still... it's not necessarily a bad thing. The end result is usually a fun character, exposure for a series that could use it, or some combination of the two.

Oh well. Fifteen days doesn't sound like too much to wait. Bad thing about it is that Terry won't be joining the roster until near the end of the month.

That's not necessarily bad news. Slowly but surely, they keep learning about how we keep track of this stuff and then they cover their tracks. But each time they take a step forward, they also take a step back (insert different blunder examples here).

This time, we know he's around the corner because of the site update and the upcoming spirit copyright event thing listing SNK. Next, time it'll be something else that tips us off like an accidental tweet from Nintendo France that gets deleted or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if Terry still drops next week or the week after. Although my prediction has always been mid-November.

They almost always seem to have two adverts. So Terry + Pokemon seems likely for the next one.

Would they really sacrifice advertising for the sake of a surprise? I do see your point though and if Terry's release does follow the next ad switch, it would only become a more reliable method of guessing when a character will drop and maybe that's something they don't want.

Sheesh. What are you going to do when the DLC is completely done? You have a ton of characters to enjoy but you and many others act like you're desperate for new content like a drug addict. Just take things as they come and enjoy what you got.

Assuming that Terry's not releasing within the next two weeks, then I guess we're getting Fighter 5 at The Game Awards.
I was hoping for Fighter 5 in a Nintendo Direct and a formal reveal of a second Fighter's Pass at TGA.
Edit: I guess it's also possible that Terry gets a launch trailer not tied to anything else like Joker was.

Japanese fans don't watch the VGAs, and Sakurai never intended Joker to be revealed there. He's made sure that a character's reveal is accessible worldwide.

Even if it's not at the Game Awards, I could still see Fighters Pass Character 5 being revealed in December, about two months before February 2020 (by which point all the Fighters Pass characters will have been released).

Um actually, Fox was shown off in October/November 2006.

Alright, just want to throw my cents into the whole SS starters situation without derailing the topic much, and without spoiling as well.

To me, these guys are just another reminder as to why I'd rather just keep third-party characters coming. Just look at them, they honestly don't look like fighters, let alone Smash material to me.

Why have these guys when we could have more brand-new franchises with way more credentials than just "new entry of a series everyone is already familiar with"?

Because Pokemon is the biggest franchise in the world, and we've had an entire Fighter Pass of third party characters. Do people really want to turn Smash, which is mainly a Nintendo crossover series, into MUGEN? I'm a firm believer in that you can never have too many Pokemon in Smash. And most of the third party characters that people ask for now feel like reaching the bottom of the barrel. I mean, do we really need another animal platformer mascot character or a violent rooty tooty shooty guy that's basically just a green Samus? I say bring on the Pokemon SwSh representation for Smash Ultimate. And I also find it unfair to say that the starter Pokemon aren't "fighter material". Was Isabelle fighter material? Was Piranha Plant fighter material (no offense to him though)? Was Wii Fit Trainer fighter material? My personal favorite of the starters is Sobble's final evo, although Grookey's final evo would be fantastic in Smash as well.

Unless Sakurai bamboozles all of us and releases Terry during maintenance, I guess this means we're probably in for Terry to drop a few days before American Thanksgiving.

I find it a little hypocritical you're condemning people for wanting "yet another animal platformer mascot character" while at the same time asking for more animal RPG characters from a single franchise which has 10 playable characters.
