Now I firmly believe it is a matter of WHEN he gets in than IF.

I don't believe in patterns like colour theory or "promotion" theory. But it's true that Nintendo promotes Doom a lot, I think that's a fair point for Doomslayer like it was for Hero and Dragon Quest.

You know which franchise Nintendo promotes a lot as well? Resident Evil. I mean, maybe it's me, but for me Nintendo is pushing and promoting a lot the RE5 and RE6 ports for the Switch. I say 'a lot' because in the end these two games are ports from PS3-360. I'm seeing a good amount of tweets from Nintendo these last days for both games.

A 4chan leak I've been clinging to has been saying that Terry's presentation will be on the fifth with Phoenix Wright revealed as Fighter Pass 5 right afterwards. This may be it, folks.

There's also this update to it which is far less likely (the original leak was very simple and bare bones yet to-the-point which ironically boosted its likeliness, plus the easy kill date makes it harmless to believe). Different guy I'm sure but...I want to believe.

I want my favorite lawyer in Smash, but Sephiroth kills this "leak" for me.
His inclusion would conflict with Sakurai's statements in the Banjo presention.

Yeah, Dante has everything, for that reason I think he has good chances for being DLC after his fighter pass.

I really hope for more than 1 Capcom character. I want Dante, but I also want Resident Evil. At the same time I'm starting to enjoy a lot the idea of Wright in Smash. Then there's some unexpected characters like Amaterasu or Morrigan that would be really cool.
Luckily I don't have any interest for Monster Hunter at the moment, but a MH rep is another potential pick.

Let's not forget that Nintendo also dedicated an entire section of their E3 direct to promoting Resident Evil, complete with a special commercial. I'm kinda surprised more people aren't betting on RE considering how prominent the promotion argument is for Doomguy.

I think it's because the frequent presence of Doomguy in 4chan leaks since Ultimate released. Resident Evil characters haven't appeared that much in these random leaks, so some people doesn't have RE in mind.

And yeah, as you said Nintendo focused one section of their E3 about Resident Evil. I still think that was quite strange, when they talked about RE I was expecting a new game (Revelations 3?) or something like that, but not two ports. The set-up felt like something for a new game.

All chips on Phoenix Wright of course but my god can you imagine the Terry stream transitioning into a brawl between him and Ken, and then a team up between them and Ryu, only for them to look up to see the true evil master Heihachi make his way into the fray? So hype.

I came up with an old Evo reveal (before Terry's announcement). I hoped Bandai Namco presented it (to make it seem Tekken related to the crowd), and I imagined the trailer being a bunch of fakeouts like:

Heihachi showing off some fighting moves in a cinematic trailer. New Tekken DLC announcement? Then Link shows up out of nowhere. Soul Calibur 2 HD for Switch? Everyone is confused, but excited. Then Cloud shows up. Is he an alternate costume for Noctis? Then Snake shows up. PlayStation All-stars 2? Then Ryu and Ken show up. Tekken x Street Fighter? What is going on?! Then Pikachu and Lucario. Pokken 2? Then Terry. Is he looking to end Geese's T7 career? Then finally Mario. Oh, it's a Smash trailer.

It's pretty crazy how connected he is with the Smash cast lol. Even more so now that Terry's in (and if we factored in Project x Zone).

No joke, at Evo me and my roommate wondered if there would be a reveal and they turned to me and said "what if the Smash logo hits and this starts playing" and started playing Terry's theme on their phone.

Like, to clarify, I completely understand why Sans overshadowed everything: he's the indie darling and all what with Undertale being more culturally significant than SNK as a whole right now, and the better overlap between the Undertale and Smash scenes than with KOF. They were always gonna get that pop; it still doesn't erase my sentiment that I feel like Terry got robbed of a spotlight for him, and by a character/franchise I've less than positive feelings about.

(Should not be misintepreted as me saying Sans or Undertale don't deserve the reputation. I dislike the game, but it'd be foolish to deny they don't have the pedigree or acclaim - that much I can respect.)

Issues with the list:

• Dragon Quest XI's is referred to as Eleven, not Luminary.
• Dante is strangely missing.
• Why Lana and Linkle? They'd be pretty cool characters gameplay wise but I wouldn't exactly pick them for a list of characters like Spyro, Steve, and Leon. Even the other Nintendo characters are at least relevant or stand on their own merits (Aside from Porky but the demand for Mother 3 could be a reason to add him to it).

Other characters removed include Saki, Lakitu, Magnus, and Elec Man. The latter two were only in 4.
