From what I understand most lords pre-Awakening (including Lyn) are terrible units. I don't remember witch one, but one of the Fire Emblem YouTubers straight up recommended that you don't use them.
Implying Ike can't solo one of his games.

For black and other dark-skinned characters I'd like in Smash, there are quite a few good options:
  • Elma, natch. A fantastic character all around with boatloads of potential.
  • Marina (possibly with Pearl as a duo fighter) as a second Splatoon rep would be awesome especially considering she could bring Octoling and Splatoon 2 weaponry to the fight.
  • Octolings. Speaking of Splatoon 2, it wouldn't be hard to add them with some new weapons and as they have dark-skinned alts just make those the default. Easy.
  • Style Savvy Rep. Again a customizable avatar but she has plenty of skin tones to choose from and her alts should all be unique avatar choices just like Inkling.
  • Twintelle is a cool and popular ARMS rep, which while it is an untested series to an extent is still interesting enough to stick around in the cultural consciousness.
  • Urbosa! People want a new Zelda rep and the Champions are popular - why not a cool Gerudo to help rep another side of the series?
  • Sol Badguy. While he's from the future so it's hard to pinpoint a "canon nationality" for him, he was inspired by Freddie Mercury and has been consistently drawn with a darker shade of skin especially compared to characters like May or Ky.
  • Doc Louis or Mr. Sandman. We may never get Mike Tyson, but either of these guys would make for fantastic additions to Smash as Punch Out reps.
  • Claude von Riegen. While it's hard to pin down which Three Houses Lord would be the one getting into Smash, Claude has as good a shot as Dimitri or Edelgard and is a fun, cool character with sick bow tricks to boot.
  • K'. Sure, another SNK rep isn't very likely, but I had to shout-out my boy and one of the protagonists of the KOF series.
  • CJ or Big Smoke (GTA San Andreas). Not exactly likely but CJ is one of GTA's best protagonists and Big Smoke is popular as well.
This is a small sample and I'm sure there are more. Some may be more likely than others, but they're all interesting potential picks. The thing is, just like with wanting more female characters, roster variety is important. Not just from a representation standpoint (which is absolutely important don't get me wrong) but also just from a variety standpoint. A diverse cast makes for a diverse roster, and in turn makes for a far more interesting game to look at and learn. That's all part of the Smash appeal - seeing wildly different icons with wildly different styles and designs clashing.

That's another fantastic point. Impa that plays like Hyrule Warriors but looks like Skyward Sword would be such a badass addition to the roster. Super "deserving" too for those who care about that as she's one of the few recurring Zelda characters still not in the game.

I'm sorry if my post seem offensive,
i only wanted to clarify that touhou is not just some girl kawaii anime / game thingy, it could lead to misinformation of the series as a whole for people who are researching it for smash or other thing.
i don't think too much about what character other people play, heck every game i have. i always to try every character.

again sorry if my post seem offensive, and have a good day/night.
It's okay! There was nothing wrong or offensive about your comment. I just looked at the touhou series from a negative bias so I'm wrong about it no matter what and I just see Reimu as more of a cute anime girl regardless of her personality.

Speaking of Fire Emblem, I'm surprised that the other two Lords of 3H don't have support threads, especially since last I checked Dimitri was apparently the 8th-most popular Nintendo character of some poll.

That's the power of FE backlash, I guess, but still.
That's the weird thing about Edelgard, she's incredibly divisive among Fire Emblem fans. Without going into too much detail for spoilers, she's easily the most morally grey lord that Fire Emblem has ever gotten, and she's up there with Arvis from Genealogy in terms of being the most morally grey character in the entire series. As such, people either think she's an intelligent character who's willing to do what others can't, or she's morally reprehensible and only gets a free pass thanks to waifuism.

From what I understand most lords pre-Awakening (including Lyn) are terrible units. I don't remember witch one, but one of the Fire Emblem YouTubers straight up recommended that you don't use them.
It's not necessarily true that every lord pre-Awakening was a bad unit. Marth, Hector, Ephraim, and Ike are all considered relatively good, while Sigurd is considered one of the best characters in the series. That being said, Lyn is usually up there with Roy and Leif when it comes to bad lords. Not only does she never get access to decent 1-2 range, but her low strength and defence growths make her very hit or miss when it comes to combat. She's basically outclassed by Guy in everyway, and Guy's not really great himself. The only thing that Lyn really has going for her is the Mani Katti, but that's not enough to really save all of her faults.

Ike is a ****ing beast in his games, or at least he was when I played Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.

Well there's Claude, who's certainly a shade darker than the other 2 Lords.
That art is so cool.
I really love their timeskip designs, they look great, specially Dimitri, who looks like a true badass.

My idea for Lyn's overall moveset concept would be that she's the yang to Marth's yin. No, she's not an Echo Fighter, lemme explain.

Marth uses a sword with power concentrated at the tip (to reference the rapiers many Lords start out with). Marth is about spacing.

Lyn, however, uses a katana. Katanas are wielded by unsheathing, striking very fast, then sheathing. Due to the inherent startup and endlag, Lyn would be about timing instead of spacing.

She'd be kind of like a mix of Marth and Meta Knight, where, like Marth, most of her attacks are simple, one-hit attacks, and like Meta Knight, her attacks are very quick and only last a measly 1 or 2 active frames. Those 1-2 active frames would hurt, though. Katana users have to hit as hard as they have to hit fast, after all. Speaking of fast, Lyn is very fast in her game, so in Smash I think she'd have mobility comparable to Sheik or Greninja, meaning she'd be the fastest overall Fire Emblem character.

Man, this is why I don't like talking about Lyn. I get excited at how she would play in Smash, then I make myself sad knowing that, at this rate, she's probably never getting in since her game is pretty old by now.
I always imagined Lyn's moveset like this and I think it would be really cool.
But yeah, at this point Lyn's chances are very very low. The only scenario where I can see her making it is when Intelligent Systems decides to remake FE7. But the next one should be FE4 if they're going in order so FE7 remake won't happening soon.

I'm an Eileen main, but I'd be lying if I didn't say my secondary didn't have the more interesting fighting style. She is the only character I can think of with a stance change that sounds like it's beating up the opponent when she initiates it. It's fitting because she was the first character in the game to use two whole fighting styles. I like how her hits have a lot of weight to them; she realistically looks and feels like one of the strongest characters in the game. I usually avoid grapplers, but the fact that she can combo you into her grabs and then proceed to pummel afterwards, and grapple you while she chills on the ground was hard to pass up. Her reversals are brutal. Visually, she fights like a UFC character, which was rare for a fighting game and a stark contrast to most of the cast's kung fu/martial arts. Whoever designed her initially was like "Let's just make the coolest character we can imaginable, and roll with it." Oh, and she's black.

But alas, as mentioned earlier, we'd get other VF reps before Vanessa (or Eileen) because the universe is cruel.

I'd say no she's a melanated woman but she ain't black
Well yeah, she's technically not any race. But my head canon is that she chose the form of a black woman.

As far as potential PoC characters in Smash, my personal favorite pick would be Claude. While Edelgard is my preferred pick for a newcomer, if we somehow got Claude I'd still be totally happy (easily one of my top five favorite lords in the series). Not only is he a great character, but he could carry on Decidueye's legacy of a full bow fighter. :p

He's also great because you very rarely see Middle Eastern video game characters that actually play a major role, especially in Nintendo games. The Gerudo don't really count since they're more of a hodgepodge of different Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures, so beyond that it's pretty much just like...Bald Bull. And that's it.

Meanwhile Claude is pretty deeply rooted in ancient Persian, Assyrian, and Turkish origins, which is neat to see, especially since that's not something Fire Emblem usually bases itself in.

Claude's great.

So I see no one has shared this yet.

The new Spirit event has copyrights for SNK and is the first event period since September to have these.

Terry imminent?

Well, my prediction was always the 13th, with the 5th being the shocking pick. Also because I just really wanted to believe in Phoenix Wright.

Terry soon...I wouldn't bank on sooner than next week but a shadow drop on the 31st would be spectacular.

The legendary hungry wolf releasing on the day of Halloween would be very fitting. Hopefully the servers don't get power geyser'd whenever he gets released.

Representation in Smash has always been kind of a weird topic. I do consider diversity in media (not necessarily in regards to the cast of one work, but media as a whole) important, but since Smash is a crossover game, the lack of black or dark skinned characters is more of a symptom of a problem that Smash isn't directly responsible for. There's just kind of a lack of (human) gaming icons, particularly from Japan, that aren't white, Japanese, or white-coded, which does suck, but I guess there's not much that Smash can do about it. If this was an original fighting game with an original cast, it'd be a different story.

That aside, CJ (or any GTA character) would be amazing. I want a character that just fights in a goddamn car.
So I see no one has shared this yet.

Weren't the Dragon Quest spirits secretly viewable on the site before Hero released? Wonder if people will be able to find the SNK spirits soon.

Claude's great.
To make Claude even better, he's actually good representation. A middle-eastern friend of mine loathes the Gerudo because they're not representative at all but merely fetishizations. Claude's certainly not lacking in sex appeal but his entire race isn't coded to be fetishized

On one hand we may get Terry sooner than expected and I'll be over the moon.

On the other hand, this means the Phoenix Wright leak is fake. :(

Great googly moogly, if they shadow drop Terry this week, I don't even knoooow... Heck, I'll even take next week. I wish I kept track of DLC spirit data timeframes or whatever lol. I expected mid-November at best. I still do... kinda.

Friday is Nov. 1st worldwide, but will the madmen really drop it so soon? I know Sakurai said they're getting this done faster than expected, but hot dang.

I want to make a Terry only Arena a day or two after his release (because the shop will crash when he first drops). Everyone is welcome, but I especially want to play with the SNK fans on here, because we'd probably be slightly better straight out of the gate.

Also... Claude had the best final boss theme. Just saying.

Times like this is when lawyers need to show their biggest smiles Flyboy
We would need Terry's codename to be able to look them up, anyhow.

Don't lose hope, man.
Of course! The only time a lawyer can cry is when it's all over!

Honestly just being able to finally play as Terry and see his new stage and do all the Spirit battles has me so hyped. I really hope we get a video presentation soon.

I hesitate to think they'd release Terry on a major release day like tomorrow with Luigi's Mansion 3, but Friday could be a possibility. Be pretty baller. At this point I'm betting next week is the latest.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Terry too.

Doh I used my 15€ eshop card on Undertale already and don't have enought golden points for Terry right now.

I’d like to add Shantae to this list. If we want to include all POC like Asians, Chun-Li and Mai Shiranui would be good picks as well, in addition to Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, Kasumi/Ayane from Dead or Alive, and Reimu from Touhou.

I mean, they quite explicitly said that Terry would release in November. and unless I seriously forgot how calendars work, October 31st is not in November. Just a hunch.

It seems Terry would be revealed tomorrow and released the day after.

Or at least I heard so.

I mean, they also said BK for fall and released them technically in the summer. Not exactly the same but still.

I mean. . . I wouldn't mind it, but there isn't exactly much October left for them to do a surprise reveal. Especially in Japan.

I think #5 will go over well. All the names I've heard may not be often requested but all signs right now point to the bonus characters being mostly on par with Banjo in terms of fanservice. Yeah, there could still be curve balls (including one potential one that might as well be a sign of the End Times) but currently it looks like Sakurai was very serious of bringing in more fan requests for wrapping up the roster. That said, I really wouldn't stress the coming days too much.
In a good way like "HAHA, Oh wow... I never would have considered that!" That said, it's just a name that's come up and most people don't take it super seriously to begin with but, unlike PP, I think people would see it as trolly in a good way. It's a stretch but I'm putting it out there that there's probably going to be at least one character that people weren't counting on.
This is interesting, Fatmanonice was thinking that the post fighters pass fighters may be fanservice just like the first three DLC fighters in ssb4 are veterans which means also fanservice, but Fatmanonice's unexpected fighter thoughts made me think about Sylux being the most unexpected fighter.

Any thoughts?
