All responding "yep" conveys is willingness, not action or inaction. Being fine with something is hardly an inherent corollary with it not being in the works.

The infrequency of Spencer addressing the topic changes none of that, especially given he had nothing new for disclosure. The fact that he even responded twice is above and beyond what most devs do.

Nobody knows, all we know is that Blizzard is using Smash to get a potential sales boost, the Switch version released next week after all and DMC also used Smash to get attention

buddy, your point was addressed. grant kirkhope isnt a developer saying to nintendo, "please take my stuff and put it into smash". when looking at other devs with similar statements, like 343, cuphead, and KH; my point stands.

Do any of you imagine the possibility that we might get an entire Smash direct in November that talks about Terry while also revealing who fighter five is? We talked about the Game Awards being an event where a reveal might happen. But what if fighter five is revealed in a November direct while the first fighter of the second wave of DLC is revealed at the Game Awards?

I could actually very well see a November Direct happening. I know these kinda patterns generally don't mean anything, but that'd be a nice mirroring of the final pre-release Direct last year.
And as for Game Awards, am I the only one who sees a reveal there not happening? Joker was the odd one out in terms of reveals, even Sakurai noted that. Especially since that event isn't really in the eyes of Japanese fans.

I think Smash was the only reason ALOT of ppl (including myself) watched the game awards last year. id love if they did another reveal there

It might not happen, but "because we expected it" won't be the reason. We expected reveals at E3 and during the September Direct, and were correct about both of those. If it doesn't happen, it'll just be because Nintendo has a different schedule in mind.

But it could, because it lines up fairly well reveal/release-wise with the end of the pass. Or maybe even the beginning of the future DLC.

so this does prove my point; this interview essentially confirmed that SNK wouldn't be in the base roster of Ult. Nintendo probably didn't approach SNK for Terry at that time

In some of the 2108 Japanese panels for Builders 2 and DQ11S, the producers actually did mention Smash unprompted.

So I don’t think that means anything definitive for their chances.

Terry was probably negotiated at the time of the interview.

Tracer probably isn't DLC Fighter #5, cuz Blizzard probably would've just stayed mum and waited for the character to drop to hype up Overwatch Switch sales. But the spot for DLC Fighter 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, however many Sakurai does, are still open for her (or another Overwatch character)

Apparently Blizzard said Nintendo could use whatever character they want for Smash. At least that's what I recall.

So we're talking about Tracer again? When are we gonna learn that not everything that comes out of a person/company/uncle's mouth means they're confirmed in Smash? Sometimes speculation is insufferable. I'm so glad Terry was the oddball the community needed.

Siegfried is the protagonist of the series and if we take all the characters who came first to represent their series, you'll notice a pattern that it's the protagonist that gets chosen first regardless of their status as the mascot or not.

Yes even Pikachu if you count him as the protagonist of Pokemon Yellow so that's why I think Siegfried would be chosen over Nightmare

Nightmare is:

- More unique looking compared to Siegfried
- The logo/mascot
- More recognizable
- Has access to more potential moves than Siegfried (like a recovery move based on Night Terror)

There is absolutely no way they would choose Siegfried over Nightmare.

Now we're talking. Because if there's one Overwatch character that seems tailor-designed to be in Smash, it's most certainly not Tracer.

All of that is true but I'm thinking Nightmare would be more of an Arsene kind of ability for Siegfried where the more he fights the more he becomes consumed by evil and turns into Nightmare because his sword slowly turns into the Soul Edge. Again I'm not too familiar with Soul Calibur so this may not be 100% correct.

McCree would be a really cool addition. I'd love a cowboy archetype in Smash. I don't know what other character besides him could represent the genre in gaming, unless Dillon or John Marston got in (both unlikely to me).

I think the best compromise is to just have SCII design Nightmare, which was Siegfried when he was wielding Soul Edge.

SC4 Nightmare with SC4 Siegfried as his alt. So we get both the Soul Edge and the Soul Calibur in the game.

I liked D. Va when I played Overwatch but I don't get why some people think she would fit Smash better than Tracer. Maybe I'm missing something, of course, but I don't know, I think both characters would be equally easy (or hard) to translate to Smash.

Genji or Doomfist I definitely see them being more 'easy' to bring into Smash in terms of mechanics and moves.
