SC4 Nightmare with SC4 Siegfried as his alt. So we get both the Soul Edge and the Soul Calibur in the game.
It would be nice to have both of them, but I feel like Siegfried would have to be an echo at the bare minimum if he was going to work. Siegfried and Nightmare have similarities in play style but they also have a lot to set them apart, especially in the later games.

Belt theory.
Every fighter in the fighters pass wears a belt, so any belt wearing characters you want as a fighter?
Not to sound biased but uhhhh

Sure, but Smash doesn't have to represent that.

Ken is less different than Ryu in Smash than he is in later SF games.

But yes, an echo would be fine too.

I liked D. Va when I played Overwatch but I don't get why some people think she would fit Smash better than Tracer.
Because she's the video gamer. And Smash is the video game ABOUT video games.

She's one of my favorite Garou characters. I hope she's in the next KOF via time shenanigans.
She doesn't need time shenanigans. KoF isn't in the same continuity as Garou. And several Garou characters(including Jenet) have already been in KoF.

Oh, but didn't you see the video? Rex has two belts. Clearly the superior belt master.
Sure Rex wears two belts but...

Ragna has four belts, therefore Ragna is in Smash Bros! (Credit for this fanart goes to "dinmoney" on Deviant Art.)

Oh man we out here talking about belts now?

I guess this is a good time to bring up Atelier Ryza since Ryza's got 2 belts.

It's highly unlikely for Atelier to get in Smash before Ninja Gaiden and Dynasty Warriors, but somewhere down the road, it'd be cool if Sakurai were to give Gust and this series a spotlight in Smash. Ryza in particular might have a strong case going for her over other protagonists since she looks to be very popular, and it was reported that the game has topped over 150k copies in Japan within the first week, which apparently makes it the best launch week for an Atelier game ever.

Belts you say? Can't believe we figured out that Lulu from Final Fantasy X is joining Smash!

On a serious note, Tetsuya Nomura loves adding belts to his characters. There is a reason why TV Tropes considers him to be the very embodiment of Too Many Belts.

The fact that you also failed to address my point and jumped straight to insulting me speaks volumes about your argument and your personal character. At At the end of the day we're speculating a video game, there's no need to get so riled up about it.
But since you're wrong and I'm right, I have to express dominance. No hard feelings, kid.

How is this game? i remember going into an atelier frenzy in the playstation 3, Rorona, Totori, meruru, Ayesha, Escha Logi and Shallie... but then i kinda slightly burned out with the series yearly releases , plus i played the First minutes of atelier sophie and remember finding it uglier than atelier shallie ._. Plus the DUSK saga was by far my favorite, combining Hidari's art which i adore, a sightly darker tone, and toning down the Moe slightly to more acceptable levels... which also added to my dissapointment with sophie (probably i will retake it fter 3 houses and yakuza though)

At least Atelier Ryza screenshots looks pretty.

Anyway super unlikely, but i would adore an alchemist from the atelier series, (bonus ponits if it pulls a belmot, or an hero) i really enjoyed tons teh crafting system and the calendar system, and whenever i think about game concepts, i always come back to the lighearted alchemy crafting of teh series... Plus i love alchemy...

(and i really like the music DX)

I really wold love if they drop the yerly release model... Atelier sophie really felt like it could had used some extra time in the oven.

From the article:

Guilty Gear loves its belts. Sol Badguy alone has at least 20 on his costume, and his rival, Ky Kiske, has around the same number. Also, every playable character except Justice, Anji and Baiken has at least 3 belts with them.

Here comes the BADGUY!!!

Well the game isn't out in the West until the end of October, so I can't really touch on that part. Ryza does look really appealing (and yeah I won't lie it's because she looks super cute and rocking that thigh game), so I certainly am interested on how the game turns out and might buy it 1 day. Though I've never played any of the games before, my uncle did own multiple Atelier games like Rorona and Totori, and I did play Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate and thought Sterkenburg was the coolest dude in the game next to Hayabusa. The music is also pretty damn good, so I'm certainly hoping for Atelier to somehow find its way in Smash even with the odds stacked against it.

It's crazy when I think about it. If this was pre-Terry reveal/more DLC coming announcement, I would've not considered Atelier at all and disregarded it because of how niche it is and the fact that Koei-Tecmo has bigger franchises, but now, I'm actually rooting for an Atelier rep in Smash. It'd be 1 hell of a timeline if Koei-Tecmo got 3 reps with each of them also repping different developer studios: Omega Force, Team Ninja, and Gust.

Oh my god... all this time discussing Hayabusa, Doomguy, and everyone else, we overlooked the true fifth character....

In honor of the new season, I'm going to shamelessly promote my biggest pipe dream:

Steal that 5th spot! She's capable of casually stealing the Statue of Liberty, so I hope she'd have a ridiculous move like being able to steal a stage platform or something. Although realistically, she should at least be able to take items from other characters just by walking pass them.

What none of you considered is the fact that all these belts can only mean something: we thought Sakurai was making Smash, but it was Nomura all along!

I liked D. Va when I played Overwatch but I don't get why some people think she would fit Smash better than Tracer. Maybe I'm missing something, of course, but I don't know, I think both characters would be equally easy (or hard) to translate to Smash.
Tracer is certainly the face and mascot of the game, but it could be argued that D.Va is by and large the most popular. And I've actually put a decent amount of thought into why she would work best.

maxresdefault.jpg

First, her MEKA. Due to her mech, she'd be a heavy-hitter, slow but powerful, with some Snake-like missiles for zoning and some turret arms for light punchy combos. You would be able to change the direction on her Rocket Boost, allowing for either a K. Rool-level recovery or a quick-but-risky dash across the screen.

She even has her own reflect in the form of her Defense Matrix, which could absorb front-facing attacks (maybe even to heal health). However, while you would still be able to move while using Defense Matrix, it would also leave you unable to attack for a certain amount of time while also leaving you vulnerable to attacks from the top and back, so it would be more of a high risk/high reward situation to prevent it from being too annoying.

DVa_007-1024x640.jpg

But here's the fun bit: When her MEKA accumulates too much damage (or maybe when a meter fills up since Smash Ultimate loves its meters), she's forced to evacuate and attack on foot. When out on her own, D.Va would be a lot faster and have a much smaller hitbox, but her attacks wouldn't do as much damage and she would be knocked back a lot further. This would be a mechanic that we haven't really seen before: a heavy who tries to kill as fast and early as possible before growing weaker as they accumulate damage.

Maybe, when given a certain amount of time, D.Va would be able to recall her MEKA and regain her strengths, so it becomes a test of stamina for both fighters: D.Va needs to get the KO before she loses her mech, while her opponent needs to survive long enough to either kill her MEKA or until she's more vulnerable out of her MEKA.

Her final smash could just be that incredible Play of the Game screen, using her MEKA's self-destruct to blow up anyone within a certain radius.

1515417547_DVa_uprising_selfie.gif

Maybe it's all too gimmicky, and I'm very obviously not a fighting game developer haha, but I think her mech really opens up a lot of interesting playstyles that Sakurai would love to toy with. Don't get me wrong, Tracer's Recall does, too, but we already kind of did the whole "time manipulation" thing with Shulk and Bayo, and I don't see how a Smash character could literally rewind time without being straight up broken.

Doomfist would be dope and obviously fit the whole "fighting game" style the best out of Overwatch's roster, but I don't know if he's enjoying the same level of popularity that D.Va is.

(Plus, this may be the closest we'll get to having someone akin to Tron Bonne in Smash, and that's more than enough for me!)

EDIT: Gah, nevermind...she doesn't wear a belt...move along, folks, nothing to see here :(

Aside from being stupid, Belt """"Theory"""" is flat out wrong.

Shujin school uniforms have suspenders, not belts.

I am pretty sure it is confirmed that every dlc character coming is going to have a belt, even pirahna plant has to wear a watch belt to hold his pot up.

YoRHa Type A. Number Two

What do you mean she’s cosplaying as Nier? I don’t remember who NieR is nor does anyone else like Kainé.

For me this sounds like Nintendo don't have any plans for an OW character in Smash. At least for now.

Honestly I don't think Sakurai would go with Overwatch if we're gonna get a Blizzard rep, knowing him he would pick a rep from some of the franchises that made Blizzard what it is. And I'm not a hater of Tracer or anything, in fact Overwatch is the only Blizzard game I've played in my life.
I mean, you say that, but Atlus' character is Joker rather than a Megami Tensei/Shin Megami Tensei character.

Sol is character #5 then. People please stop with the stupid theories and do something productive.

I still think color theory will be right but just because the colors can be rather arbitrary.
And I also believe the next fighter will be a gunner due to variety.
So it'll be Doom Slayer with an orange background.

I missed the boat by a couple pages (and a couple dozen belts), but it's never too late for a wishlist!

Top 5 most wanted 3rd Party characters:

1. Master Chief (Doom Slayer would be a reasonable alternative)
2. Leon S. Kennedy (actually Wesker, but don't want to get my hopes up as it will not happen)
3. Ashen One (Chosen Undead, but cooler)
4. Phoenix Wright
5. Hollow Knight

Top 5 most wanted 1st Party Characters:

1. Skull Kid
2. Wolf Link and Midna
3. Kass (or Urbosa)
4. Phantom Ganondorf (Wind Waker)
5. Tetra

Characters I actively don't want:

1. Steve (honestly, just a holdover from the thought that he might "take" Banjo's place, but I'd get over his inclusion pretty quickly)
2. Sora (Never played the games and I don't need another excuse to check them out. I'm sure I'd enjoy them, but don't need another time sink on my hands)
3. Lloyd (never cared for him, but also same reasoning as Sora)
4. Chris Redfield (Shoulda been Jill/Leon/Wesker/even Claire)
5. Tails/Shadow (Shoulda been Dr. Robotnik)

I think it's pretty obvious how narrow my interests are lol. But please Sakurai, for the love of Hylia, just give me a Zelda character. (It's been 18 ******* years)
