Man, maybe not anytime soon, but I'd love it if we got a version of Ultimate with more first party characters from existing franchises. Perhaps a port on the next nintendo console but it just continues the same game we got already with more content.

- Mario: Waluigi (Reverse AT status)
- Yoshi: Kamek
- DK: Dixie
- Zelda: Skull Kid/Midna
- Star Fox: Krystal
- Earthbound: Porky (I actually think he has a shot now though)
- Kirby: BWD
- Xenoblade: Elma/Rex

And new 1st party franchises:

- Sin and Punishment: Saki
- Custom Robo: Ray 01
- Golden Sun: Isaac/Felix (reverse AT status)
- Rhythm Heaven: Conductor/Chorus Kids
- ARMS: Spring-Man/Ribbon Girl (Reverse AT status)

Like, I'm SUPER excited for additional DLC, but man Nintendo still has some killer characters from new or existing franchises they can dabble in. I do hope its not entirely 3rd party. Corrin was a brand new 1st party character as DLC last game, they can still do this, even if its just a few.

I'm not sure how long Sakurai wants to keep making smash, but many of the above characters have been wanted for years too. Saki and Ray 01 IMO just need to be immortalized in Smash like Little Mac has been. Many secondary characters from franchises we do have should be in the series. I have slight hope that Sakurai/Nintendo knows this. They shouldn't give up on their in-house franchises.
Throw in Andy in there as well. Given his franchise extends to the NES era.

Oh man. I'd watch to see how the West would react to either of the 3 being in Smash, especially Marie Rose.

Jesus, you hate his inclusion that much?
You're absolutely correct. Now behold my true and honest ultimate reason why:
Joker/Ren doesn't need his inclusion. And I don't need to explain why.
And that's it.

Man, if only Persona 5 was one of the best reviewed games of the current generation and more than worthy of entering some kind of 'new canon of video games'

Yeah, you don't.

You can just say "I hate Joker" and save everyone from a meaningless argument. No need to act like your opinions are facts.
We gotta get 5 posts about why he isn't Iconic before he says that

I think that if we are getting a Koei Tecmo rep it would probably be Ryu Hayabusa.
If Kasumi or someone else got in before Hayabusa I'd probably actually lose my marbles. SammyClassicSonicFan style. "You frickin fricks" would fill the boards.

Truth be told we've lost "X characters needs/deserves to be in Smash" long ago. Now that the roster is getting to ridiculous sized levels.

Yeah you don't, we know the reason is your own personal bias treated as if it's a fact by you.

Several people have told you why Joker makes sense, but you've neglected to listen to anything people have said because it doesn't fit your warped standards from your own personal ill-informed echo chamber.

Also, no one needs Smash, it's a videogame and the word need is extremely subjective.

You aren't Nintendo, Sakurai, or anyone working on the game, please stop acting like you know everything and stop treating your opinions as if it's a fact.

That's all from me.

Even more reason for you not to complain about one measly inclusion you don't agree with in a roster that size.
Pay no mind to him, he’s a troll.

I’ll be honest, not a persona or joker fan myself but I was happy for his fans that he got included in smash.

Oooh Idolm@ster's a fun one I haven't seen mentioned at all. It did get that DS exclusive game. Haruka's entire moveset would radiate personality with how many dance moves she could throw out.
The reactions would certainly be interesting for sure...

I got it for the song and the fact that Sans doesn’t really look like a Mii fighter with the mask covering his whole head. It also helps that he normally doesn’t seem to emote much, so the lack of expression isn’t weird. I hadn’t even created a Mii fighter before this because I think they look silly and I didn’t want them on the character select screen, but this got me to do it. Since I don’t use the Miis for anything but him, it feels like a unique moveset.

I’d love for them to do more like this but I think you need a character of a very specific stature with very specific traits. Skull Kid is the only one right now that does it.
I've actually been playing a lot of Mii Brawler Skull Kid lately and yeah it really does work. Like you, I also rarely use Mii Fighters, so it does feel like he's his own character in a weird way. It helps that the Skull Kid costume is easily one of the best by a mile.

I was one of the early "Skull Kid for Smash!" believers, so while this isn't exactly what I was hoping for, it scratches that itch a little bit.

But I 100% agree, I'd love more fully-masked Mii costumes.

They really should do more Mii costumes that cover the whole face. Chibi robo is an example of a costume that would have been much better that way. Right now it just look silly.

I found this interesting list about references to the Touhou Project. There were some big references like TV channels, World of Warcraft, Undertale, and League of Legends. At the very least this should help against the argument that Touhou is too niche and unknown for Smash.

It just doesn't feel complete without them.

Everything in the game pre-DLC had a Spirit, and some DLC content is getting Spirits, but other DLC content isn't. And they DO periodically add additional Spirits(Mario Party, Labo, Link's Awakening, etc.) So if they're going to add music from franchises that are otherwise totally unrepresented in Smash, I don't know why they couldn't throw in some Spirits too.

Spirit battles don't seem like much effort is required given that they're made up entirely of pre-existing assets. Characters already in the game, with modifiers that are already in the game, on a stage that's already in the game, with music that's already in the game, using a jpeg that was probably made a decade ago.
Nintendo likely realized one thing though: Spirits are completely borken. And it's not just Spirit combinations (like One Punch Mac) that's broken. Spirit-related currency (SP) can also be easily broken and turned into an unstoppable snowball of gaining infinite currency.

There is one main reason for this: you can sell Spirits twice. Once by Dismissing (which gives you the Spirit's core and some SP depending on the Spirit's Stars.) And next, by selling the Spirit's core by going into the Inventory - > Items menu and selling the core there. You can get a very early 3 Star Spirit or a max level 2 Star by just beating 10-15 spirits in WoL and selling them (plus unlocking two fighters). Either of those allow you to beat more Spirits, means more sold, means more SP to upgrade or buy more powerful Spirits, rinse, repeat. Soon you'll have at least one broken Spirit combo and WoL's difficulty snaps.

No wonder Ninty just gave up on balancing Spirits and A) made it so DLC spirits are given to you without that minigame, and B) made it so you could get a very powerful Spirit by just getting a 3-7 win streak on Spectate. Oh, and you can also buy SP from Spectate.

Also, Spirits are not the only way to promote something - Sans' Mii Costume did an excellent job of that by just being announced. So yeah, Spirits have become completely optional.

This is a funny thought that suddenly came to me regarding additional DLC.

Imagine if we got King Mickey as a fighter...

...With Sora as a Mii costume. :troll:

Man the salt that'd spawn. :joyful:
This is only acceptable under the condition that he gets Stopza, it works EXACTLY like it does in KH, and that it's his neutral special.

I would love to have Haruka, although I don't know her very well.

Which emphazises my point. Not everyone needed to be added.
I agree with you.

Yeah, they should add a larger head option to some of the costumes, would help sell the illusion of playing as them.
Also, if the Switch had a Mii sharing system so we can use the ones in the trailers more easily that would be great.

Okay, but, like, none of that matters though. Nobody uses Spirits outside of WoL and they never did. They're just a cool thing that's easy for Nintendo do make that lets them represent things in Smash that they normally wouldn't. They are literally just the evolved form of Trophies. And any character important enough to make any kind of appearance in Smash deserves to have one. ALONGSIDE their other, more important inclusion. No instead of.

Also, Spirits are not the only way to promote something - Sans' Mii Costume did an excellent job of that by just being announced. So yeah, Spirits have become completely optional.
Optional for the players to engage with, yes. They always were. They shouldn't be optional for Nintendo to include alongside other content.

Yeah, they should add a larger head option to some of the costumes, would help sell the illusion of playing as them.
Well, it's not just that a larger head is needed. Lots of Mii costumes are just a helmet or wig that still shows off your Mii's normal face.

You need more full sized helmets that completely replace the Mii's head.

Not to mention, pretty sure Sans's body is unique as well. As he has a paunchyness that the Mii's don't normally have.

It's basically a completely new model, split into two parts. Which is what makes it look like it actually IS Sans, instead of just somebody cosplaying as Sans.

But don't you get it? If character x weren't in the game, then my favorite would totally be in and not a different character! Character x stole my character's spot in the game! Therefore I am entitled to hate them with every fiber of my being and must scream my hate to the heavens!

CHARACTER X IS A BIG FAT DOODOO!

To be fair, Piranha Plant damn sure stole SOMEBODY'S slot.

Honestly there's a part of me that really wants to see a Pyramid Head Mii costume just for the reactions. I doubt Silent Hill will get a playable fighter as much as I love that series, but it'd be really funny to me if you could just put a big ass Pyramid over your Mii's head

The argument behind "slots" falls apart because Sakurai has a reason behind including every fighter. He's not filling any arbitrary roster slots; every roster inclusion is purposeful.

Take Piranha Plant for example. He says this about Piranha Plant's inclusion:
Sakurai said:
I’m actually not paying too much focus on the surprise element when we introduce a new fighter. The surprise element quickly fades once the announcement has been made. Rather, I believe it’s important to have a good balance as a game...if we don’t have these types of fighters, and we only had typical “hero/heroine” type fighters in the lineup, there’s not much difference. It’s probably not very interesting. Correct?

Also, unlike some main characters from some (not widely known) franchises, Piranha Plant is a character everyone knows well.
Piranha Plant being added wasn't to fill a "surprise" quote, nor were they a barrier to another character's inclusion. Those characters wouldn't have been added regardless. It's not like it was between Piranha Plant and another character, it wasn't even a competition. You can apply this same argument to any other character on the roster, be it Ridley, Simon, Joker, Terry, etc.

People are free to disagree with Sakurai's reasoning, but they ought to at least respect it. In his classic words: "Have (they) ever made a game?"

At the very least there are better ways to express dissatisfaction than throwing tantrums like a child. This isn't directed at you but I think we all know at least one person this applies to.

Well then it was a bad reason, and I won't pretend it's good just because it's Sakurai.

Piranha Plant being added wasn't to fill a "surprise" quote, nor were they a barrier to another character's inclusion.
Those development resources would have gone to SOMEBODY else. They wouldn't have just disappeared into thin air.

How can a bunch of codes can steal anything?
Have you even SEEN The Matrix?!

Pyramid Head would make an excellent Assist Trophy.

How can a bunch of codes can steal anything? People need to stop having vendettas with fictional characters.
HEY! I will have you know that virus on my computer that made porn windows pop up every 20 minutes stole precious time from my day and all of the data on my 5th grade laptop! I had Microsoft Word documents with...STUFF on them and this virus code stole that! It was totally a big deal!

Wait, you're talking about Smash characters. Whoops.

Seriously. This is funny fighting party game. I get most people have emotional investment into these characters, but it's nothing personal, and it's not life or death. There's more to life than Smash Bros. It took me a while to learn this lesson, but I believe it to be the true path to enlightenment.
