The Japanese version is different, though. Apparently, Sothis says something along the lines of "And you call yourself a man?!" Evidently, Byleth had been working on their Hotel Mario impression.
Oh that's even funnier!

Sothis: And you call yourself a man?!?
Byleth: Well yes, but actually no.

Think I’ll wait for the latter, hmu when it’s available
Ya know, all the lust for Sephiroth initially caught me a little off guard (not sure why), but after watching the trailer a few times I'm like "...you know, he actually is kinda sexy", which is a first for me to genuinely say about a fictional character.

I suppose that should have been expected from gaming's original heartthrob. lol

Melee: Mr. Game & Watch
Brawl: Olimar
For: Shulk
For DLC: Bayonetta
Fighter Pass 1: Byleth
Only one example.
I was referring to DLC.
And.... since we only had 2 rounds of those-
it's Corrin + Bayonetta,
and Byleth.

I think it's a bit crazy to say Byleth and Corrin weren't one reveal (well, done at once).
If we are doing numerical value alone, Brawl's was G+W (who, as far as I recall, wasn't even a reveal. Maybe I was too young, but I don't remember reveals for Melee. Hence the Sonic/Tails rumor), and Brawl's was Wolf.

But I'm positive Wolf wasn't revealed. The Dojo still shows him as a hidden character.

So.... two passes.
One had two, "lied fan favorite, Bayonetta, and Corrin"
and the other had Byleth, summoning Byleth as Sakurai gave us the finger.

Doing some digging into North American YouTube uploads of previous character reveals, and I think sometime around the Hero moveset breakdown is when the ESRB ratings start to reflect games with ratings over E10+ being shown off as well. Not sure if rating boards in other countries do anything similar, just an observation after realizing how much more attention should be given to that when watching more of these trailers from now on what with Sephiroth's reveal trailer having an E10-T disclaimer on it.

This is kinda misleading. You're ignoring Mewtwo, Roy, and Lucas, first party DLC fighters that aren't newcomers. 9-7 is a better ratio.
no he isnt it says, newcomers. those characters weren't new. some of those characters didn't even have unique special moves.

Hey everyone.
I quoted a Supermod about their illigitimacy in my Geno post (the one where I defined a cult and then explained why they were being one). And all my posts got deleted.

I'm not gonna toot my own horn, but I do work in PR, am an NYU art grad, have a job writing, and was seen strong enough to be a writer here.

I am not sure what game they are playing (obviously I have no problem being blunt, in love), but obviously this is not a legitimate system.

I expect this to get deleted, since neither moderator would respond to my post on the definition of cult, nor leave the post available. I'll happily leave over Geno. I've been here 7 years and if that's what this board represents, lack of communication and insincerity, it's not for me. (In fact, that post where a dozen of you supported my claims of the fraudulence, was deleted because I quoted the moderate. Not communicated to me, just deleted. Not to be extreme, but that is the sign of a dictatorship. Which I guess this is, as it is a paid site. But we like to think differently). I may be done. I doubt this will be seen. But maybe this absolute injustice and poor excuse for English will prevail. I'll likely be banned without a comment.
Perhaps the staff feel that erasure will somehow make it less true, and it's a shame they feel that an effective way to deal with such a problematic thread is to target those who point out its flaws, but if it's any consolation, it's a pretty open secret that maybe even the majority of regular users without a vested devotion to that thread agree it's as close to a cult as you're going to get from a Smash fanbase. Which is a lot of users. Including some of the site's higher ups.

And when it comes to other Smash communities, forget about it. It has such a poor reputation that we all get dragged down with it.

I await my infraction and possible deletion but literally all of this is true.

Whether it's true or not about the Geno community being a ''cult." (I don't see cult. I just see intense fan passion.)

You're not any better for pointing our their flaws and dragging them through the mud, than they are for when they do sometimes step out of line.

I too await my infracation but this is also true.

It's a shame too, because they could've (this is going with hindsight of course) emphasized the draconic aspects of Corrin further or say given Byleth something else that stands out (perhaps some of the post-time skip stuff... I dunno, haven't played 3H). The weapon triangle usage is a neat concept IMHO, but they could've incorporated something that Byleth him / herself has in the special moves so it doesn't feel like (s)he's just borrowing the students' weapons for Smash.
I'm pretty sure all of Byleth's stuff is pre-timeskip. Ironically, the extra weapons they did give him are post time-skip (at least, Failnaught is anyway). But there are a ton of angles they could have taken from the abilities Byleth actually makes good use of.
  • Divine Pulse: This game's turn wheel that allows you to turn back time. Probably a difficult mechanic to work in, but it could be really interesting.
  • Combat Arts: There are several weapon based attacks with unique effects in the game. They could have been interesting as special moves.
  • The Sword of the Creator: A souped up version of it's special Combat Art, Ruptured Heaven, did get in for his Final Smash, but it could have been a Special Move as well.
  • Battalions & Gambits: Battalions and their Gambits could have made for some interesting strategies as well, though I don't imagine the Battalions would be out all the time like they are in the original game.
  • Adjuncts: Fire Emblem: Three Houses's version of the Pair Up system. Using the creative license, you could use this mechanic to make Byleth a sort of summoner character, summoning the three house leaders to help out.
And this is before considering Byleth's skills in Brawling and Faith magic. With just that you could create a character of the brawler archetype that also has access to some good disjoints where it counts.

Oh god, now I can't help but to wonder how Hotel Fire Emblem 3 Houses would go.

Byleth running around closing doors... damn it, now I can't get it out of my mind.
Byleth runs around with a lost and found wagon asking everyone if they own each individual item on it. Pure gold.

Maybe I'm just missing the joke but most of those films aren't even DreamWorks.
The DreamWorks face is basically an overly smug look a character gives on a lot of American-Animated film advertising.

Its the most prevelant with DreamWorks movies. Its kind of a problem:

You'll rarely see the DreamWorks face in anime.

I don't agree that those who comment candidly on a situation are as culpable as those who precipitate it in the first place.

Truthfully, while I don't like Geno or what his fanbase does, I'd drop the conversation right here, as there's always that possibility of making things only worse.

I see it as bad mouthing in general. They may do wrong, but you're not any better by constantly bringing it up and stirring the pot. That's essentially what it is. You're stirring the pot and increasing the problem.

This has happened before in the Smash fandom. Geno's subset wasn't the first. They won't be the last. The K Rool fanbase and Ridley fanbases both have dealt with this and should if ever Geno gets in? That intense blinding and sometimes overly passionate fighting that leads to problems will just travel to another character like Isaac or Waluigi.

When you have a group that so feverishly wants a character things are gonna get blind and intense. Then the people who have to constantly remind them of every little thing ''wrong" with them? Those people increase the problem too. They are part of it. You stir the pot. You make that fire inside of them grow and they rage out more and act out more.

It's just human nature. So yeah you talk badly about a group you're not any better than the group.

And calling a group a ''cult" is definitely derogatory.

I already said my part. I just think it's kind of wild to have an attitude of ''They bad. Me good for pointing out they bad."

When in actuality. You're not and you're just increasing the problem.

Wouldn’t You Like To Know?
Hey everyone? Do you prefer Smash Run or Subspace Emissary? Let me know, please. DM me, so it doesn't clog the thread.
I mean, you can’t really compare them. Subspace is like an 8 hour campaign with big beautiful bosses and cutscenes
Smash Run is an arcade style run through with more in common to Kirby Air Ride than Subspace
If I had to pick one it’d probably be Subspace cause of nostalgia.

Oooooooh. Me like.

I would love it if characters got more personal victory screens, even if it's just a fitting backdrop for each series (or area that a character is associated with).

Unfortunately I can also expect this being a trick shot involving a firey stage. Like Cloud's S4 congratulations screen where Palutena walks into the flames Sephiroth-style.

My only problem with such personal victory screens is that Joker's allies do not appear in his victory screen at all (It'd be cool to see them jump into the Morgana truck)...

... Buuuut it's fully understandable why that's not the case, because that would probably be hellish and costly to animate properly.

I wondering if the way to figure out who could be next would be to look at old fan rosters.
I mean... if you saw this list of characters in 2017 you'd think it was all fake (besides the fact that Three Houses was still Fire Emblem Switch at the time.)

A basic Piranha Plant
That guy from the newest Persona Game
Four Dragon Quest Heroes in one
The Prisoners of Microsoft- Banjo and Kazoie
Terry Bogard (and a whole album of music)
The Hero from the upcoming Fire Emblem game

Min Min from that new ARMS game instead of Spring Man
STEVE MINECRAFT
SEPHIROTH!
