So this was found, a post from October 6th, right after the Steve presentation.
Yes, from 5chan.
Make of that what you will.

ソニーっていうかセフィロスとクラッシュ来るよ
残りはこの2体と東方の霊夢とゼノサーガのKOSMOS
かなり攻めたラインナップだから荒れそう
Mii衣装から参戦することは残念だけどないです

Not really Sony reps, but Sephiroth and Crash are coming.
The remainings are these two and Reimu from Touhou and KOSMOS from Xenosaga.
The lineup is trying way too hard to play to the crowd so it won't be pretty.
Unfortunately, there won't be any promotions from Mii costumes.

http://anago.2ch.sc/test/read.cgi/ghard/1601895454/39
I'm gonna pass on this one!
While i was cautious on the last rumor Kossy was in, it kinda disheartened me that she's one hell of a longshot.
plus,,,,there wasn't ever a true 5channel rumor anyways, so it's not much of an abundance if it goes fluke.

I'd be more happier if someone could do a mod of her in Brawl/PMEX already, but nobody's interested/too busy. (kinda strange Rex hasn't even been in a single Smash mod aside DSX8 doing Pyra and Mythra, XC2 is popular as ****.)

Octolings felt like an echo shoe-in and I'm kinda surprised that never transpired. No signs of an echo pass and Octoling getting a spot on a pass that may be our last feels a bit odious.
I think Octolings could be made unique enough, or at least like only 1/4 of a clone of Inklings in that the only thing they’d share are the ink mechanic and the up B (just replace the squid with a smol octopus) but you could use different weapons like Dualies, Chargers, Splatlings etc AND make them high risk high reward to boot, kinda encapsulating the spirit of the Octo Expansion: difficult but rewarding

Ok but the real best Splatoon secondary rep is

you were expecting DJ Octavio right?

nope! Commander Tartar

looks like Sephiroth has competition in the “how many people you’ve killed” department lmao
This is disrespectful to Cap’n Cuttlefish and thus to me as a person.

The actual best second rep for Splatoon is one of the idol duos. Octoling being anything but a derivative of Inklings feels really weird. Pearl and Marina though could bring another kind of duo playstyle imbued with Splatoon flair.

If CP9 is in March, which it most likely is, and it isn't Monster Hunter, then I feel like Monster Hunter's chances will decrease. This is because the amiibos come out the same day that Monster Hunter: Rise does, so that is quite a huge thing to note.

However, Monster Hunter will still have a chance. They won't be deconfirmed. Just less likely in my eyes.
Alright boys, I'm going to predict the fighter's pass. I will probably be horribly wrong but I'm going to try to predict the pass anyway

(9.): Rillaboom. I'm going to be generic and say that this will be the Gen 8 pokemon, to fill out the trinity with Greninja and Incinaroar. It would count as a whole new world with a Generation 8 stage and all that fun stuff. I know Sword and Shield had a spirit event but he wasn't in it, so he has a chance.

Main difference between Splatoon and FE is that Fire Emblem has a rotating cast, so it’s not like you can say the newest game is represented by Marth when he doesn’t even appear in it. Of course there’s also the factor of Corrin/Byleth being from recent releases and were developed before their games even came out to cross promote. Three Houses could’ve been a critical and commercial flop and we still would’ve ended up with Byleth.

That’s not to say a Splatoon character can’t happen (they are pretty high on the list of potential first parties), but there is a reason they aren’t thrown around as much as new Pokémon, Xenoblade, or insert 2021 release here characters.
I'm not sure it's fair to say that is the 'main' difference (especially as the cast of Splatoon does actually rotate). I'd say the main difference is the type of game they are, but to be a bit snarkier- the main difference is that Splatoon sells exceptionally better.

Off the Hook is really interesting since Pearl is so small she can act as a Luma (albeit a chonky one) to Marina’s Rosalina and move around for disjointed hitboxes. Combined with Dualies and their rolls, while Marina stays at base with her defensive brella capabilitiies, can be a dynamic duo playstyle.

You’re looking at this the wrong way. Inkling is entirely Splatoon 1 content. Right now, there’s no Splatoon 2 content in Smash despite the game selling 11 million copies and being like the #10 overall top selling Switch game. It’d be child’s play to make Octoling a completely unique fighter using Splatoon 2 weapons and abilities. There’s no need for Octoling to be an echo. They could be, but the character and the series have far more potential than that.
Frankly, I think the fact that Splatoon is so often overlooked in the first-party convo says a lot about the relatively blinkered and incestuous nature of the speculation game and how it’s quite out of touch in some ways with the stuff that’s actually popular these days. A lot of the prediction and reasoning is still rooted in the Brawl-era consensus re: first party series, but the landscape has changed a lot since then.

In general I'm not a huge fan of DLC repping existing series. (Sephiorth gets a pass because dammit, FF7 is not an existing series it's a series with a placeholder). It's the main thing that really left me soured on Byleth more than anything else.

And nearly eighty fighters later, first-parties also usually tend to feel like covered ground either way. I'm not entirely against them but I'm glad they're mostly taking it easy on that front.

Balls-to-the-walls third parties that bring something completely alien to Smash. These are usually the best picks.

If we can’t get off the hook in Smash but Project X Zone 3 happens somehow I need them in it, with their Super attack being Hyperbombs + Princess Cannon

See, I like treating Smash like a game, not just a list of video game series. That's probably why I haven't submitted to the Crash hivemind among other things.

Splatoon discussion is hindered by the fact that Octolings are both agreed to be next-in-line and the most obvious echo ever. Enlarging the scope to characters like Cuttlefish and his quick sniper-playstyle and Off the Hook’s synergetic comical duo would drastically improve Splatoon discussion rather than throwing together another kitchen sink set for a character that is in all intents meant to play the same as Inklings.

There’s no Splatoon 2 content in Smash, though, and Splatoon is waaaaay bigger than Xenoblade. Splatoon 2 sold almost 6x as many copies as XB2. The fact that new Splatoon reps aren’t thrown around much here says more about the faulty perspective here, I think.

There is technically Splatoon 2 content, a couple of Off the Hook songs, a Salmon Run song, and... Off the Hook Spirits. And the only Octo Expansion content is the spirits of Octoling Girl & Boy, and Octoling Octopus. No OE music, no Salmonids spirit, no Evil Callie & Kimono Marie spirit, no CQ Cumber spirit, no OE Cap’n or OE Off the Hook spirits, etc

I dont understand this... can you explain? Are you saying Final Fantasy 7 isn't a series, but just one game in a series?

Also.... you feel Sephiroth will feel that new?
I will not pretend I know FF7, but I think Min Min will feel significantly more fresh.

It's an excuse to not think outside the box, just like "Min Min still debuted on the Switch" and "Terry is more well-known than Mario in this one Mexican town maybe".

Yeah, I should specify in the form of character representation. I’d much rather have Pearl & Marina than Octoling, but there’s no reason Octoling shouldn’t be a completely unique character using Splatoon 2 weapons when Ike and Marth are completely human sword-wielders from the same series and are mechanically completely distinct.

There's no Splatoon 2 (exclusive) character--- though I do think some of the alts use gear from 2.
There is plenty of Splatoon content, however. Spirits and Assists are things.

Actually this reminds me I want to go finish Octo Expansion. Great way to stay occupied while sick.

I say that...but then I had one of the best experiences I've had in Smash Bros.
I was playing as :ultbanjokazooie:, and finally made it to fight:ultkrool:.
A part of my inner child (and maybe my adult self) started crying. This game is so special.

EDIT:
Goddamnit. Then after you fight K Rool there is literally an arrow that points South, and absolutely nowhere that it can you. What the hell is with this map?

I'm pointing to FF7 (for one reason or another, this is Cloud and Sephiroth's "series" in-game) having precious little of anything.

I don’t know if this is meant as an own to say that people who want new series don’t like playing the video game, but it’s a poor take, in my humble opinion.

It’s like, “Clearly you don’t play the game if you have a different opinion from mine”. Seems like a weird take.

Anyway, I’m off to stare at the CSS!

It's the same 'how dare people like popular third parties' stuff as usual, just ignore it

I never said I had some hatred for first-parties. If I hated Nintendo so much (though they've certainly been pushing me as of late) I'd be playing something else. I just usually gravitate towards not only third parties but ones a little less prominent than more big-name characters. Terry is my personal favorite DLC so far because he embodies what makes this era of Smash speculation truly special. Also control stick go brrrrrr. Here's to our Shrine Maiden, perhaps~

Same, the biggest flaw of Smash Run was it was 'almost' City Trial... but... just not quite.

Why no online?

Why can't you adjust how long you have to play it?

And the big killer of it

Why can't I interact with my opponents AT ALL? That was one of the best parts of City Trial in finding someone who had gone off all on their own to farm for power ups/finding a ship that they liked and them RAMMING into them.
There's no good reason for number 2, but 1 and 3 are probably things so the 3DS doesn't melt. If Smash Run was in Wii U or Ultimate, it would probably have those things.

Are the most known FF characters.

I know there are 25 Final Fantasies, but aren't most of them just remakes and sequels of FF7?

Squall’s from 8

each FF takes place in a different world (with the exception of direct sequels like X-2 and Lightning Returns) but the worlds share common things like Gil, monsters like Cactuar and Tonberries etc

Uh, Squall is from FF8

And while FF7 is basically a sub-franchise, alot of the other FF are quite popular too, to various degree of course. (6 & 9 nice come to mind)

I'm confused by this as well.

All other racism aside about LatAm being where SNK is popular...

Also random thought, tournaments can’t be used to question the chances of characters anymore

Sephiroth missed the 90’s Tournament as he’s technically a 90’s character but he still made it

unless they’re somehow counting him as a 2010s character due to Remake which I doubt

I think this Nelson fellow is getting themselves a bit confused; I'm pretty sure we're agreeing with the points we're trying to make; namely that a lot of the "frontrunners" are relatively boring and uninteresting. (YMMV of course, to whoever might be reading this, I'm not trying to start anything.)

Thanks, literally didn't know. I only know the character from an old bf. I cant stand playing FF. Majority of RPGs to me feel like reading a book, except I'm watching the character go through everything mundane they do in their day, rather than actual plot.

NGL, I spend a lot of time doing this. Not just because of my love of gaming, this series really is special to me. It's helped me so much with several personal struggles. I cannot believe some people will doubt video games are an artform.

Except WoL. Goddamnit it I cannot stand playing chutes and ladders for 25 minutes instead of knowing where to go.

Squall is from Final Fantasy VIII.

Final Fantasy VII is indeed the most popular and the biggest in terms of game output but there other games that are very popular and have multiple entries within the main installment. Final Fantasy VI is widely regarded as the best one in the franchise and other entries like Final Fantasy IV (Cecil), Final Fantasy IX (Zidayne), Final Fantasy X (Tidus) and Final Fantasy XV (Noctis) have multiple entries within their series that are very popular and mostly well received.

It's legitimately easier to understand Calculus than it is to understand how Most RPGs number their games.
