Official Newcomer/DLC Speculation Discussion

"Strung along" was referring more towards hope rather than expectation. I didn't expect Geno. I never felt like he was owed me or anyone else. But the desire was there and the hope hadn't been squashed yet. I was just looking for closure. Apologies if it came off as demanding.

I don't think you're going to engender much sympathy in having to wait to find out what happens to a specific character when literally dozens of fanbases do the same and often get less closure than you guys likely will.

I think it's a matter of differing circumstances. Sakurai chose the base game's roster, and Ridley and K. Rool were easy to access by virtue of being A: Owned by Nintendo, and B: Not representing a new series and therefore not needing a new stage or an Assist Trophy or whatnot.
intendo chose the DLC, and I guess they just felt differently. Banjo's negotiations probably got mixed in with Steve's to some degree, so I suppose Nintendo thought they could cover both grounds. It should also be noted that Banjo is the only real fan-favorite in the DLC, while the base game largely consisted of ballot picks. I suppose the DLC just has different standards.

I wouldn't be Shocked if they were saving Fan requests (Especially if they are 1st Party) like Isaac, Waluigi, Bandana Dee, Geno, Etc for the Next Smash game, because there needs to be a Reason to buy the next Game after all.

Most of the Character Roster of this game, Whether it be All the Veterans Returning, Ridley, K.Rool, Simon, Hell most of the Echoes as well, were the Result of the Ballot which is based of Requests. Incinearoar and Ken (but it's Ken Masters though) were probably the only characters not related much to the ballot in the Base Roster (Also Plant, but Bonus DLC)

I agree with the Different Standards for DLC. Fan Requests do take a backseat compared to the DLC. this doesn't mean Fan Requests aren't a Factor. even without Banjo, Steve was Requested at least in more Casual Circles like Miiverse, Youtube, and Twitter back in the day. Sephiroth was very Popular Request in Japan. I do think though that in addition to a Character having Fan requests, there need to be other factors to be considred for a DLC Spot

Geno really only had Fan Requests and his relation to Mario (which because of him appearing in One Game, wasn't even the strongest). The Fan Request aspect was so large that Geno was always on the table, and Circumstaial evidence did point to him having some Presence in the DLC, but it seems it's not meant to be

More morrigan and darkstalkers talk, 2 other points worth considering one in favour of morrigan and one against her.

against her. It really seems that sakurai enjoys that the characters are not present in other fighting games crossovers. i remember hearing this one time.. but so far.. we havent had characters that have had other fighting games crossovers such as rayman, shovel knight, 2b, geese, etc.. obvious exceptions are fighting game characters but well, there is at hough. and morrigan is MISS fighting game crossover.

In favour of her. she being in teh pass would mean that sakurai gets a shot of resurrecting the darkstalkers franchise. kinda like he did with K.Krool. and Banjo & Kazooie resurecting the character. it seems like the kind of opportunity sakurai would love to have given the chance. plus.. everyone wants teh franchise resurrected. and the last darkstalker true appearence was in the kinda meh marvel vs capcom infinite. so it really have passed some time. I Imagine him making tons of darkstalkers stage cameos kinda like Spiral Mountain.

Like good lord, not only a good amount of very highly recognised IPs, but their character designs are top-notch, have a recognisable style and are incredibly varied, even with their much less-known IPs. It's no wonder people want just a Capcom All-Stars fighter.

It would be a huge disappointment if Capcom isn't present in Pass 2 honestly.

Based on previous DLC waves of Square characters (Cloud in Smash 4 and Hero), I'd be surprised if we got a costume that isn't from a Square game in the next wave. Or more specifically from the Final Fantasy series.

Only exception is Geno, but given how SMRPG is basically "Mario Fantasy", that's pretty justified.

I wonder if Geno gets added as a mii costume, whether they will change his Spirit Battle or not. Mainly, because Rex never got his updated. I will find it very fishy if they change up Geno's, but leave Rex's alone again. I would lean towards him being in if they skip out on it again, because at that point something is definitely fishy.

If you honestly can't imagine the difference between Geno, his previous costume, his personal shout-outs from Sakurai, and the masses of even more obscure characters out there, then I really don't know what to tell you. The fanbase of Poppy from Xenoblade chronicles 2 is not the same as the Geno fanbase, or the Isaac fanbase, or the Goku fanbase. I highly doubt there a sizeable population of rational people out there that will be honestly surprised when Goku doesn't get in. Geno, on the other hand was obviously more anticipated. If you disagree, then that's fully subjective.

But no, Estelle is just an Educated guess, It was actually Part of a Theory I made back then that talked about Estelle hinting towards Sephiroth as a Playable character

But the whole thing was that Estelle is a Stand in for Aerith from FF7, because both of them have Staff.

Geno and Chocobo were revealed in the Same Presentation as Tails and Knuckles (as examples) back in Smash 4. Geno and Chocobo were bundled seperatly from the Rest, but that also might be because the other costumes in that Presentation were coming out with Bayonetta and Corrin

In terms of what I actually expect from Mii Costumes,

• Tifa (Brawler)
• Barret (Gunner)
• Geno (Gunner)
• Chocobo (Hat)
• 2B (Sword)
• Crono (Sword)

Something like this, but the last two are reaching, maybe we do only get 4. No premium costume, but Terry didn't come with one so it's not like EVERY wave since Sans has to (also because I can't think of any Square character they would do that for except Geno and I'd rather them just give back the old costume than say "well, sorry, we added TWO more Square Characters and still didn't add Geno, but we still know people really want him in so here's a SLIGHTLY BETTER consolation prize". What other character can you even say has gotten that? Ridley when they made him a Stage Boss you can fight, kill and get on your side in Smash 4 after he was just a normal boss in Brawl?)

You do know that there is a difference between a Bo Staff and a mages staff right? Estelle from Tales Of Vesperia would actually make sense but then that would just insinuate that Yuri would be added not Sephiroth or Estelle Bright completely invalidating the theory.

I also want standalone stages. We only got 3 stages in Ultimate that weren't added because of a character, I'd like to see that number grow.

I Practice Mii costume Theorizing

Pretty much, Mii Costumes added along with a Character alot of the Times have some relation to the character.

For example, With Steve, all the characters with Weapons had a Blue Sword, which is Iconic part of Minecraft. Bomberman also Symbolizes Destruction, to Contrast the Creation aspect Steve represents

As I outlined in My Estellroth Theory, I said that Estelle might be in a Hypothetical Sephiroth Pack because Like Aerith, Estelle uses a Staff. I also was focused on Estelle because in a Interview with the Falcom guy, he namedropped Adol and Rean, but not Estelle when considering Smash, and it was suspicous because he said before that she was his favorite characte to write for and she is Mascot character for Falcom

But isn't Estelle's Staff kinda similar looking to Aerith's Staff (disregarding the Different Colors)

Like I will acknowledge that Estelle's Bo Staff has different Properties from Aerith's Magical Staff, but at the end of the day, a Staff is a Staff

It's like how Travis's Lightsaber has different properties from Gil's regular sword, but they both were in Steve's Pack because Blue sword

In an alternate universe we would have gotten Dante in place of Cloud, meaning this reveal would have been Vergil.

And honestly it feels like nothing would have changed given the similar archetypes Sephiroth and Vergil fill.

Geno is a character that I've gone on record to say multiple times that while I don't care for him, I also don't dislike him either, if he gets in, that's no skin off my nose, if he doesn't, the same. He's a character that I'm truly neutral on.

Go ahead and dig through my post history if you feel like it, you'll actually find me playing devil's advocate in Geno's favor on multiple occasions. Hell, I did so last night, it's not even that hard to find.


However, all I see in this reply is emotion. I will say, typing in all caps and denouncing someone as being negative biased without doing any background checks is a bad look.

I've always been in the "Geno would be really cool, but we can do without him" camp. Closure would be nice, but I'll sleep okay regardless. Sephiroth is so hype sometimes I forget what he killed. I can forgive him. He is hot, after all.
