The game that got Sakurai into games is cute and all ...Alis Landale, The first ever female protagonist for RPG's
I actually think she has better shot than Kiryu and Sakura.

Eh, tbf, I don't think presence in Smash spec really dictates whether or not an entirely different game took off. AFAIK, it seems like it was a pretty big hit, so if anything, Axel's disappearance from spec just proves that, as much as I hate to admit it, he was simply yet another symptom of "new game = they in????" syndrome within the Smash community, and not really anything to do with how SoR4 itself did. (Although I still think he has a chance)Sounds like Streets of Rage 4 didn't last as long as we hoped...
I've actually mentioned a couple of times that he'd be a pretty good choice. I know people prefer either Tails or Shadow, but I really think not only is Robotnik a better choice, but potentially more unique. Of course, this discussion is rare and like 400 pages go by between each time he's brought up lol. There are several others here who would be for him too, its just that people place chances higher on Shadow or Tails and Sega already has a second rep in Joker (due to Sega owning Atlus) so its not a conversation that tends to stay around long. Why not Eggman? I've seen him mentioned in youtube Prediction videos at times, and there's no one here that would say he's not Iconic?
Streets of Rage 4 was so much fun though it made me realize I had not played a classic beat em up game in years, until SoR4, of course.Eh, tbf, I don't think presence in Smash spec really dictates whether or not an entirely different game took off. Sidenote, every single one of you go buy Streets of Rage 4 or the original trilogy on the Mega Drive collection right this instant or else I will personally come to your house and pee on your bed
would be cool but I feel like if they'd include another sonic character they'd do it in a base game. I'd be surprised if they brought in a 3rd party for an existing game this pass. I'd imagine they'd rather go after new series for those few extra sales that come from extending to other audiences. Even though that's a bs argument, pretty much the only character I could see going against it is someone like Raiden. Why not Eggman? An elusive demographic that will buy a console for Banjo in Smash but will also buy Rare Replay not knowing who he was beforehand.2. Did Banjo appeal to more new audiences than people might expect? I know people say he's for the fans, but I've heard stories of people buyign Banjo, plus Smash and even a switch because they knew him from Rare Replay?
It's a Weird Demographic for sure, But I've heard it exists. I remember some dude said that His Dad Bought a Whole Switch, Smash, and Banjo (or he might have gotten the full Pass), because he recognized him from Rare Replay. It Be like that sometimesAn elusive demographic that will buy a console for Banjo in Smash but will also buy Rare Replay not knowing who he was beforehand.
It do be like that sometimes. But not often. It's a Weird Demographic for sure, But I've heard it exists. I remember some dude said that His Dad Bought a Whole Switch, Smash, and Banjo (or he might have gotten the full Pass), because he recognized him from Rare Replay. It Be like that sometimes
Judging from the sales of the latest title, it also barely holds any cache in Japan.Sakura Wars has had two titles even make it out of Japan, both of which performed poorly, and were many years apart from each other. The series holds almost no cache outside Japan.
perhaps, But From what I Remember, The guy made it seem like His Dad was an avid Xbox Gamer. It do be like that sometimes. But not often.
I think this boy in the story might not realize that his dad recognizes Banjo in Rare Replay from the actual original Banjo games.
Yeah. Sakura would be a weird pick.Judging from the sales of the latest title, it also barely holds any cache in Japan.
While I'm ambivalent about urine related retaliation, I would also recommend downloading Streets of Rage Remake for your computer. Its in my estimation the best beat em up of all time and is still going strong even 10 years after release thanks to updates and the modding community.Eh, tbf, I don't think presence in Smash spec really dictates whether or not an entirely different game took off. That's true, but if he's old enough to be online sharing stories, his dad is old enough to have been able to start gaming before the Xbox was a thing. So initially he did probably start on something else, as I would reason that at this point, most people who game as adults also gamed as children.perhaps, But From what I Remember, The guy made it seem like His Dad was an avid Xbox Gamer.
There's a Whole subset of people that Only Play Microsoft/Xbox, Just like there's a Subset that only play Playstation, PC, or Nintendo. I can see People only recognizing Banjo from Rare Replay, or even Nuts and Bolts. I don't think it may be a majority though. I think the majority Audience was Smash fans, and then Perhaps old School Nintendo fans
I feel like Sakura is mostly propagated on here by a select few fans who overstate her chances. And maybe eventually if other people hear her enough, they might buy in. But at the end of the day, it doesn't change that the series really isn't in a position where inclusion seems likely.Judging from the sales of the latest title, it also barely holds any cache in Japan.
Honestly though, Travis is probably known more in the West than Japan, but he's still niche neverthelessTo be brutally honest, I think many of the franchises/games we discuss get brought up so often that some of us act like it's strange for someone to think said franchise/game isn't very well known.
Is it truly odd for someone outside Japan to not know who Arle Nadja or Travis Touchdown is? Not really, but they've been labeled as extremely likely third-parties for so long that a lot of people here would legitimately think it's ridiculous for anyone to imply that they may not be well-known.
I mainly said that because of Arle.Honestly though, Travis is probably known more in the West than Japan, but he's still niche nevertheless
but I do agree. Smash Speculation can be a Popular thing, and that's probably why Characters like Geno are much more known than they usually would be, but that's honestly Rare. I Know Arle really was unknown to a Good amount of people until Papagenos made a video on her. Characters like Sakura that never hit it off heavy in Smash Speculation fare worse
The irony of a POTD being related to both Smash and Splatoon after what happened recently...There was a problem fetching the tweetA recreation of the trailer that started it all

wow, can't believe the smash 4 port ft. Inkling and Ice Climbers released 4 years ago.

konami's stingier than square, they're too busy constructing pachinko machines to re-add snake. And Snake, I can’t believe u forgot snake smh
oh wait I think I know what you mean
Hero being niche or Japan-only is a huuuuuuuuuge stretch. He's far more popular worldwide than Mega Man, who was the "big get" of Smash 4.I agree that people far overstate the likelihood of characters that skew very heavily towards one region or another. That is a thing that Smash clearly avoids, and if we are to get those characters, I'd imagine they'd have to be both highly prevalent in their popular region, and at least decently known in the other.
And with that comes people equating characters niche in a region, like Hero or Terry, with characters that are actually obscure, who I would reason Sakura and Arle are in the west (though Sakura more so). Not Travis though, his games are actually more popular outside Japan than inside.
And it cuts both ways. I think people expecting Mortal Kombat or Spyro, or, frankly, maybe even Rayman to spring up on the roster are going to be left disappointed. I'd even say that Doom has quite an uphill battle. Not for the violence, but for the lack of familiarity in Japan.
The one character that I could possibly see overcoming the regional deficit in Japan is Master Chief, who, in many ways, is sort of the parallel to Hero. Though after Steve that seems like less of a reality. Apart from that, I think expecting a character that the other region is barely familiar with, whether east or west, is a good way to get your hopes crushed.

Vyse.Hmmmm, since we're on the topic of Sega characters, I'm curious to see you people's opinion on something: which Sega characters aside from the usual discussed crowd (namely Kiryu, Sakura, Arle, Demi-Fiend and a second Sonic char) do yallz think would hypothetically have the best shot amongst themselves?
There was a problem fetching the tweetCan anyone translate this?
I love SoA but man.Vyse.
You Know, I've been someone that's thought Mortal Kombat has had a Very good chance because it had has alot of merits in spite of the Japan thing and the Gore thingI agree that people far overstate the likelihood of characters that skew very heavily towards one region or another. It means that Byleth wasn't Scorpion and probably nothing more. Will

But thinking about, Part of me is thinking about not predicting it anymore, or giving up on it. Plus there's a thought I had Very Recently
Do you think Scorpion was Deconfirmed by Vergeben for all of Smash Unintentionally? I remember he was in that thread where someone was saying Scorpion was Fighter 5, but Verge deconfirmed him with Swiftness by Saying it was Definitely not him
Scorpion is fighter 5 - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (gamespot.com)
The Definitely means He was very sure, and This choice of words seems stronger than his other Deconfirmations at the time. I Imagine that if Scorpion or Mortal Kombat was coming with Shcaracter, there be more buzz in the Rumor scene, like how Verge talked about the Koei Talks. It's a shame because I am advocate for his chance, but Thinking about it, I might need to tone it down a notch perhaps
AFAIK, nothing yet.Has Verge confirmed if the next character is first or third party? And hopefully a reveal will be at the Awards Show..
