To be fair, Hero was also the only one to have all the Mii Costumes be from their home series. It was also the only one to be pushing an upcoming release (Byleth doesn't count because they released after their game did), so I'd imagine it was a part of the big DQXIS push Nintendo was doing back then.
Sure, but it still doesn't explain their Mii Costume wave in Smash 4 being entirely made up of Geno Mii Costume and Chocobo Hat and nothing else.

"Good."

Which is a bit strange when Cam Clarke has experience with these sort of roles - he's the TMNT '87 Leonardo. I honestly think it's not just the direction, but also him trying to sound a bit overly young when he might not need to.
What kinda show were they running where the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles's personalities would be considered generic? I mean, they're pretty tropey, but generic?

TheBeastHimself TheBeastHimself I hope Lucas never gets cut, simply because you love him so much!
OMG Thank you!!!

You know, Lucas was the only protagonist from the Mother series with arguably any depth to him. He went from a timid cry-baby to someone who understood he was chosen for a mission and couldn't be that person anymore. Not sure why Smash Brawl went back to characterize him as a cry-baby in Subspace Emissary, but yeah. Go Lucas!!

I'd argue that '87 Leo's a bit generic intentionally - he's the straight laced leader, while Michaelangelo and Raphael gets to do most of the catchphrases / quipping (especially Raphael) and Donatello gets to be the machine / science guy. That series was also more episodic (contra 2003 and '12, haven't gotten around to watching newer TMNT stuff), meaning that Leo didn't get many arcs or stuff to do in '87.

It's not neccessarily a bad thing to be "generic" either - Cam Clarke helped give '87 Leo a straight laced demeanour, and space for the other '87 characters to shine. IIRC he did do really well with Leo with what was given to him.

"This is a good result! 👀" - Shulk

Though that one's not quite as awkward and is funny more because it's a "No s***, Sherlock!"

Dunno what you mean here.

Square content in Smash 4 was stingy as is, we were lucky to even get the Chocobo hat, and if I were a betting man, considering how Geno's costume was shown off, he was put in due to the ballot.

I think Geno has a good shot... but I thought Heihachi did as well, and thought that he was safe after missing the "Exclusively Fighting Game" character pack of Mii Fighters that Terry brought, only time will tell.

Mother 3's never happening but Lucas is already preserved in a way, he's already been in Smash at least once, and that alone makes people care about characters. Nobody would have given 2 ****s about Ice Climbers had Melee not introduced them
And now to give their relevance an even bigger shot in the arm

I'd imagine it's one of his end battle banter lines, but I don't think I've actually heard it.

Honestly, I wonder why one of his win quotes isn't something to the effect of "but we musn't be careless" because I swear everyone in that game has a line like this.

Not quite.

It's his voiceline for when he creates a good ether crystal via the crafting minigame.
In the most literal sense, it is a "good result" since he gets something out of it.

In Smash it's just him stating the obvious.

EDIT: wait no ID was right, I might've mistaken another voiceline for that.

Back during Smash 4, SquareEnix had a Mii Costume wave all to itself comprised of a grand total of two costumes. To this day, no other company has ever gotten their own dedicated Mii Costume wave. Not SEGA, not Capcom, not Konami, not SNK, not even Nintendo themselves.

After having played Xenoblade Chronicles, I am kind of sad Shulk's Monado Art quotes didn't make it. I get why, they don't completely fit (and most of the Arts are different), but "Jump!", "Shield!", and "Smash!" don't hit nearly as hard as "We're not invincible. Monado Enchant!", "Monado! Shield us from harm!", and "That's enough!".

Actually no, you are right. He says it after gem crafting.

Yeah, it might not sync up as well. Though, given Terry's alternating quotes, maybe he could just have two separate lines (i.e. "Monado Shield!" and "Save us from harm!" as two separate lines)

I don't think we can really compare Smash 4 to Ultimate's Mii costume wave, especially since a lot of Smash 4's DLC costumes were just filled junk like "Generic bear" or **** like that. The two games feel a lot different in terms of how Mii costumes are coming.

FEATURING BILL HADER AS POPO AND SAMUEL L. JACKSON AS NANA
"Now then, tell me Polar Bear... this is a tasty Coke Bottle."

The Polar Bear blinks, confused. While Nana sips some of the Coke Bottle she just took from the Bear.

“You think water moves fast? You should see ice. It moves like it has a mind. Like it knows it killed the world once and got a taste for murder. But I don't believe that the ice just moves by itself. Someone set it off. ”

"What? What I-"

"ENGLISH, ************, DO YOU SPEAK IT? WHAT COUNTRY ARE YOU FROM? WHERE IS THE CONDOR?"

"Uh-huh, he' he's up there, at the mountaintop!"

"I've had it with these Polar Bears on this Icicle Mountain. Lets go Bro."

I kneel. You are clearly too strong Phil-Sama. So strong in fact that I have even purchased a subscription for Game Pass on PC.
Microsoft wins (?). Flawless victory.

It'd probably still allow wonky things like "Save me from BACKSLASH!!!", though I suppose that'd be part of the charm. lol

If they were to retool Shulk's Monado Arts, I'd love to see them tie them to his Talent Art gauge, so you have to pick which one you think you'll need when you can use them. I'd keep the wheel, and have the top ones be buffs, and the bottom ones be attacks. So from the top left, you'd have:
  • Enchant: Does the same thing as what Buster used to do.
  • Shield: Lowers the damage and knockback from Special Moves. Weaker special moves like Mario's Fireball are completely negated.
  • Speed: Makes Shulk intangible to projectiles for a bit. Like Bounce, but projectiles pass through. You also get a tiny bit faster so people don't question why it doesn't have this effect.
  • Purge: A projectile attack that lowers the opponent's speed and damage output for a few seconds.
  • Buster: DORYAH!!!

Are people really arguing about the Legacy takedown being a hint at a character?

Come on, guys. Ridley getting a makeover literally a month before getting revealed in Smash didn't do it and Ridley being in Smash was a BIG deal (pun intended), so why would any of the LXP additions do the trick two years later?

Dude I think you're missing points entirely. Sakurai never said anything on ARMS not making it in the first pass and people aren't talking about spirit tournaments, they're talking about spirits who got added as free DLC, which Fire Emblem suspiciously lacked when 3H came around despite DLC Spirits having been used to promote new games constantly
I believe Sakurai said MinMin was originally supposed to be in the base game, but wasn't because he couldn't figure out how to make the ARMs fighting style work. The point though is the spirit is not a reason why MinMin wasn't even fighters pass like that other person implied. The idea because MinMin's spirit was in the basegame, instead of adding later is the only reason why MinMin was okay to be a fighter is really stupid the more you think about it.

You're gonna need to be able to source something like this, because not being able to do so is how misinfo spreads.

A couple things:

An ARMS character (not any character in particular) was only considered for base, not planned

And It wasn't due to the fighting style clashing, it was soley due to ARMS releasing too late. Ultimate's roster was already decided on at that point. Similar situation Rex had

As funny as the topic is, I'm not sure if we should be discussing this on SmashBoards. If strong profanity is banned, I'd imagine even mild sexual content would get the boot as well.

Delzethin strikes again.
My thoughts:
  • I agree with his points on the main three, though I'm not sure Geno's points are enough to make him a frontrunner.
  • Someone needs to tell him that Sora is a Disney character, not a SquareEnix character.
  • I don't think a playable Monster Hunter would primarily take ideas from Monster Hunter: Rising. They would certainly draw from some concepts, but a lot of it would be from previous games in the series I feel. If that's the case, I don't think the logic exactly applies. Besides, wouldn't it still apply to later characters due to their planning taking place much earlier? I do think they're more likely to be the 8th pass character though.

Sakurai never said an ARMS character was planned in the base game.

What he said was that he learned of the game too late for it to be considered for base game.

It's a timing issue, not a problem of "figuring it out"

Zero Suit Samus is referred to as a “newcomer” in the E3 2006 reveal trailer of Super Smash Bros Brawl
Yeah. And Charizard gets a newcomer reveal trailer for Smash 4. But wait! He was already a newcomer in Brawl as part of Pokemon Trainer's moveset!

So WHICH ONE IS IT? Oh! Is it actually inconsistent because it's ****ing stupid? You don't say!
