One thing I noticed no one talking about is that they showed a clip of Mario in a F.L.U.D.D.less level with F.L.U.D.D. on his back. Did they add F.L.U.D.D. back into the F.L.U.D.D.less levels?
In Sunshine if you go back to the secret courses after getting their particular Shine Sprites, you can get another one via a red coin challenge (with FLUDD) on that level.

I mean...all those games were technically already on NSO, so....yeah.
Yeah but the pixel art looks so much nicer on All Stars, so for me personally I always disliked how they'd never rerelease those versions on services like the VC and NSO until now, lol.

Not to mention the much nicer OST as well. It'll be nice to not have to play these versions on RetroArch anymore.

Honestly the real reason is probably Nintendo thinking it'd be too valuable, 64 and Galaxy are available for Wii U VC for half of this collection's price and Nintendo DID get rid pf their NSO voucher **** in the US got scrapped because Nintendo thought 20 bucks was just too good of a discount
The collection is 60 bucks right? That's a steal for those 3 games honestly.

Man I wish we had gotten a reveal, for anyone - they could have said "Joycon drifts into action!" and I'd have been fine with it, because at least then the speculation cycle would cease briefly, at least we'd get confirmation of something and change the conversation for a bit.

I like speculation, but I hate falling back down to ground zero every week following no Smash news when things look promising.

Yeah, I always considered the All Stars version the best versions to play, especially with how well the pixel art has aged.

Idk, the steal would've been had they included Galaxy 2, which I agree is probably why they didn't.

As it is now, if they charged 10 for 64, 20 for Sunshine, and 30 for Galaxy, which is concurrent with how those pricings usually go on the eShop/VC, it comes out to the regular retail price.

I guess it's cheaper than if you wanted to buy the physical copies of the those games, though.

Don't worry, there are a ton of games to play or books to read to ignore this speculation if it becomes too much.

I’m sure it won’t be long before some of the Waluigi and especially geno fans find a way to spin this into them being more likely somehow.

Before the direct- Geno is basically a lock if there’s a Mario direct!!!

After- well, they wouldn’t have included him in an anniversary shadow dropped direct anyways... hes basically a lock to be the pass closer now!!!
I've some people speculate that the reason why the Mario Themed Tournament is happening in November-December is that they want to reveal Geno/Waluigi/Chargin' Chuck before that so they can be in the tournament.

Yeah but they could have done that today just as easily. Not saying it can't happen but...

Also, I'd play the heck out of Chargin' Chuck.

I will not stand for this Super Mario Land 2 and Mario Galaxy 2 erasure!

In all seriousness, it's lame that Galaxy 2 isn't part of the collection, and the limited time run idea is dumb as all ****. That said I'm still probably going to get the collection so I can finally check out Super Mario Sunshine for myself, and even if the games aren't exactly remastered, seeing them get a little bit of a touch up with their resolution and having 16:9 is still appreciated.

Also I'm probably going to end up getting that Mario 35 Battle Royale. I just have a thing for non-shooter BR (thinks about how much he played Tetris 99 and how much he's playing Fall Guys right now)

EDIT: Also turns out I was right about insiders being only partially right about the Mario 3D collection. I feel like other people have probably thought the same though so not bragging or anything.

Imagine thinking Mario needs promotional picks to boost sales. Couldn't be me.

Then again, this is Nintendo so who knows what they'll do.
I doubt a Mario character being a Promotional Character, It's kinda the same with Pokemon as well honestly. If anything it would be the inverse. If that's the case I'd expect Mario Character or Pokemon character EARLY in the Pass for Hype reasons or something

Honestly after today I'm actually more optimistic about Geno's Chances I would say. I've been pretty pessimistic about him getting in, but I think iI changed my mind

I've always felt the same. it and Super Mario world have aged very well. And with it being available on SNES virtual later today, I'll be able to head home after work and have some fun going through Mario 2 again (not lost levels; I've had enough of that)

Some levels are nice such as the third one in SMB, but a lot of them are butchered and soulless.

I will pay for NSO the day they bring SMT over to the western service.

Would be really weird if Geno were usable in a Mario tournament but not Yoshi or DK.

Advertising and promotion aren't just for resurrecting dying products.

Companies usually use a good amount of their marketing budget to make ads of their most successful goods. Saying people "go buy this thing" about something they might not know about can be effective but keeping a franchise they know about in their mind constantly ultimately makes more money. Having staying power over the public consciousness is why Mario makes so much money in the first place.

So, no, one promotional pick won't increase the sales by itself but why not pick every small chance at reminding people about your product if you can? It's not Nintendo being Nintendo, it's how big corporates (usually) work.

It just feels odd to me to promote Mario in Super Smash Bros. It's like promoting FF7 in Crisis Core.

And of the two frequently discussed Mario characters, one is irrelevant outside of Smash discussion and is from a game almost a quarter century old, and the other is definitely more well known but is only in Mario spin off titles.

It simply feels off to me.

Terraria Spirit Event when?

Despite the whole dumb thing Nintendo did with the 3D All Stars pack, I would say the direct was a blast overall.

I finally get to play three iconic and amazing Mario games.

One thing I wonder about is how they're going to handle Sunshine's controls. The pressure sensitive triggers were pretty necessary to control F.L.U.D.D well.

Hopefully one way around this is formal GameCube controller support. I kinda doubt they'd go through that much effort a feature few would presumably use, but the amount of effort that has gone in accurately making Galaxy's controls work does give a little bit of hope.

Hopefully we can at least get some new characters for 3D World.

I actually thought that this new area shown was going to be a Mario Land themed world because I mistook the statue for one of those Sphinx enemies. Would have been the perfect opportunity for playable Daisy.

Just watched the presentation. Kinda bummed honestly, was looking forward to 3D All-Stars but the limited time thing means it's virtually impossible for me to buy it physical (and no way in hell I'm paying $60 for digital versions of old games lol). That said, I've played them all, so I guess it's just a lost sale for Ninty.

3D World though I've never played, so I'm getting that one. The Game & Watch looks neat, but it and 3D All-Stars seem destined to be sold for exorbitant prices by scalpers online for all eternity. Mario 35 honestly looks fun as ****, dunno why it's limited time when NSO clearly needs all the incentives it can get and Tetris 99 worked out so well. And the RC car thing, obviously it's for kids, but man does it look fun, wish **** like that existed back in the day. I'd have busted that bad boy in no time making it do sick jumps.

Oh and wtf is up with Galaxy 2 being erased from existence? I get Land 2 but Galaxy?

The thing with Geno is, he would have never been revealed alongside a Super Mario anniversary in the first place, due to the dreaded Nintendo Mario Purity Council, so his absence means nothing.

Seriously just look at all the products related to this anniversary: all of them use the sanitized image from the mainline games that Nintendo has been pushing for the last decade. Can you imagine Geno being a part of this, just because he's technically a Mario character? I can't.

However that leads us to something I said a while ago, if there really is a push from within Nintendo to reduce the influence outside developers have on the Mario brand, why would they go back against all that just for Geno and have him appear as a playable character, the same status as the other Mario characters already playable in Smash, who were all created in-house? Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

I've some people speculate that the reason why the Mario Themed Tournament is happening in November-December is that they want to reveal Geno/Waluigi/Chargin' Chuck before that so they can be in the tournament.
Now this one doesn't make a lick of sense. If Yoshi and Wario aren't allowed in that tournament, what hope does someone like Geno have?

Geno would, in all likelihood, be classified as a Mario character. Yoshi having his own series is a weird leftover of Smash 64 (not sure whether they thought that Yoshi was going to have a ton of spin-offs going forward, or what the situation was), but unlike the characters in that tournament's line-up (or presumably Geno, if he gets in between now and then), he doesn't have the mushroom icon. (not sure why they couldn't make an exception for Yoshi, Wario, or the Donkey Kong characters, though)

Well, I was definitely in the right to start questioning a potential Smash reveal as the night went on.

I'm not disappointed since I got SunShine out of it but

Man, SM64 without BLJ just feels wrong.

Looks at the constant string of Coca Cola and McDonalds ads.

:ultpiranha: 's a common mook who's never been playable before Ultimate, and that didn't stop it from being playable.

Also, Smash ads for kids / families treat Smash as a Mario spin off of sorts, with cute characters like Pikachu and the AC characters sprinkled in. Three of the 13 ads for Ultimate have Mario's name in their respective titles. An honor no other character gets (at least not with the English commercials). Nintendo pushed the casual aspect hard in the ads too, especially with the tagline "More Fighters, More Battles, More Fun". It doesn't matter if the Mario character is minor compared to those already in the game, because neither Waluigi nor Geno would look out of place in a Mario spin off. Just as Plant would not look out of place in a Mario spin off.

While several of the ads are privated now, the English titles are searchable.

Wasn’t there a Mega Man crossover or something?

I’d imagine it’s art style wouldn’t have meshed well with DL either.
There was, yes.
