Also, now that they've done this I'm pretty confident we aren't getting a general Nintendo direct this year anymore.

I went from Super Nintendo to the Wii U at the end of its life-cycle, then Switch, so I actually never played Mario 64, Sunshine, or Galaxy (the lack of Final Fantasy continuing on Nintendo made me switch to PS1 when it came out) so that's a pretty nice collection for me. I gave Galaxy a try at a friends' house, but I didn't really like being forced to use the Wiimote instead of a controller for Mario. I know its necessary to collect the little star things, but hopefully there's a way to just use a Pro Controller. If not, then I may just play 64 and Sunshine and leave Galaxy alone.

It's a fantastic game that snowballed the Mario games into killing Paper Mario.

There's a chance that Donkey Kong Jr grew up and he's now the actual DK from DK Country. The original DK from the arcade game is supposed to be Cranky... I'm not a big expert of DK lore though, and I'm pretty sure Nintendo doesn't care or even hates lore in their Mario games, so forget about this.

Probably means they just didn't cover sequels.

But Super Mario Bros 2 and 3...
Mario Land 2 never gets any attention from Nintendo. The only time they mentioned it it was in a Mario Maker (1) promotional thing I've seen at a supermarket, it was listed (with a screenshot) along with all the other 2D Mario games... that's literally the only time I've seen Nintendo considering it.
That's a big shame because SML2 is a little masterpiece and personally one of my favorite games overall.

I’m hardly ever serious, especially when drunk which I am currently thanks to the whiskey that I underhyped in the taste category. News flash, it’s tastes heavenly. Anyways, I finally watched direct. It happened during. My binge watching of Community on Netflix so it had to wait. It was the puppet episode so, if you like community, you would understand.

I like this new Mario Kart idea but I’ll probably never play it cause I’m not a RC type of person. Still, it’s pretty much a carbon copy of an idea I had as a kid. Still though, was hoping for a tribe and true Mario Kart game.

No Mario Paint Switch is a blow that my drunken ass can’t get over. I’ll go into my love of Mario Paint on a later date.

Was hoping for Mario Golf response to Mario Tennis. A new Mario Golf is would have been fun.

Luigi’s Mansion DLC

a new Super Princess Peach title.

a Bowser Platformer Super Bowssr Bros.

Also, Smash wood ofbeen great. I’ll accept Waluigi, Birdo, Captain Toad...or...gulp....even Geno at this point...

Yup. Mario character supporters will definitely eat this up.

As for the Direct, it was okay? The limited release for the 3D collection is a strange choice, and it’s coming in like two weeks, that’s an unusually short time between announcement of this caliber and release. Kinda bummed that they’re just ports, so not interested in getting it really. Otherwise, all good, giving another Wii U game a second chance via 3D World (XCX when??).

Oh, Cat Mario and Cat Peach amiibo are cool, no idea why I got excited about those of all things lol.

It might be something of a test run from Nintendo's POV to see if the collection are a big success. If so, they might do more.

Likewise, the fact that Mario 35's a limited time offer too might be Nintendo testing the waters there: to see if it's worth for them to pursue a possible full-fledged BR game down the line.

Honestly, I'm just glad they did something for Mario's birthday - even if it was shadowdropped with no ceremony at all.

Of the things that got announced, the most interesting stuff was Bowser's Fury and Mario 99 35 - even though I think making the latter available for a limited time is a **** move on Nintendo's part.

I'm curious as to why they didn't port Galaxy 2 along with 1, but oh well. And also why we're gonna have to wait for the Mario-themed Smash tourney. Like, why not make it this week's?

Don't know if people will do the same with Nintendo because most of them seem to be happy of having first party news, but the only way to solve this is to complain.

This decision has literally killed my interest for this collection (the lack of Galaxy 2 doesn't help as well). Seriously, Nintendo sometimes makes really absurd and prehistoric decisions. This is anti-consumer as hell if you ask me.

I don't think there's gonna be any general directs for the rest of this year. Just continuation of partner mini-directs. When we do get our next Smash character it'll likely be in a Sakurai presents which I think the rest of the characters are going to be.

Pretty disappointed by the collection tbh, barely any changes to 64 and no Galaxy 2 is a massive bummer, not even counting the limited run thing.

Extra stuff for 3D World is the real highlight here, also happy we're getting an original new Splatfest.

Nah I expect people to unironically defend Nintendo on this and try claiming we're ungrateful for being unhappy at the sheer audacity of a game being limited release for less than a year. I see people like that on twitter plenty and even a few of those types here
