Well I do know from experience that some people will mash in URLs to see what works and that now and then you'll get someone who skips protocols to get lunch quicker.

It also helps that it's yet another evergreen rumor that seems to finally be coming true.

Yet another 2018 rumor coming true in 2020?!? Golly, it's an epidemic!

Also, the Polish Amiibo leak in early May already added a ton of backing to this so I kind of figured that this rumor's kill switch was likely to be September anyways:

There's just no point into bringing up a total rando who claims he has sources but isn't a leaker despite saying stuff that's supposedly not out in the open yet

If you are talking about that one guy, I fail to see how he is a conspiracy theorist. I am sure he knows himself to be more of a guy than a leaker, as in one who may want to say his thoughts more than what his sources may tell him, as sources can only do so much. I don't see how he is bad, especially if I am seeing this as exaggeration. There is a lot of things you do not know about one person, and people just tend to jump over people like him and make up things even if they aren't true. What you may see in him may not be true about him at all. We shouldn't jump to conclusions about what we don't know about anyone.

That said, he may overhype things sometimes, and he may be forgiven too easily and overhyped as being things he is not by others, but to who I spoke with, they don't always agree with his theories, and he appears to be a good friend. There can be more to him or anyone than what you may see initially.

That said, sources say different things, and if he has them, his sources may be among the most of imperfect ones. Doesn't make him bad.

I'm sure there's more to his logic than I'm seeing in this post, but how could insiders hear rumors of Geno and Waluigi getting in Smash back in 2018 when the second Fighter's Pass couldn't have been more than an idea they were considering if the first pass did well?

Also, connecting one unrelated rumor to another is the equivalent of saying, "Star Fox Grand Prix is real!! The Geno rumors were true!!"

Rumors taking a while to really pan out is completely valid. Game development is hard and sometimes stuff gets out in the planning stages, which could be a half a decade before release in some situations if not longer, assuming it doesn't get cancelled outright. But just because one rumor turns out to be true doesn't mean all of them are.

Really, most every rumor that involves an entity other than Smash has... nothing to do with Smash, even if we keep this discussion confined to Nintendo. No, Devil May Cry coming to Switch doesn't mean Dante, Crash 4 coming to Switch doesn't mean Crash, Halo collection doesn't mean Master Chief, a Golden Sun revival doesn't mean Isaac, etc. That's purely speculation and nothing more.

Also, Waluigi heard in 2018 is the most nonsensical leak bait there is to the point I can't believe anyone fell for it. No, Nintendo didn't suddenly see the negative reception to his assist trophy reveal and then go "wow, we better put this demanded character in so the death threats will stop!" That isn't and will never be the philosophy behind character picks. If Waluigi somehow escapes his assist trophy destiny, it will have been decided on much later.

What COULD and most definitely will/has happen is characters rejected for pass 1 got looked over again when deciding pass 2, but those decisions exist in a realm separate from any 2018 rumors because we have zero indication of who will be picked based on that information. Plans change and information gets outdated extremely quickly.

This just made me realize that there's a possibility that some % of the Doom or Skyrim-type rumors might have had a legitimate basis in "Nintendo and Bethesda are talking about Smash!"... when said collaboration could very well end at the Vault Boy costume. (Or said rumors were always guesses at best, but still.)

The point I was getting at is that insiders were somehow hearing about Geno and Waluigi being in Smash before the second pass was even set in stone. What are the odds that several people had been hearing rumors of characters who wouldn't be announced until more than two years later for a second wave of DLC that may or may not have happened?

"Since 2018" is what kills this for me.

Of all dates, August 28th does make a lot of sense for an announcement as it's the Thursday just before the business quarter ends.

But let's wait and see what happens. Wonder if we'll get some new spirits before then.

At this point I'm kind of tapped out from rumors. It always feels like it'll be ages before Nintendo actually announces anything substantial, so it's exhausting trying to keep up with every random thing that may or may not come to fruition during the wait.
