not gonna lie i'd support a Digimon inclusion ONLY if we got an incredible CGI trailer of Pikachu fighting a Digimon.

I imagine a Smash direct starting with a trailer featuring a Pokemon battle, as everyone groans seemingly thinking it's another darn Pokemon. But then a familiar, spiky-haired face steps out of the shadows asking the Pokemon trainer for a fight, but to his surprise he has no Pokeballs, but a "digital watch" on his person. A familiar, 90s tune with "di-di-di-Digimon" starts to play as a familiar creature comes out of digitization (I don't know too much about Digimon, see), and stares down his opponent... "AGUMON FIRES UP!" And you can see Pikachu looking very scared and confused as Agumon leaps forward to fight him.

Like, I'm not totally sure if the game side of Digimon alone is on the same level as other third parties in Smash, but it'd be hilarious to actually see Digimon vs Pokemon be an officially Game Freak/Pokemon Company/Creatures/Nintendo-endorsed thing! Sure the 90s/00s rivalry would be a bit one sided with how many Pokemon there are, but that didn't stop Sonic from getting in.

I know this is a thread about DLC speculation but seeing the crossover idea just makes me appreciate how crazy the base roster is as it is now. God bless Sakuri.

The 30th Anniversary hasn’t passed yet. That would be the end of this month (July 27) which, while unlikely, we still could possibly get something.

Just not really feeling it, since it seems like the kind of thing that would be released on the anniversary rather than just announced. Here's hoping, though. I've been holding off on getting EarthBound Beginnings this whole time in hopes that we'd get some kind of trilogy.

I got Beginnings the day after it was released, good game that no fan of the series should miss out on. Even if it’s not as big as the other 2 games that come after it.

My guess was always August until that "Summer" games advertisement yesterday. Now I think that Hero releasing this month is a pretty good bet.
Astral Chain releasing next month yet being absent in that video is just too strange. Especially considering how they've been marketing it fairly aggressively.

Y'know, I'd still give it until after prime time (8PM-11PM) for there to be any Hero stuff coming if it's gonna meet the EVO deadline. If there isn't, I'll just wait until the weekend since Summer Vacation in Japan starts there

Okay I got a theory on which companies have the last two slots, while I am not 100% sure on which characters it will be. I think the last two reps will be from Bandai Namco and Koei Tecmo.

In Bandai Namco's case, I find it strange that Capcom, Konami, Sega (if you count Joker and Bayonetta as Sega characters) have 3 characters and Square Enix will soon have another. Meanwhile Bandai Namco was the developer of the game and they only have 1 rep which has been kind of strange to me. So this is leading me to believe that we will see a Bandai Namco in the fighter pass, hell if Nintendo is planning an EVO reveal it could be a Tekken character likely someone from the Mishima family like Kazuya, Heihachi, or Jin. As a way to appeal to the FGC since Tekken and Smash will both be having their grand finals on August possibly even back to back.

The last rep I think will be a Tecmo Koei, Nintendo has collaborated with them more then any other third party publisher in recent years. Here is a list of times they have worked together on something within this decade.

Hyrule Warriors
Fatal Frame 5
Fire Emblem Warriors
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Fire Emblem Three Houses

Those are some pretty big projects to work together on, especially that first and last one since they trust them to be a co-developer on a main line entry in two major series of their's and yet they don't have a rep in Smash yet outside of that Fatal Frame assist trophy, so I wouldn't be shock if either Kasumi from Dead or Alive or Ryu from Ninja Gaiden show up in Smash.

I really hope a Tecmo Rep is Ryu. Dead or Alive does not deserve to be in Smash, especially before a Tekken or Mortal Kombat Character.

Does anyone even care about that series outside of the fan service? I know the FGC doesn’t.

I think it could also be a few days before July 26th. That's when the new amiibo release. If memory serves, Joker got his release trailer about a week from a new amiibo wave.

I think it possibly means something though as it came from Sabi’s Nintendo source, just like the blue crab, bear and bird, and witch puzzle images, so I don’t get why people write it off so easily.

To be fair: I think the reason people are doubting it is because it didn't come from Sabi directly and she specifically stated on a tweet that she knew nothing about it (meaning it could very well not be Smash-related or even mean jack).

Even so... considering we're on a bit of a dry period, just waiting for Hero to drop... I don't see why not talk about it. Keeps us occupied in this thread for a few minutes, at least.

Fatmanonice also mentioned that she sent her source a PM about it, too, I think.

She also seems to be trying to keep the rabid fans off her back, and she does know it came from her source. Apparently he sometimes flat-out says things but is also kinda trollish when it comes to certain reveals in upcoming directs or whatever, which is why he posts random images as teases.

Well...Ryu is also technically a Dead of Alive rep. How much they'll take from his appearances in the series is another matter. (My guess would be not much.)

You also have to wonder if they at all care about the DLC stepping on the toes of Ultimate Alliance or FE. If they do, this doesn't seem like an ideal time for release, especially since the first half of the month was much more barren. So if it is still to happen in July, the final few days, the week following Three Houses' release, seems the best time, schedule-wise.

Considering how they even removed the Jack and Brave stuff in an update, I think they've wised up and won't be giving us any more clues.

What I am hoping for is to see if the different Heroes have different codenames, and possibly see what B-K's codename is.

No Mii Costume for Magnus either, but he was an unnecessary AT so I can see why he was removed. As for no Spirit, that is weird, but he wasn't that important in Uprising and the Spirits team probably didn't have the Sakurai bias that led to Uprising's overrepresentation in Smash 4.

I can't see him getting in over Viridi, Hades, Phosphora (Despite being an assist unless they can be upgraded) and Medusa tbh.

Aw shoot. Really? If I was in charge I'd still leave that stuff in but make it really cryptic. It will have the community speculate like crazy. Get them all abuzz about the next fighter. It's a good way to keep people excited.
