I still think the king of awful takes was the guy who said "Terry got into Smash because Sakurai was in a gay relationship with his creator."

(And yes, someone unironically said that in this very thread)
Wow, that is beyond parody. By an equally ridiculous logic like that, :ultsimon::ultrichter::ultchrom::ultkrool: were only in to pander to gays. Because hey, why not make brain dead conspiracy theories, right?

D-did this really happen? Ice Climbers has to be one of the worst games with a playable character in Smash.
Yes. The logic was that because Ice Climber sold over 10 million including the NES Mini and rereleases, it was more popular than SNK games.

What do you guys consider to be the most hypest character reveal?

If I had to guess it'd come down to:snake::sonic::4cloud::ultkrool::ultridley::ultjoker::ulthero:and:ultbanjokazooie:

Guess it came down to:snake:/:sonic:or:4cloud:
It's hard to just select just one, so I'll list my top 5:
:4megaman: - Easily the best way they could've introduced Smash for Wii U/3DS. Among new characters for the next Smash game, Mega Man was easily my most wanted. I've loved the little blue guy for as long as I can remember, so seeing just how flawlessly Sakurai brought him over was awe-inspiring. I must've watched his trailer north of 50 times. Just seeing him in a mainstream, full budget title at a time where the franchise really seemed to be up in the air was a treat.
:4robinm: - Robin was a character I knew I wanted in Smash and could work great, but I thought had no chance. Fire Emblem Awakening was my favourite game of 2013, so I was excited for anyone, but I had mostly resigned myself to Chrom as the realistic choice and Robin as a pie-in-the-sky never-ever daydream. Gematsu also dominated the speculation scene and touted Chrom, which really didn't help him. Waking up in July 2014 to watch what everyone assumed to be Shulk's trailer, only to see my personal long-shot pop up was amazing.
:4mewtwo:- While Mega Man was my most wanted newcomer, Mewtwo was my most wanted character overall. Words could not describe the sadness 9 year-old Garteam felt when he saw that Mewtwo, his second favourite character in Melee, had been cut from Brawl. I had strong hopes for Mewtwo's return in the base game, but he unfortunately wasn't there. Seeing his wire-frame pop up in the 50 Fact Extravaganza, confirming both his return and the inclusion of additional DLC characters could only be described in one great man's quote: "my ****".
:ultridley: - If Mega Man was the perfect character to introduce Smash for, Ridley was the perfect character to introduce Ultimate. Of all the characters I really wanted to see in Smash for Wii U, Ridley was only one who didn't make the cut. Likewise, it also appeared that he would never join Smash, with Sakurai seemingly set him out to the "too big" pasture. As such, seeing Ridley, the lost Smash character, make his return right when everyone was coming back was almost poetic. The missing piece everyone thought was lost had finally been put into the puzzle.
:ulthero2: - I had wanted Dragon Quest in Smash for a long time and I thought it was probably the most slept on third party for Smash, period. It's one of the biggest multimedia franchises in Japan, spawned an entire genre, and was basically conjoined with Nintendo for most of its life. Among the few who also gave Dragon Quest a look, most gravitated to Slime or Erdrick, but I always thought Eight was the best choice for his international appeal and unique abilities (although, looking back, I might've been a little biased to my favourite game in the series). Once the Erdrick rumours started coming out, I took his ensuing addition in stride and was just happy to have the series in Smash at all. When Eight and Munchie descended to save Eleven in the Hero trailer, it borderline didn't feel real. Just like Robin, this character I had rooted for but thought was impossible was able to beat the odds and join Smash.

Crawling out of my bunker, perhaps for real this time.

Brawl: :sonic:
I had skipped out on the Gamecube generation, so Melee was completely off my radar. But once I had learned Sonic was in Smash, my mind was blown, and I decided to try to pick Smash back up with Brawl, with fond memories of Smash 64. I don't think I played much of Sonic when he came out, I was more into Pit, Meta Knight and Pokemon Trainer. But Sonic was the one that opened a world of possibilities, and for my friend (a PS guy), Snake was his. I was mostly interested in playing the other characters though, as a lot of them from Melee I hadn't played before, and I still thought it was amazing being able to play as Peach and Bowser, the latter especially is a rarity to play as.

4: :4megaman::4pacman::4mii::4lemmy:
I was blown away when Mega Man was announced, the trailer was perfect--the cinematics, the music, everything built up into an amazing trailer. This was coming from someone who never played Mega Man, but got a lot of it through cultural osmosis. And if I were to try to be objective, probably the best character trailer out of all of them. Pac-Man was also an exciting pick, even though the reveal trailer was meh. I felt like, "Mega Man and Pac-Man revealed for the same game?! This is the ultimate celebration of gaming!" And I recalled feeling like there was no way they could top that, character wise. And I was also pretty hyped for the Miis, as it made perfect sense and allowed for a whole range of possibilities, and the trailer including Reggie and Iwata was perfect. But, wasn't a fan of them in action. And it was difficult for me to play as any of them, except the last one--when I saw the trailer for Bowser Jr., I first said, "Why?" Then when I saw all the Koopalings pop up, I thought, "this is amazing." Lemmy's my favorite, and not only did I love the idea of the character and the trailer, was really fun to play as, too. And I'll be honest--while I can now appreciate the importance of Smash 4 DLC's characters, particularly Cloud and Ryu, at the time I did not know who any of them were, and thought, "Thanks for saving me money on DLC, Nintendo." I was a different person back then. :chuckle:

Ultimate: :ultbanjokazooie::ultjoker:
Banjo-Kazooie was one of my favorite games on N64--better than Mario 64, even though the latter is the more important game having pioneered the genre. Back when it came out, Banjo-Kazooie were a huge phenomenon, and when Smash 64 came out a year later, something still felt missing. But after Rare was sold off, that dream was dead. And while I had always wanted them in, I didn't know there was a fanbase out there wanting them in like I did, and so felt like I was in a minority of 1. So, when Banjo & Kazooie were finally revealed, that was 20 years of futile hopes and dreams finally becoming a reality, and my favorite reveal of Smash in total.

And everything was nearly perfect--played exactly how I'd hope for, the music re-mixes are amazing, and the stage is probably the most involved and interesting stage in Ultimate (seeing it in VR mode for the first time the other day solidified that impression). And while I had said I'd go back to other characters, since they were released, I haven't really played anyone else outside of Random--they fit me like a glove.

In second place, it's certainly Joker--at the time, I was bummed given none of the new content in Ultimate appealed to me. I had played P3, and watched GB's Endurance Run of P4, so I was really hoping for something Persona coming in, for the music alone. And I was certain if Sega was getting another character in DLC, a Persona character was going to be it (though, looking back at my posts, I was more on the side of Jack Frost being the character). It renewed hope in me that perhaps the Fighter's Pass was what I was looking for, for new content that would appeal to me. And I was a bit disappointed when actually playing as Joker--felt fairly basic, with nothing jumping out at me as cool or fun to play. I had thought having a persona mechanic would make the character incredibly unique, but I was disappointed in the moves outside of Arsene giving Joker wings. If more moves were like that, I'd be far more interested in the character. But still so glad Joker, and more importantly, Persona is in Smash.

And I'll give an honorable mention to Hero, as I was not a fan of the trailer--at all, outside of thinking the alt characters looked better than the default. But after playing as Hero--quite fun, I have my issues with the play style and the command menu feels clunky playing, but enjoyable. So happy anniversary to Hero and Banjo & Kazooie being announced for Smash! A day I'll remember for a long time.

So, in order of most hyped for me when seeing (or hearing about) the reveal, I'd say: :ultbanjokazooie: :sonic: :4megaman: :4pacman: :ultjoker: :4mii: :4lemmy:

As of right now, these are my predictions for who is in Fighters Pass Volume 2. Without taking too much time, however, I will just briefly go over everything these characters have going for them and why I think these are the most likely characters.

CP6: ARMS Conglomerate - Rumors from very reliable and credible insiders seem to suggest that this ARMS character will be a conglomerate that will be more fighters that share the same slot, namely Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, and Min Min. As such, I do believe this is the route Nintendo will be taking for this character and I also think their is a possibility we could see even more ARMS characters as part of this slot.

CP7: Geno - I am a firm believer Geno is going to get included, and he will be the Banjo of this Pass. Sakurai has stated he really wanted him, CacoMallow has still not been deconfirmed yet, Geno's Mii Outfit from Sm4sh is still MIA, SMRPG songs getting copyrighted by Nintendo, which also happened with Banjo-Kazooie tracks and MEGALOVANIA, Smash Bros. Legacy C&D, insiders heavily referencing Geno and SMRPG, 2020 having a heavy Mario focus, especially on the Mario RPG's Ect. If their is one character I can safely say is most likely to get included, its easily Geno and I'll be shocked if he isn't in at this point.

CP8: Lloyd Irving - Namco is literally developing this game and they only have one rep with PAC-MAN, and the missing Namco Mii Outfits is REALLY suspicious in my opinion and I think the reason why they haven't returned yet is because they are planning to bring those outfits along with another Namco character.

CP9: Rayman - A lot of strange things have been happening with Rayman lately like the Ubisoft Club App thing, Rayman's trademark being renewed by a third-party company, just like what happened with Banjo & Kazooie, and the inclusion of Ubisoft Mii Outfits with Byleth. Not to mention the fact that Nintendo And Ubisoft have a strong relationship, so it wouldn't surprise me to see Ubisoft allow Rayman to get included, and I do believe he is the most likely Western rep at this time.

CP10: Sol Badguy - A more "out there" prediction, but I do believe Sol Badguy has a shot. Arc System Works recently got a Spirit event, which shows that Arc is willing to work with Nintendo on Smash, and the obvious fact that Sakurai loves fighting games makes me feel like he could definitely include another one, especially one that most people aren't expecting, kinda like Terry.

CP11: Rex & Pyra - Sakurai has wanted to include Rex during the base roster days, much like an ARMS character, but didn't happen due to Xenoblade 2's short release. Since we are getting an ARMS rep now, and the fact that Rex & Pyra always rank high on ballots, then its very likely that now just might be the time these two join Smash.

A few honorable mentions that almost made it to the list are Travis Touchdown, Ryu Hayabusa, and Rillaboom.

So does anyone remember which Smash rumor had "Demon's Souls remake" attached to it?
There was. One of those rumors that lists a bunch of stuff from different sectors of the industry. Like this:

-Half Life 3 to be announced in 2033
-George Costanza coming to Smash
-God of War 5 at Sony Splash and Crash conference.

Something along those lines, and a Demon's Souls remake was part of it.

You know, with all that new Merch and Crash not showing up at PS5 event, could Crash reveal be saved for Nintendo. Could that relationship also hint at SMASH??

Normal Opinion: If Sony somehow gets a character in Smash Bros, I think Kratos, Sackboy or Ratchet would be great picks.
Ascended Opinion: DEMON'S SOULS GUY OR BUST

So does this mean the DM was bogus because there was no Bloodborne?

CacoMallow has still not been deconfirmed yet
I mean I can say I petted a unicorn a minute ago and none of you would be able to deconfirm that.

Think what you will about Geno's likelyhood but please let CacoMallow die.

Thankfully it'll die within the month.

And it has no affect on Geno's chances, who aren't super high, but they're not in a bad spot either way. Whatever happens with ARMS will change speculation on him too, assuming they didn't announce CP7.

Well the fact that a Demon Souls Remake was shown and not Bloodborne definitely blows any credibility on that "DM", not to mention the ARMS part seems like it was piggybacking PapaGenos's video.

If a video leak is up on YouTube for 7 months and still isn't taken down, the only thing real about it is how much denial people are about it.
Some people only believed it in the first place because they thought it was "impossible" to mod in Mii Fighter costumes. Also because they support either Geno or Doomguy, the first of which is unlikely and the second is hard deconfirmed.

Either way, it's still denial at its finest because the main argument I've seen that explains why it's "real" basically disregards the entire principle of NDAs, which Nintendo use constantly.

I'm not even expecting Bethesda to get a rep anyways, and if they are, I think that it will be the Dragonborn from Skyrim.

You were SOOOO not alone. Banjo-Kazooie was one of the biggest games out there for the N64, outside of Japan. It really felt like it was missing from Smash, and every game since has been a reminder of how Banjo was such an icon, forgotten until now.

His reveal was just so hype. People were talking about Terry a lot and then there was this weirdly high quality reveal for Banjo. I was certain it was a hoax at first, but hot damn, what a reveal. One of the best days for those of us who have been following the series since the N64. I still chuckle everytime I open the game and select Banjo, and the music is so damn amazing and amazingly done, for a tribute to the original tracks.

Almost every newcomer in Brawl and Ultimate ranged from a solid pick to absolute hype overload, but I'll always feel a special fondness for the initial trio revealed for Smash 3DS and WiiU :4villager::4megaman::4wiifit:

Great, if they indeed go with her other appearance, and yes, I believe there would be some spoilers no matter who shows up in Fighter Pass 2.

Also, this was in the news the other days.
Missed opportunity for a Smash character, in either form tbh.

Honestly, even if they ggave us her Twili form as a Zelda echo, I think it'd work well. I just really don't like that the Twilight Princess character stuff is all out, at least give us the costumes back...

But yeah, Midna? Great choice. I'd put her at my #1 most wanted Nintendo character, but Urbosa's started to fight her for that and I can't decide who's winning, it changes each day.
I'm not even expecting Bethesda to get a rep anyways, and if they are, I think that it will be the Dragonborn from Skyrim.
I'm honestly so nervous about this. I don't know if (and I doubt) Bethesda will get a character, but oh man how I want to see this happen. Everyone points to the Doomguy interview, but I think it could be NDA-speak...but nobody considers looking into Bethesda properties that aren't DOOM.

I mean, come on - DovahKirby? Yes please. And we already have a dragon as a classic mode boss, and a memetic signature move whose purpose is to fling people off of cliffs...
