Still though, we should not count out the Coronavirus here. It feels kinda unlikely that one in the dev team catches it, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo will pause development ASAP if even one person gets it at Nintendo HQ. For good reason too: some of its symptoms really looks like the common cold and it can easily spread via asymtomatic people (carrying the virus without any symptoms). Japan has a major cluster of infected people already for that matter.

I'm guessing modern. It's been his look for ca. 20 years now, and the NES / retro costume's been (IIRC) an alternate for the longest time. If Ryu gets in the classic look is probably going to be featured a la Meta Ridley.

Since Zippo's credibility has been chewed up due to no direct announcement, I just would like to mention that King Zell is another insider who has his credibility on the line. He mentioned last year that there would be a Monster Hunter game for the Switch coming in 2020 yet no such thing has been announced. He also said Halo on the Switch would happen a few months ago.

If the next general direct arrives and neither of these two things get revealed then his credibility will be harmed greatly.

You guys realize directs are pre-recorded right? Doubt coronavirus would have any effect as an result.

To be fair, both Monster Hunter and Halo on Switch are big enough announcements that you can feasibly have them saved for E3. The latter in particular would be mindblowing to many since the idea of Microsoft's flagship franchise being on another system would be unprecedented.

Sakurai seems to have a lot of respect for a characters old-school roots, so I'd bet on Ryu Hayabusa getting the NES clothes as his default. But I feel like more than most potential characters, he should be able to have his 3D Era design as well.

Not that I believe Amiibo Theory nor the notion of anything Smash before E3, but can't a March Direct and Amiibo theory coexist assuming reveal and release are two separate things?

I've already said this several times before, but there's only been one instance when an amiibo was revealed and released only a month later.

Nothing is definite, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for any new amiibo in April. I think this is just another quiet restock just like they've done with several other amiibo last year.

There's no way Metroid prime 4 released this year. It seems that Retro studios is still building the team for the game. The dude could have easily read Zippo claim about Animal crossing direct and then add some bull**** after that.

I'm thinking that if he gets in he could come with both his classic and modern designs, but I'm quite torn on which of the two should be the default, since his modern design is more well known, yet the classic design is something that Sakurai would go for since he likes to emphasize on a character's history.

Honestly, I think that reddit post just screams "my uncle works at Nintendo". Also I don't really buy the statement "Metroid Prime 4 will be in it which is no surprise really", considering that Retro is still hiring people for certain positions. Personally I'm not expecting anything new about Metroid Prime 4 until next year.

I personally don't think any 3rd party publishers are going to license more than 1 character for FPv2, but you never know capcom

Doom Slayer and Chief are both green-scifi-military-action-hero-man, so if one is in the other is probably out.

Dante, Travis, and Sol Badguy are red-leather-edge-sword gang.

I don't think we'll get more than one jrpg character we will get no less than 3

I definitely think the current Square Enix hopefuls (Geno, 2B, Neku, Lara) are in a fight to the death as I can’t see more than three Square Enix reps

No third party company is getting more than one character in this pass, though I feel that's just basic logic talking. Genre's don't really matter much and if they did we wouldn't have gotten Joker and Hero, and kinda Byleth in the same pass. I'm personally only expecting one fighting rep but that's just me talking.
