I meant that the MonHun team wasn't happy about a hunter being in a fighting game as they said no to that for MVC3. All parties need to agree for the character to be included
That's completely different to them not being well received in Infinite though.

I'm probably just **** at wording cause I mean the MonHun devs didn't like a hunter being playable
I saw so many people claim this yet I haven't actually seen a single source that says the MonHun devs were against Hunter's inclusion in MvCI. The only time the MonHun devs were against this was in MvC3, which was in 2011. I haven't seen anything that implies that the MonHun devs still didn't like seeing a playable Hunter ever since then.
Seeing as I can't find a direct source either it seems I'm flatout wrong. My apologies

I wonder how many people Banjo ticked off. For me, it was like, "oh cool, another third party".

I mean, I was never on the hype train for Banjo so my response was kinda bland. I was more shocked by the fact that they finally included Mii Gunner at the end.

I mean, we have been waiting FOREVER to see Mii Gunner in Smash.

Banjo REALLY isnt a 3rd party tho. He was born as a Nintendo character and created to fit in with the Mario and DK gang. He truly was the last Nintendo icon with their own series NOT in Smash.

Isn't but is, basically. Clearly he was designed to fit the aesthetic of Nintendo in Rare's unique way but by all legal standards he is forcefully now a third party. So while he isn't REALLY third party...he's third party. XD

And isn't owned by Nintendo, so he is really a third party. It doesn't matter what one is "born as". It matters what they currently are when it comes to using the character in one's products. Ownership matters more than personal feelings in the world of business.

Yes, he felt like a missing Nintendo character, but was with legal issues even during Melee due to the timing of the buyout. Smash 64 is the only time he could've gotten in as a first(or second) party, essentially. He's been third party for ages. Unless Nintendo buys him back, he'll still be third party.

If Banjo is a Nintendo character then Cloud is a Sony character considering how strongly Sony's associated with FF7. The system, funding the game, handling the marketing which helped make JRPGs mainstream, Advent Children and the remake being a timed exclusive

Look at it this way

Nintendo and Rare were once basically married, Banjo and Kazooie were their babies

then Rare filed for divorce and hooked up with Microsoft

thus, B-K are in Microsoft's family now

although, Microsoft lets Nintendo visit B-K once in a while even tho B-K are under Microsoft's custody

It's worth noting that in all the 2ch threads about the Brave datamine and DQ rumors a lot of the sentiment was "Dragon Quest would be amazing in Smash but because the series isn't huge in the West I don't see it happening". It's a strong possibility that the fanbase just kept their heads down, much like Joker's fanbase, because it didn't really seem possible.
This is also particularly why like Reimu have gained more support.

"Banjo and Geno don't count as third-parties" is just an excuse first-party purists made up so they can hate on other third party characters and pretend they are not hypocrites.

He is a third party character, though. He's owned by Microsoft, a company that's not part of or directly connected to Nintendo.

you are a gentleman/gentlewoman and a scholar

While BK are technically third party, they are Nintendo characters.

Thank you all for agreeing with me.

And even then Rare were exploring the possibility of going beyond Nintendo as early as 1998 according to this chronology of the buyout (with Rare apparently having PS1 dev kits). It really accelerated in early 2002 though:

At the beginning of the year, Rare started their contacts with Microsoft for a possible purchase. Another company interested on Rare was Activision. About the same time, Rare already had Xbox and PlayStation 2 development kits as many sources from the company stated to IGN in late May, to get ready to what could happen. Let's remember that we're talking about January-February, and the idea of Rare developing for other systems was still a bad joke.

March - June: Computer and Videogames publishes, to everyone's surprise, that Rare could be purchased immediately by Activision (their position was "No comment"), and by doing so, they would be able to develop for every system. The source stated that Rare and Activision were very close to sign 'something'. However, in the end, the American company changed its mind because they couldn't beat Microsoft on the economic aspect.
At the time of the buyout it made a decent amount of sense: Microsoft's not only Xbox but also the lion's share of the computer industry. It looked promising at the time. Of course, didn't happen - but hindsight's 20 / 20.

If I'm allowed to briefly interrupt to shill for something:

If we ever get a Square series represented by only Spirits, I'd like it to be this one:

I know it's probably not happening, because it's a game that never left Japan, but... my God, it's an amazing game. Really ambitious for its time too. Came one year before Chrono Trigger.

Since there's basically no chance of getting a playable character from Live A Live, I'd love it if we could at least get the protagonists of each chapter as Spirits.

I'd like Star Ocean to get Spirits at least, myself. First Departure R hit Switch at the start of the month, and I'd love to see the series get a lil promotion this way, it's the perfect "first game" in the series for newbies too (though Second Evolution is regarded as the best).

I haven't really gotten that one third-party that really clicked with me. I haven't been upset with any of them, but I can't say I got that "jumped out of my seat" reaction either.

Joker's all right. Persona 5 looks like a cool game, and I do think he's unique. He just wasn't on my radar for several reasons.

Hero comes from a series that I wanted to see repped in Smash, so I'm happy in that regard. I'm just disappointed in how all of the creativity was seemingly shoved into a single move (and one that largely depends on luck at that). Take away that one move and you're left with a pretty standard swordfighter.

I guess Banjo was supposed to be the next Ridley and K. Rool for me. I never really hopped on the Banjo train, and I was skeptical of the two fitting in well with Smash. The character design wasn't for me, and I didn't see the moveset potential that others saw. Now that they're in Smash, I kinda feel like my concerns were validated.

Terry... Yeah, I don't have much to say about Terry. Didn't know much about him prior to his announcement, and he feels like an altered Ryu/Ken. Pretty indifferent.

Sakurai didn't just like Persona 5 and Fatal Fury, he gone on record that he loves them. He said that King of Fighters inspired him to make Smash Bros and he had interviews where he gushes over Persona 5 and it's style.

Also Hero was majority chosen for market seeing how they always mention Smash Bros with Dragon Quest XI S any time they get.
I’m gonna compare what content :ultcorrin:&:ulthero: brought

*Waluigi, Toad, Dixie Kong supporters has joined the chat*
I believe he said with their own series.

So it would be more like Isaac, Rhythm Heaven, and Advance Wars supporters joined the chat.
But forreal, give me WahLord, Dixie, and Captain Toad

this is fun. characters as members of the Nintendo family.
banjo was the child of divorce and acted up (nuts and bolts) and everyone gave up on him. then, momma, Nintendo set him straight and reminded him who he was.
geno is a godson to Nintendo. they knew him as a baby but lost contact over time. sometimes comes up in conversation at dinner but mostly ignored. but not actually relatedto the rest of the family.

and then there's Bayonetta the adopted kid after sega stopped supporting her. kinda wierd, kinda dark and edgy but still truly supported by the nintnedo family.

I will take it if it means Megalomania is added as a music track.

Yeah, classic Rare characters were a bad fit for Smash Bros.

Which one, Fates or Corrin DLC?

Fate's sales were decent at worst, even if you count three versions separate.

People keep saying :4corrin::4corrinf:sold badly but I never saw any proof for it.

“I don‘t care for the series, don’t care for the particular game and character, so therefore it sold like ****!”

Yeah! Live-a-live is a really cool game so I'd love to see some spirits! They should be part of Crono's spirit board if he gets in since they both have elements of time travel.

I'm not referring to Rare characters in general. I'm just saying people really exaggerated how unique Banjo would be, which is why I would've preferred the fanbase backing someone else.

Just an opinion. You're free to disagree.

I just find it funny how uncanny Banjo looks in Smash even compared to some more realistic fighters.

Yeah, I don't like the glass-eyed models, sue me.
