Boy, remember how the Grinch Hoax saw absolutely no legal action from Nintendo? Good precedent right there.

And just so we can nip this revisionism in the bud, plenty of Ultimate music tracks were being uploaded before launch because of the pirated version, and almost none of them survive to this day.
I doubt YouTube videos getting taken down have any bearing of new **** coming to Ultimate.

*yawn* Great... *yawn*

I've decided that if nothing of particular interest is going to happen right now, and news doesn't come. I might as well call it a day, then come back on the 1st of January.

If something you think interests me, just page me.

See you all next year.

The Cacodemon+Mallow hat videos were posted as a WEBM on 4chan in the first place so taking them down was never going to be an option. Literally hundreds of people would’ve seen it in seconds, many would’ve saved it because it looked good and if it got taken down then... do you really think no one would notice? It’d take seconds for someone to repost it as a new thread saying “previous thread got deleted” and at that point it’s confirmed. Taking things down is only damage control if it hasn’t spread yet; if they HAVE spread then taking them down fans the flames.
The Ken leak was also posted on 4chan first, right? Same thing. Nintendo can’t file takedowns on image boards like they can YouTube afaik so it’ll have way too much traction for them to do anything by the time they notice.

That’s the way I see it at least. Nintendo’s best move is to not do anything and hope people forget about it.

In a similar note, the 4chan text leak that described the Kencineroar trailer in its entirety never got taken down. Neither did any threads regarding datamines. People are taking this into consideration as if it was a Youtube video or something on Nintendo's own site. For some anonymous message board, a leak would be way harder to fully supress compared to these places.

I'm personally leaning towards fake, mostly because the timing of Doom costumes + SMRPG costumes seems odd by now, plus the disconfirmation lists, but Cacomallow will be one of these things that no one will be able to prove true or false with absolutely certainty until we get CP5 or the creator comes out with proof they did it.

Guys I have an official announcement to make, my most wanted third party character is officially

CARMEN SANDIEGO

Discuss, if you think about she qualifies and is perfect/desirable in many ways. The only thing I'm unsure of is Japanese presence

Are you serious?
Absolutely.

Her first appearance was the 1985 video game
The franchise has had many installments since. (including quite a good amount on Nintendo systems
She had a game specifically for Japan because the original was popular
She'd represent a brand new genre never seen in Smash with a playable character
She just oozes a lot of style and grace
More female representation is a nice bonus
She's also a villain for the most part, the closest we have to a female villain is Wendy and Dark Samus
She's still relevant today and well known in English speaking countries

I don't think she's likely, but looking up past discussions of her, it seems people are pretty "thinking about it, that would be awesome"

And just in case you didn't realise, Carmen Sandiego 100% qualifies for Smash. The only thing holding her back is I'm not sure how much she's known in Japan

I need to clean up my bookmarks at some point. I should still have an illegal upload of F-Zero Medley that was removed pretty quick bookmarked.

Didn't the ESRB leak also originate on 4chan? That's one leak Nintendo definitely took action against (at least the YouTube reuploads. I can't remember if they tried to get the pictures removed). They also took action against the leaked Roy and Ryu videos.

nintendo takes action against real leaks once they're uploaded to youtube (bowser jr/shulk videos, roy/ryu, WOL gameplay) because getting stuff taken down on the wild west that is 4chan isn't worth the hassle - whether or not they originate on 4chan, however, is irrelevant, as they will absolutely murder that **** once a webm is turned into a video and uploaded to youtube

unless, say, the webm shown in that youtube video isn't from a real leak, in which case they don't give a ****

There's a multitude of reasons why that Geno and Doom leak is fake. Nintendo not taking it down, the fact it conveniently shows Mii Costumes instead of the actual fighters, and the usage of Ken in a very meme-esque way.

Also, while I know this will upset some people when I say this, I pretty much toss out anything that makes Geno claims. Given what kind of characters we've been getting and the apparent themes of Ultimate DLC, I wouldn't bet on Geno showing up IMHO.

The funniest part is that if that video is real there's still a good chance Slayer and Geno are costumes too

Isn't this just more reason for him to try and include Doom content to Smash, even if it's only as Mii costumes?
Idk, calling a game “the father” of an entire genre really suggests that he wouldn’t settle for mere Mii Costumes.

I'm pretty on the fence when it comes to the Cacodemon leak:
On the one hand, no one has really had major success in replicating the models in a working fashion, particularly the jiggle physics of Mallow.
On the other hand, things like Artsy Omni's Ray-Man leak and the Grinch leak show just how far some people are willing to go for their leaks.

On the one hand, fake leaks tend to go for the most fan requested options to get the most exposure, which certainly fits Geno and Doom Marine. Real leaks tend to be a little more grounded and have characters outside the Smash Bubble.
On the other hand, this is the game that gave us Ridley, K. Rool, and every character in the franchise. Fan service has been a major theme of Ultimate since the game's formal unveiling. Likewise, Geno and Doom Marine have plenty going for them, so seeing them join the battle isn't that weird.

On the one hand, there was that Greentext leak that predicted Goemon, Team Rocket, and Mallow as Mii costumes. The former two were far harder to predict than Mallow, so it's likely that was legitimate insider info.
On the other hand, even the most accurate insiders have had pieces of faulty information. We're still waiting on that Minecraft content, Vergeben.

It doesn't suggest anything about Smash.

"Fighters are the only way to honor a character" is a fan-made concept. Sakurai has shown numerous times that he doesn't have any problem adding non-playable content from series he likes. Hell, we just got Resident Evil spirits and it's one of the biggest video game series around.

Well the leak is probably fake anyways, so who knows at this point what Sakurai would do.

Keep in mind that Doom costumes could easily come with Dragonborn.

After the Resident Evil spirits that came outta nowhere I wouldn't be surprised if other big franchises like Doom, Elder Scrolls, Tekken or Devil May Cry (to mention a few) get a similar treatment.

I mean, we have this which comes pretty close. That guy even got the jiggle physics to work.

I'm not saying that the Cacomalllow leak is even PROBABLY true.
I just lean toward real because it's concordant with other facts.
1. Bethesda has openly said that they've talked to Nintendo about Smash.
2. An old leak that predicted Mii Costumes for Rocket Grunt and Goemon (not exactly safe picks) also predicted a Mallow hat. I believe this to be 90% likely true, which is why I deem Geno "imminent".

Plus, the leak itself is of decent believability in a vacuum.

This leads me to 60% probability of the leak being legit. Even if it isn't, Doom Slayer and Geno are both extremely likely anyway.
TBh the grinch leak was concordant with other happenings. The trademarks, Sakurai considering the Chorus Men, Isaac and Shadow missing assist trophies etc etc and that was as fake as that Mario Splatoon DLC leak

If the Cacodemon leak is real, it almost assuredly means Doom Marine and Geno are coming.

While Wave 1 of the Mii costumes came with the returning Tails and Knuckles costumes to match Joker, all of the new costumes were from Persona. Likewise, Wave 2's new costumes were exclusively Dragon Quest, we didn't see anything like a Sora or Tifa costume. Wave 3 didn't have any Microsoft costumes, Banjo or otherwise, so we really can't use that for data.

The only exception to this trend thus far is Wave 4, which featured new Mii fighter costumes from series that weren't Fatal Fury. However, not only was Terry's pack much of more a general SNK pack than a Fatal Fury pack, but it makes sense to have costumes from KoF and Samurai Showdown given how interconnected the SNKverse is. The same really can't be said for Doom and Elder Scrolls or Super Mario RPG and Square's other series.

FP5 is KOS-MOS.
After Haradas comment about a remaster for Xenosaga failing a market analysis, her chances honestly look grim, because there is now almost no motive to add her in the game.

Only hope she has to get in over Lloyd or Heihachi is that Sakurai is lowkey a HUGE fan of Xenosaga.

Even if Sakurai was a big fan of xenosaga that may not mean much considering Nintendo picked the DLC and Sakurai probably had no say on who they decided would be taken into consideration beforehand

I think it would be an absolute travesty for Smash to miss out on a franchise like Devil May Cry.

Sure, Resi got spirits. It’s also not a franchise that most thought would get a playable fighter. Dante is, like, a perfect fit for Smash and is one of THE hype makers for any fighting game.

You better believe if they pass over him or make him a spirit I’ll be all over that as a gigantic missed opportunity. Great character, great potential for moveset, stage, and music.

While I don’t think he’d be pick 5, I think the releases of DMC on Nintendo platforms is good. I’d also say if DMC doesn’t get spirits for the release of DMC3, Dante will be looking extra good.

I haven’t been paying much attention for the last few weeks because of backlog (I just went ham with the GameStop B2G2 pre-owned sale), and I probably will continue to be scarce until there’s a reveal announcement. Stuff has gotten boring tbh.

I don’t even want to imagine that scenario.

But thankfully, most of the franchises you listed have plenty of moveset potential (not sure what Leon or Jills moveset would’ve been like), so I think we won’t have to worry about that. (I hope, at least)
