It can be a tricky argument to be sure, but I'm inclined to agree that book Geralt and CDPR's Geralt are different enough characters. Adapting something into another medium will always introduce significant differences even if one is trying to be really faithful to the source material; fitting another medium entirely (Tom Bombadil would not work in the LotR films at all, I'd argue - so cutting him's acceptable), or errors / mistakes.*
*(Nuclear Gandhi is arguably the most famous example here - it's due to an underflow error. Gandhi's the lowest agression score - just +1 out of 10 - of all AI leaders in Civ I, and learning the tech Democracy lowers the agression rating by 2. However, the devs didn't account for this, so -1 turns the pacifist Gandhi into a 255 warmonger of nukes. Needless to say, Nuclear Gandhi's hilarious.)
