Night Gale
Smash Ace
It's hard to keep up with this s***. Is Capcom out of the running for the fifth spot? If so
Fast travel is available but there's no point using it more often than not. I cannot think of any other game where the preferred method of travel is taking the long way. Every goddamn time.
You also forgot to point out that the camera and controls can be problematic. The Ps4 port addressed most of my criticism but not all of it. The action is unconventional; although you can fight regularly with grounded kicks and punches, it is more effective to float in the air and drop kick s***, or search for nearby objects to throw at enemies (Raven does not have to search for throwable objects, but I will address her superiority in a moment). However, this is all meaningless if your ass hasn't figured out how to maneuver the f***ing camera. It's hectic and feels clumsy and you can never button mash. You have to time your attacks and there's too many goddamn ways to move around, and during all of that, you also have to be aware of the camera. It's complicated and overwhelming at first. With that being said, when it clicks, it is worth the hassle. Holy s***.
Kat is uncoordinated af by nature, so it's rather fitting that the fighting can be janky as all hell. The second game finally corrects this in the form of Raven, button mashing and all, but she is only usable in very small sections of it, including a dungeon-style challenge mode, and a free dlc segment. You can team up with her for a mission or two and those five minutes are some of the most action-packed in the entire series. I beat both games once. The introductory portions of the game aren't worth revisiting a second time imo, so I chapter select instead starting that s*** all over again. However, due to the level-up system, beating the game a second time without upgrading Kat's abilities could make for an interesting challenge.
I spent a lot of time chucking npcs into the abyss because the game lets you be a total A-hole without consequence.
I rate both of them a 7.5/10. I've played better but they cost less than a Ps2 game right now so why not? The concept is highly orginal and it is entertaining. I like its setting and characters. The story definitely has its moments.
Thanks for coming to my Gale talk.
You forgot to mention that damn near everyone who got the first game got platinum trophies because it isn't discouraging. I am not a completionist or an achievement hunter but I did it because that s*** was reasonably obtainable and honestly worthwhile. I did not plat the second game because although the timed challenges are enjoyable for the most part, every side quest except for the stunt movie ones and 100 man battle at the end were terrible. I couldn't complete them all. I swear, the game goes out of its way to make you hate dogs.snip
