I'm totally OK with Nightmare or another SC character getting into Smash. Also, it's totally possible to have two fighting game characters in a row, as we had two RPG characters in sequence before. Let's analyze the genres:

Joker (Role-playing, social simulation)
Hero (Role-playing)
Banjo-Kazooie (Platforming, action-adventure)
Terry (Fighting game)
Fighter #5 (???)

Honestly, the lack of characters from FPS's in smash annoys me. Do you think they'll add a character from another genre this time around? Let's discuss genres.
It probably won't happen since the genre pretty much faded away and is, from what I'm aware, pretty much only in the west, but old school adventure games like King's Quest and Monkey Island. King Graham is a never-ever character I'd love to see.

Sheesh what is all this? What's with all the talk about Nightmare and KOS-MOS? Was there a leak implying these characters might be in the game? Or are we all arguing over nothing?

Yeah, I figured it was just that, but it was too easy.

I'm not sure if anyone has commented on this, but I'm curious as to how Fatman came up with his alleged three frontrunners, (I'm talking about Lloyd, Nightmare and Sol). According to him, these are three characters who are circulated a lot within his insider circle. However, Sabi's sources directly contradict these rumors, with him saying "It seems like nobody has heard of Lloyd as FP5". Now, I know it's obvious that Sabi and Fatman have completely different leak avenues, but if both leakers are to be trusted, it proves that there is a massive black hole of information in at least one of their leaking sources.

I'm going to put both Sabi and Fatman in good faith and assume that both of them are telling the truth. If that's the case, can we really be so sure to deconfirm a character simply by the reasoning of "my sources hasn't heard of them"? If Sabi's sources have missed Lloyd, what does that say about Fatman's sources?
Fatman is a wannabe. He's no different than any of us.

Fatman gets his info from Sabi's inner circle, and his words should not be taken as gospel, especially since they're only rumors and not confirmed leaks. He's, by his own admission, just a speculator, albeit slightly better informed than others, and he's gotten things wrong in the past.
I'd hesitate to call him informed considering he's always wrong.

Need that expeditiously
New Dig Dug looks pretty cool but Sakurai is a fan of old designs.

Hell, Hero was gonna be Squirtle-heavy and slightly larger than Ness according to dataminers when they first dug up "Brave" data, which could've meant he was originally just the size of a munchkin like his original drawings.

So Dig Dug probably would've been that weird tiny dude who beats the **** out of you with a tire pump.

holy **** i keep forgetting Kiryu exists

Yakuza is an amazing set of games, it's just a shame we already have Joker and people will beat me up on the street if I bring up Kiryu because "uhm ackthually we already have a sega rep you sonic-loving-privileged tart" and they throw me off a bridge or something.
Not going to lie, but if we do end up getting Kiryu I hope his reveal is that he's playing Smash somewhere and ends up somehow getting transported into the game.

Nothing is ever too wacky for Yakuza is it? :4pacman:

There are a ton of fighters that are important to FGs in general, and there isn't really a trifecta. Maybe more a pentagon?

Street Fighter, [insert any SNK game], [insert any ArcSys game], Mortal Kombat, and Tekken are the pivotal pieces of the puzzle.
Ngl Sol would actually make a ton of sense and I'd be REALLY hyped if he was announced.

It's really important to note that GG was actually one of the only 2D fighters to make any sort of impact in the 90's outside of Capcom or SNK ones, so in a way it would kinda complete the trifecta.
2D fighters
Sorry if you missed that bit

I’m not really familiar with KOS-MOS, what makes her & Xenosaga so special that it deserves a Smash roster spot? Especially over the likes of Tekken, Tales, Soul Calibur & Dark Souls.

The character design is neat. But she’d feel out of place alongside the other third party characters IMO. From what I can see the Saga games didn’t review that well either, have they gained a cult following over time?
I've never played Xenosaga but I know enough of the character from her appearances in super robot wars and X zone to know that it's probably moveset potential.

She can summon cannons, lazer swords and other weapons to fight and she jumps around a lot, I'm imagining it being something like Zero suit Samus combined with Megaman.

I think a Soulcalibur character (whether it's Nightmare, Sophitia, Yoshimitsu, or someone else) is generally likely, but you know what would make it even more likely?

The announcement of Soulcalibur VI getting a Switch port with its own system-exclusive character. If that gets announced at the Game Awards, I could see the reveal of a Soulcalibur character in Smash coming not too far behind.

Would probably break down if they just replayed Soul Calibur 2's trailer but with the Soul Calibur 6 models...

And with Necrid announced for DLC.

He's never gotten anything right? He seems pretty trusted in the Geno community.

I'm getting so many mixed messages about this guy, lol.

While he gets things wrong, he does still have access to an insider discord, so he at least hears some stuff.
That's all fun and dandy, but if the person is always wrong then their "access" is useless.

That's the only place you'll find respect for the guy since he's a massive Geno fan.

He has insider info because he's in Sabi's circle, but none of it is actually useful because it never led us to a newcomer. Simply put, he keeps the Geno thread updated on insider information from Sabi, but he doesn't actually leak. He's not someone worth following as a result. Does that make sense?

Because Yoshi is a sub-series of Mario. If Xenoblade were a sub-series of "Xeno", it would still be ordered by when the series started, like with Mario.
The Donkey Kong series is also in the wrong spot, being after WarioWare even though it predates the Super Mario series. This and Wario is in the wrong spot since his series debuted before Bowser Jr. and Rosalina & Luma.

Shulk's misplacement could also be because Nintendo doesn't have the rights to anything pre Xenoblade Chronicles, thus Shulk only represents his game and later.

Or it's an inconsistency/oversight and Shulk's placement in a roster is not an official confirmation whether or not an the Xeno series is an official thing or not.

tbh I would like this idea more for a Travis Touchdown reveal, especially since the plot of No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again is basically him getting sucked into a possessed game console.

Honestly, he’s trusted in the Geno community because his speculation usually points in Geno’s favor despite the fact it usually has no merits.

Fatman is a longtime member who’s cool and has done a lot for Geno’s Smash fanbase, I don’t think it’s a surprise.

His speculation is also interesting, and he has even said not to take him 100%. It could lead to nothing, but people still like to listen.

The brains of Geno posters: Geno! Geno! Geno! Geno!

I guess what bugs me about the whole thing is my own experience in "insider" circles. I wrote for a website a long time ago and would get some information that the public didn't know from time to time. If something didn't pan out, it wasn't becasue it was leakbait or a rumor, it's because it got cancelled. An example would be a Sega contact that told us about a Valkyria Chronicles trilogy being in the works, which eventually didn't happen.

The Smash "insider" scene seems to work completely different from my own experience and just seems like a constant web of lies and betrayal. How can you trust anyone in a scene like that?

For some reason I thought Woofa was supposed to be this guy when I played Pac-Man party (I was much younger than I am now and just as bamboozled by this idea). Also, when looking him up I found out that there is a Pac-Man game that adds a bunch of new Pac-Ghosts. One of them is named Kinky and I find this more hilarious than I should.

So from what I gather, Sabi and Fatman are in the same circle, but Sabi is more careful and cautious about what he says to maintain his status as a "leaker". Whereas Fatman is more open about what's going on within the leaker circle, thus more opinionated and tends to jump the gun on things by reporting on false leakbait. I think his word can potentially be useful, but as trustworthy as your typical 4chan leak. And that's not to talk down on Fatman at all, since there are some 4chan leaks that turn up true.

The way I've described fatman is that he's a dog walking around the table while the family is eating dinner. He's not getting actual information, he's getting information that is already largely considered useless.

The point of contention with me and that whole thread last night was basically me being bothered by the absolutism surrounding it all. The "KOS-MOS and Reimu are DEFINITELY not happening" assertions (assertions that NO other insider/leak have said publicly), which I'm confused by if we're not supposed to take it as 100%. I don't really want to bring it up in there anymore as I've made peace with the thread after a terrible first impression, but it's still something I'm struggling to understand.

By if they guess fighters correctly. Vergeben, for instance, is one of the few leakers who have had a solid fighter prediction track record. He's not a pleasant fellow, but if he says a specific fighter is in, they are most definitely in.

I don’t like picking things apart with buzzwords or things that mean nothing. Even the geno comment was a commentary about the current state of the geno thread, which was pretty damn awful. Being ridiculously bias towards Fatman is honestly pissing me the **** off. They’re not supporters for a character, they’re a cult.
