Known leaker here; my source finally gave me some permission to tell you who character 5 actually is.

People who think that character 5 is Goku and Spongebob are actually wrong on this one; but they are right that character 5 didn't originate in video games.

That is because character 5 is actually... TOM AND JERRY!!!

I don't have that many details, but I have a 100% record so far. My source has allowed me to reveal that yes, animated Sakurai will present this trailer at the TGA 2019. Tom and Jerry have always been popular in Japan, and they are also very iconic in America; So what better character to end on then Tom and Jerry?

And yes Jimmy Neutron is character 4 of Fighter Pass 2, along with a Captain Sheen echo.

I don't know about upgrades to Echo Fighter but I fully expect random 3D models to get turned into Mii Costumes. Like we get a Persona 5 or King of Fighters stadium character in a few months for no apparent reason other than "hey, we've got them lying around and the license holder is fine with it".

I mean, at the same time, ALL of those also apply to many other characters, most of which don't have the setback of being content in the game already.

Characters like Sora and Phoenix Wright are popular on fan polls (even more than Shantae, and especially if other spirits/ATs are included), characters like Edelgard or Reimu can add more female characters, and characters like Dante and (again) Phoenix Wright could theoretically promote upcoming Switch games. And none of those characters have content in the game yet.

What is Phoenix Wright going to do? Make a court case that you should lose your stock?

Honestly the whole AT/spirits deconfirmation is more of a caseto case scenario...

For example we all know that a RE character isn't happening for fp5, or even fp6,7 or 8... why? because they likely know which are those characters already and since they know noone of them is resident evil, they just made a bunch of cool promotional re spirits.


Same happens with ATs or like with Rex, when they cemented the decision of who was an AT or a spirit, they already knew the identity of teh whole FP.

But on teh other hand, if you have... say, a list... of 10 extremely requested smash bros candidates, number one and number two are already in the game, number 3 was added via DLC, number 4, 5, 6 and 7 didn't made it, so they made them assist trophies as a consolation prize, and number 8 made it in teh roster as an echo. and number 9 is another AT. they aren't going to magically choose number 10 just because everyone more popular was made an assist trophy the next time they choose to put a higly requested character via DLC.

If your point is that, given the opportunity to add more DLC characters than planned, characters higher on the list are more likely to be added--even if they already have spirits or assist trophies--then I agree.

Saber would be amazing in Smash. A character wielding an invisible sword of highly super compressed air, that has enough force to launch boulders weighing tons nearly over the horizon, let alone an entire army. That'd be a win in my book, and imagine if her Excalibur Final Smash took place in the same spot that she face Caster, at night, in the water, by the bridge. With the city's lights and skyline surrounding her as her foes vanish into the pillar of light. Yeah, Saber being in Smash would be legendary, at least to me.

Even ignoring UMvC3, he has a ton of potential. This is probably my favorite take on Phoenix in Smash.

I've found that basically any time I've been like, "Bruh, why THAT character?", I see them in action with gameplay and seeing them in-engine, and I'm instantly in love with it. It's just the influence new Smash characters has over me.

Sure I didn't get Resident Evil, and I very well may never get a playable Leon Kennedy in Ultimate. That hurts. It sucks. He was my most wanted.

However, I really wanted Chrom in Wii U, but got Robin instead. Robin is super fun.

Likewise, if it turns out to be Phoenix Wright or Ammy, I'll probably ****ing love it. If it's Yuri Lowell instead of Lloyd Irving, I'll be disappointed that it isn't Lloyd, but I'm likely to just absolutely love something about Yuri.

I may come off as a hardass, but I'm sure I'll love whatever happens.

Jon from Gamexplain has thoughts about speculation. I hope his guess about FP5 is right

I like Jon as much as the next guy, but I can't agree with any of his arguments right there.

First off: "Every final character is anti-climatic."

The greatest flaw of this statement is that he claimed Corrin was the last DLC character in Smash 4, which isn't true because the final DLC was Bayonetta, which is the entire opposite of anti-climatic.

Second: "Mii costumes don't deconfirm because we already have different costumes resembling playable characters in the base game"

No, you can't put base costumes and DLC costumes in the same bag. Why? Simple, because it has been explicitly stated that several costumes were made to compensate the character's absence as playable. Just go back to the November 2018 direct and Banjo's stream and see what Sakurai said about Rex (he even brings the former later in the video) and Sans, or at this article where he talks about Geno.

Third: "People are only assuming the last character is third-party because everyone else is."

While this is true to an extent, it's not just because of the characters, but also because Nintendo has, and is still throwing statements that do nothing but play in favour of third-party characters, like Reggie's comments regarding Joker being symbolic to the Pass, Sakurai's Famitsu column in December 2018, and Shuntaro Furukawa's statements on Smash's importance.

Fourth: "A contradiction is assured to come"

That's just playing with possibilities, but they're still just that: possibilities. Just as he can claim that nothing assures that these "patterns" will stay like that forever, the same can be said about the opposite.

Again, I like Jon's videos, but I honestly think his arguments here weren't very solid.

Yes, you said "some." The issue is that you said some, when it was really all. That makes a big difference.

When every one of the points can also be used to bolster multiple other characters' chances, Shantae herself doesn't have as much to stand out, nevermind overcome the spirit issue. A rising tide raises all ships.

I thought that guy was flater found to be a fraud. Also Hero and Banjo were pretty close to be open secrets. I know he got the fact that Luminary was the default skin right, but lucky guess can happen (especially since, again, the character was an open secret).
Also didn't he said that frisk would be in the fighter pass? I feel like saying just "he knew Sans was a mii costume" isn't telling the whole story.

Don't take slight statements as immediate confirmations. Don't count your chickens until they hatch

With this in mind you have to accept that a series that already has some spirits or music in the game is unlikely. Atleast for the first Fighters Pass. The plan might be different in the future.

I don't know. The whole idea is that it's all together in one category. Under the same series symbol. It would require them to reorganize things. It would mean that new Spirit battles for the same characters would have to be made. It just seems highly unlikely with the initial plan Sakurai made and how everything is being set up.

Remember, he decided how the DLC was going to be way back when the game was complete. He could have changed his mind now, but at that time there seems to be a clear vision of how these packs are going to work.

Yeah, the Fighter Pack is definitely focusing on adding new worlds. After that, maybe the rules change. Remember, this stuff was all planned from launch so I can't really see them holding something back without it being Dragon Quest-tier important (the DQ11X release livestream confirmed it was meant for launch but pushed back because of music royalties).

Unless we're only getting 2 or 3 characters after the Fighters Pass, I don't see why they would deviate from the "multiple characters you buy individually or together in a pass" format.

I think characters will still come with some music and spirits as usual, but I could also see not all fighters coming with their own stage going forward, especially if it's a character from a series that already has plenty of Smash stages (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, etc.), and especially since it could potentially free up enough time and resources for an extra character or two. Unless it's a character from a series completely new to Smash, in which case they'll likely come with a stage as usual as well.
