I seem to remember the "the 4th character will be a female character that nobody wants" rumor from 4chan had quite a few people hopping on the rumor, and some people thought the 4th challenger pack character would be Tracer due to Overwatch switch merch showing up on the same day. Then after the SNK leak, some people thought the SNK rep would be either Mai Shiranui (this was before we found out she couldn't appear due to CERO's guidelines), Nakoruru (likely due to rumors of a female character with throwing weapons), or even Fio from Metal Slug (due to a mecha rumor that was likely made by a different anon on 4chan).

Female demand really like, exploded that day. I wa speeking around at GameFaqs and there were rumors of Morrigan floating around.

I don't see any world in which an AT gets promoted to a playable character. If they were planning on doing it, they simply wouldn't have made them an AT, right? Just doesn't add up.

Could happen post-pass since ATs were definitely decided before the DLC.

We're in uncharted territory regarding multiple seasons of DLC, but they aren't exactly restricted here. They could easily fill up three seasons with characters that are not Assist Trophies or Spirits if they wanted to. It just comes down to what Sakurai and Nintendo want.

I literally had a dream that Rex would be our free Season 2 starter, much like Piranha Plant.

The only Smash related dream that I've ever had involved Elma from Xenoblade Chronicles X being revealed as one of the DLC fighters. Not sure why it was her that appeared in my dream instead of Rex (I've never even played XCX), but it was so ******* surreal.

...I've actually had coworkers jokingly refer to me as a prophet because I'm really good at predicting things, so maybe...?

Dragon Ball FighterZ still had Android 17 be a part of 18's moveset despite 17 becoming a DLC fighter months later.

Also, post-pass DLC should be better at responding to complaints about characters not being playable, in a similar way to how Mewtwo was 4's first DLC fighter.

Eh...to be fair, we were waiting for that second SE rep, and waiting to see if Banjo could be the second Grinch survivor or if they'd go for more mainstream Microsoft games. Hell, back when the Mii costume theory reigned supreme, you could say it felt like a "waitlist" for Capcom and Namco reps.

Because if before spirits was used as an argument to debunk characters, now the fanbase is using it to follow the idea that somehow these characters are now at the top again and there are no other characters to choose from which is kinda jarring given the DLC so far.

Known leaker here; my source finally gave me some permission to tell you who character 5 actually is.

People who think that character 5 is Goku and Spongebob are actually wrong on this one; but they are right that character 5 didn't originate in video games.

That is because character 5 is actually... TOM AND JERRY!!!

I don't have that many details, but I have a 100% record so far. My source has allowed me to reveal that yes, animated Sakurai will present this trailer at the TGA 2019. Tom and Jerry have always been popular in Japan, and they are also very iconic in America; So what better character to end on then Tom and Jerry?

And yes Jimmy Neutron is character 4 of Fighter Pass 2, along with a Captain Sheen echo.

Imagine having Sakurai apologize for not including your favorite character, getting a bunch of content to make up for it, and then getting that character anyways. I'd be so ****ing mad.

Why? You'd get the character you wanted.

A few pngs, three songs (one of which I don't think is even that great), and a costume for a fighter that I don't enjoy using doesn't satisfy my needs for XC2 content in Smash.

To be fair, that's an android 17 from a different time period, in the same vein like how the 3 Gokus and Vegetas are.

I don't really think any have much of a chance except Geno, if I'm honest, and I say this as someone who has Dixie as their most wanted character left.

Everything seems impossible until it happens. Using the logic we have right now, based on past experiences, I'd agree that a character relegated to an Assist Trophy is likely staying there (which hurts because one of my most wanted characters is stuck in that damn thing).

But who knows? We've never had multiple seasons of DLC until now, so anything's possible. If Sakurai wants to take Color TV-Game 15 out of the Assist Trophy and into the battlefield, he'll make it happen.

Geno is the only one I could ever see happening out of these, honestly, and even that seems like a longshot. The rest range from "maybe next game" for Dixie or Rex to "probably never happening" for folks like Ninten.

Not sure what makes you think I dislike Shantae, but I don't think indie characters, especially western ones, will be in Smash.

It doesn't help that responses to indie characters' minor appearances are more positive than Waluigi/Isaac/Rex backlash.

Shovel Knight AT? "Well, at least he's in somehow." Shantae spirit? Make fan art depicting Samus acting like Shantae. Sans Mii costume? Act like you're actually playing as Sans (who, to be fair, doesn't need to have his proportions distorted to work as a Mii costume)

Considering there's Janemba, Broly, and Cooler who canonically shouldn't even exist, I'm going to bet they're more going for more moveset variability then they are importance. JTurns out that you get a lot of forms being the protagonist and all.

My thoughts on spirit upgrades before recent events: Eh I don't really care. It'd be nice if they happened, but I'm not holding my breath and I would honestly rather have new franchises introduced anyway.

My thoughts after the RE spirit event: Sakurai I am begging you to please save my wife from PNG Hell, she deserves better than life as a one-star spirit.

That's all of the DBZ fighting games, really lol. 4 Gokus with a matching number of Vegetas along with at least 3 Gohans and multiples of others. it's because the franchise is around 30 years old, so you've had 30 years of growth and differing movesets for these characters. The only way to fit it all in is to simply have different manga/anime arc versions of the characters lol.

Naruto was the same way with the Ninja Storm series. You ever play them? By the last game, I think there were at least 6 Narutos and Saskues along with 3 Kakashis. It was nuts; half the roster was just the two main characters lol.

No, I still think they aren't going to happen.

What I'm saying is, that I don't necessarily think folks should tell themselves and others, "IT'S HAPPENING!" until it happens once. If it happens once, I personally don't think it wouldn't happen again. That seems like it'd be a big deal to fans, so they'd want to capitalize on it more.

Granted, I don't really even know who they'd upgrade. It seems like an arbitrary decision to make. Geno seems obvious. I'd probably relegate the choices to characters who are Legend Tier Spirits tbh.

I also still disagree with the idea that suddenly the game has changed for base game spirits. Again, could they be added? Sure. But I don't see the case for it aside from a hypothetical that only applies to the characters those who support it want. That's not a slight against you or anybody else, it's just an observation.

Like, not that I want to be a **** about it. But the fans who suggest it typically want the same characters. Some ruder people on GameFAQS have suggested that people only latch onto the idea because it means they can still hope for their most wanted, but I don't think that's an entirely wrong assessment of the situation.

Does anyone have the feeling that FP5's reveal will be earlier than the game awards? Because it seems like the disconfirmations from Insiders are ramping up now, and didn't Jon post an Otter a couple of days ago? I think we could be getting that predicted Anniversary Stream/Direct.

Considering the disconfirmations goes up from characters to companies, I feel this might be the case.

Honestly the whole AT/spirits deconfirmation is more of a caseto case scenario...

For example we all know that a RE character isn't happening for fp5, or even fp6,7 or 8... why? because they likely know which are those characters already and since they know noone of them is resident evil, they just made a bunch of cool promotional re spirits.


Same happens with ATs or like with Rex, when they cemented the decision of who was an AT or a spirit, they already knew the identity of teh whole FP.

But on teh other hand, if you have... say, a list... of 10 extremely requested smash bros candidates, number one and number two are already in the game, number 3 was added via DLC, number 4, 5, 6 and 7 didn't made it, so they made them assist trophies as a consolation prize, and number 8 made it in teh roster as an echo. and number 9 is another AT. they aren't going to magically choose number 10 just because everyone more popular was made an assist trophy the next time they choose to put a higly requested character via DLC.

Honestly the cat leaker is quite confusing as hell, but if he gets KOS-MOS right, it'll be sooooo insane. Literally everyone is now gonna put up the cat face and it'll be as memetic as the Thumbs Up Ken.


Noen as of the moment. I'm impatient too but it's best just chillax right now.

I wish characters other than Miis could customize their aesthetics, if only to get cat ears to play as KAT-MOS for the meme.

Rex, and Pyra would have the highest chance, follow by Elma, and Shantae, honorable mention for Lyn due to her popularity in the FE community, and Krystal, one of the few remaining Star Fox members left (seriously just make Krystal a character and be done with it.)

I mean, at the same time, ALL of those also apply to many other characters, most of which don't have the setback of being content in the game already.

Characters like Sora and Phoenix Wright are popular on fan polls (even more than Shantae, and especially if other spirits/ATs are included), characters like Edelgard or Reimu can add more female characters, and characters like Dante and (again) Phoenix Wright could theoretically promote upcoming Switch games. And none of those characters have content in the game yet.
