Yeah, but that was a joint trailer, with one character being first party and both sharing a "theme". I really doubt we'd get one of these for two third parties, especially if they have nothing in common.

And if we get two separate trailers... that's quite a bit of time, especially when Nintendo, let alone other companies, have stuff to announce.

It might be the news about Half-Life: Alyx, but I suddenly want Gordon Freeman in Smash.

I doubt #5 is going to share a trailer with a character from outside the Pass, #5 was in all likelihood planned some time before they decided to do additional DLC, and in general it's probably better from a marketing perspective to keep anything from the Pass and afterwards separated. Also worth noting is that both times we've gotten two characters revealed in one trailer, one has been unique and the other has been an echo, so in general I think they just want to give the unique characters as big of a spotlight as possible, and probably even more so now that they have to sell separately.

Prime 4 just restarted development this year so it's a safe prediction that we're unlikely to receive any significant updates on it until next year at the earliest.
Still though, Nintendo will have Bayonetta 3, possibly BOTW 2 and other games in the pipeline. Some third party games could also feature if it's arranged like a Direct.

I can only imagine the collective groans if Nintendo spends parts of their time on upcoming Mario Kart Tour stuff.

Bayonetta 3 footage is long overdue. We don't even know wtf she looks like.

I think that's debatable. Who here cared about TGA before Joker's reveal last year? I know I didn't.
Wait, seriously? The biggest gaming awards show where Nintendo announced Bayonetta 3? And you didn't even have your eye on it for Smash? How?

The current Fighters Pass has all the characters coming with their own stages, each based on their home series.

Do you think the post-Pass characters will be the same, with 5 characters and 5 relevant stages? Or do you think it will handled differently, such as 5 characters and just one or two unrelated stages?
If I had to say, I think that 3rd party characters will bring a stage, as will characters from a new series but characters from an existing series will bring a couple music tracks, like Corrin did.

PG is busy with a lot of side ****. I don't think it's in development hell it's just not the focus rn. You don't rush perfection.

Bayo 3 is cancelled because they realized they've ran out of Frank Sinatra songs with "moon" in their names.

Dunno, having two characters at TGA would take up a lot of time. I mean, most people watch it for the announcements, but...

If we don't see anything until December 7, I think we're indeed getting CP5 at the VGAs. I really don't see them waiting for a January Direct or a February shadowdrop. In that case, we'll probably get more information on the next season when the last Pass fighter's dedicated presentation drops.
Bro, The Game Awards are traditionally 2 1/2 to 3 HOURS long. Smash trailers are usually 2:30 minutes long. So, a character getting announced as Fighter 5, Reggie Doug Bowser coming up and saying "This is the last fighter of the Fighters Pass but don't worry we have more.", then showing off the next fighter would take a MAX of 7 minutes. 7 minutes out of a 3-hour show for one of the biggest games of the year? That seems very possible.

For the love of god I want them to at least pacify LBV.
I don't. After the way they behaved, they don't deserve to get what they want.

The current Fighters Pass has all the characters coming with their own stages, each based on their home series.

Do you think the post-Pass characters will be the same, with 5 characters and 5 relevant stages?
I hope so. If the characters continue to be from new series, I think they'll continue to have a stage attached.

I think we'll either get an announcement of a Second Pass at TGA or we won't get a "Pass 2" and it will all be released separately.
Yeah, Sakurai didn't actually want to do the pass. He doesn't like charging people money for an unknown product. But Nintendo apparently insisted. We'll see which one of them gets their way with season 2.

Honestly, seeing two characters at TGA wouldn't surprise me. They did it for E3 and the next biggest thing that isn't E3 is, you guessed it, TGA.
The difference is the E3 thing was a dedicated Nintendo presentation. I'm not sure the TGA's are going to want them to do two trailers for DLC for one game.

I think that's debatable. Who here cared about TGA before Joker's reveal last year? I know I didn't.
I mean, I still don't care enough to actually watch the event. It's not like the trailer won't be on youtube 30 seconds later.

They didn't. My money is on this one.

I can't wait for the remix and end credit strip dance. The lyrics are Bayonetta af.

Bold of you to assume Bayonetta 3 isn't cancelled.
Bolder of you to assume its cancellation wasn't cancelled. :ultpacman:

I didn't mean "too much time" as in physically, but think of it like this: there's several companies, not just Nintendo, waiting to show stuff at TGA (new trailers for upcoming games, world premieres and the like), plus their concerts and stuff, not to mention breaks and the Awards themselves. I really don't think they'd push Smash so hard that we'd get two trailers in the middle of all that. Keep in mind - Joker's TGA reveal itself was kind of a last-minute deal, meaning it wasn't even planned initially until relatively close to the show.

So I really don't see Nintendo pushing Smash at TGA this much when they have other upcoming games. This isn't their E3 presentation where they can take up however much space and time they need, it's a general gaming event.

It's honestly never felt 'big' enough to matter, and even now, it's the kind of thing I'd rather skip and catch up on later.

E3, I'll keep my eyes on. TGS? Sure. Gamescom? Why not.
TGA? Just dump the results and trailers, please.

**** Sinatra. Use Bad Moon Rising.

I know Nintendo published a few Medabots games, but I don't know if that is where the franchise originated.

On the subject of the VGAs, I actually kinda hope they don't reveal FP5 and another character at the VGAs. I'm pretty confident we'll get FP5 at the VGAs but I want something else that isn't Smash to also be there. Smash isn't the only game Nintendo makes and I don't want their entire presence at the VGAs to be:

"Here's FP5 and also the next character, ok see ya!"

TGA is basically E3 in Winter.

Like, huge stuff gets announced there.

Yes, Medabots started as a videogame, people only remember the anime though, so he's in the same boat as agumon

I imagine if we do get anything like it from Nintendo, it'll be FP5 reveal, Season Pass 2 date and one or two new game trailers. I'm calling BOTW2 to get a new short teaser.

I'm vice versa. I'll watch the presentations if I can but I never stick around E3 for the gameplay demonstrations. Probably why I prefer TGA. Very straight to the point like old school press conferences used to be before we started getting a new car model at every Microsoft presentation.

The games were developed by Natsume in 1997, and they became an anime in 1999. I wasn't aware of this; I always thought that Medabots was an anime first and foremost, meant to cash in on the Pokemon/Digimon craze. (great show, at least for the first few seasons)

I tried looking into what else Natsume has developed, but their Wikipedia article is unnecessarily complicated in that regard. It looks like they (or at least one part of their company) published the Harvest Moon series.

Yes, the games predated the anime. Much like how the Pokemon games predated the anime etc.

Ikki wasn't even the original protag, but the second protag. So similar to Ness in terms of recognizability I guess, compared to the original protag.

It was a manga first starting in 97 and it got a big push into toys, video games and anime roughly in 99.

Edit: Fixed error in statement

Let's make this happen!
No Sam Stone?

Come on, come on - get serious!

Kind of along the lines of "FFII in the US is FFIV in Japan!", so I apologize to anyone bored by the history lesson, but:

Natsume Inc. published Bokujou Monogatari in the U.S. as Harvest Moon. Marvelous eventually switched over and had XSeed take over localization.
Due to the way the agreements were set up however, Natsume retained the rights to the Harvest Moon title. So all games localized after the change go by "Story of Seasons", while all new titles under the "Harvest Moon" banner are unrelated to the original series and contracted out by Natsume to cash in on the confusion.

I am still not sure what this means when it comes to content from older games Natsume did publish in the west though... HM64 did eventually get a Virtual Console release, so I guess the parties involved have straightened it out rhough...

We're gonna get at least one huge surprise game announcement out of Nintendo this year that's a given. 2017 had Bayonetta 3, 2018 had Ultimate Alliance 3, I'm thinking 2019 might have Super Mario Odyssey 2 or something similar. It'd be nice if they also, finally, show Bayonetta 3 again, Metroid Prime 4 in CGI form, and Breath of the Wild 2, but those last two seem particularly unlikely.

Nevertheless, at least one Smash character is basically guaranteed.

I actually have to amend my statement again. It's difficult to tell if the manga came before the games with Medabots. Having trouble finding the initial publish dates, simply finding 1997. Though the first game came out in November of 97, so I don't know if it was a tandem venture or if the manga happened just prior to the games to try and capitalize on the concept.

Well, wikipedia calls it a video game franchise and the manga and animes as adaptations. So I'm gonna go with that.

Fair enough! And I'm ok with our robot overlords should Medabots get a rep. I'd just never use anyone on the roster again. Pew pew!

I think a snippet of BoTW2 isn't that unlikely. Like another teaser trailer that's kinda ambigious to not spoil plot details.

Aside from that and Smash, maybe we'll get to see the rumored 2D Metroid game Vergeben mentioned if it is releasing in 2020. Or some other kind of 3D Mario as you mentioned.
