Saber is from the Fate series, she's pretty iconic in the anime scene but she actually originated as a game character, so she should be eligible for Smash.

Fate is definitely the biggest series in Japan that doesn't have a character yet, but I personally think it is unlikely that Fate will get a character due to the issues surrounding the larger series. It is possible though, and Fate is HUGE in Japan.

I know nothing of Fate, but I'd be fine with Saber.

That was literally my biggest "What?" when rumors of Ultimate DLC inbound. Same with Hayabusa, everyone latched onto them during leak seasons. Even if they were deconfirmed, they were potential locks due to the entire thing, but they never showed up in some people's radars before. That's pretty strange for a simple 4chan leaker to raise the hopes of the characters.

Every time I see those two I just clench my fist and punch a wall. I'm sorry if my reaction seemed offensive but...everyone's jumping to conclusions left and right. That isn't what a good fan should believe in honestly. If the leak were more reliable, say, Verge, then you go celebrate.

If you want a counterargument to my stance, what if Verge leaked Morrigan or something? Would I believe it right away? Not exactly. I would be surprised that the most credible leaker on the Smash community leaked my (former) most wanted (but still want nonetheless). But will believe it? I would not jump into 90% confirmations instantly. I would simply wait for the reveal, while I speculate.

I have faith in the higher-ups, and they have the word. So if Geno or Doomguy don't make it, don't blame me.

Also, I still really think Doomslayer is happening, I’m sorry if some people don’t want him, but it’s just hard to deny all of this evidence, it’s less like Isaac 2.0, it’s more like Banjo 2.0

Doom Slayer is basically the next Isaac/Steve. The only confirmed information is that Nintendo spoke with Bethesda, and even then it could be any Bethesda character.

I mean, I definitely feel that. I've been pulling for Doom Slayer since the Switch release and for Geno since, ****, at least since I've joined the boards so 5 years.

It just ain't worth stressing yourself out over it, if they don't get in then you're prepared for it, if they ARE in? You're gonna lose your **** even more than you would have originally.

I'm totally on board with a Doom Slayer reveal at TGA, and I bet they’ll couple it with a Doom Eternal trailer. Like they go through the trailer right and announce the release date. The screen fades to black and then fades back in with Doom Slayer knocked out in an unknown location. He awakens and wonders where he is and how he got here. The camera zooms out and it reveals the same landscape that's shown in the intro video of Smash, where Kirby was originally after Galeem absorbed all of the spirits (Battlefield) now replaced by Doom Slayer. A lone Master Hand roaming Battlefield surveying the area for more spirits sees Doom Slayer and attempts to take his spirit when the battle between the two begins which shows the splash screen for Doom Slayer!

Oh yeah, for sure. I'm so happy we have who we have that I'll be more than fine either way. Richter was a character I never would have thought had a chance, since I'm not big on Simon but love Castlevania. Yet he made it. He would probably be my second top pick if I ever thought he had a chance. So I've got my fill, even if I might miss on my favorite dessert.

While I would much prefer Dragonborn, I have to say that's an epic idea for a reveal trailer! I love it when two trailers are tied together, kinda like what they did with Isabelle reveal/Tom Nook announcing New Horizons.

My thoughts on Doom Slayer, copied from a DM I sent:

Doom Slayer has had a lot going for him besides the leak.
1. Bethesda has been butt buddies with Nintendo since the Switch launch.
2. Every DOOM game has been ported to Switch.
3. It is publicly known that Bethesda has talked to Nintendo about Smash Bros.
4. Reggie said that Nintendo has never been denied a character for Smash.
5. Doom Slayer is both a modern and legacy character. Though Master Chief is probably the most popular FPS character, Doom Slayer is the one that popularized the genre.
6. During one Sakurai interview, he mentioned game developers born in 1970, and the international one he named dropped was John Carmack, whom he referred to as "the father of FPS's".
7. Doom Slayer has been rumored A LOT, and often, when a rumor persists, there's something to it.
8. The leak.

So though I'm not saying it's guaranteed, I give Doom Slayer the same odds I gave Erdrick back when he was omnipresent in leaks, 90%.

The Slayer's trailer has to be preset by I. Dogma and go straight into Rip & Tear though, if we're being honest. Dogma is THE PERFECT intro for the most bad ass character in history and then followed up by some face melting metal? Blend that with some amazing CGI for Dogma and intense gameplay for RIP & Tear and you got absolutely unmitigated cinematic perfection.

^exactly what needs to be done in terms of music for his trailer.

Also, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that isn't it odd, assuming that Doom Slayer is Fighter 5 that two old prominent leaks were so close, being the 5chan leak and Google Leak?
Insiders have basically confirmed that Ryu Hayabusa is in in the future, and he was "leaked" really early on. So isn't it peculiar that 5chan may have mistook Steve, a Microsoft character, for Banjo, another Microsoft character? And even Vergeben was confident in Minecraft content early on.

It seems as if Nintendo has been developing DLC characters one at a time, so what if they intentionally changed the order to throw us all off?

Just a thought, and yes it's 4D chess, but it makes sense given the information insiders have given us.

Eh. If "Huge" is mainstream, current, triple-A game protagonist, I'd prefer we keep away from those entirely from now on.
Aside from getting Master Chief and getting months of "Is Halo coming to switch?", I don't think there'd be much meaningful conversation or expansion of fandoms provided by these types of character, TBH.

In terms of unrealistic picks, I'd say Tamamo no Mae or Osakabehime, but the whole Mai thing happened, so now they're even more unrealistic. >_>

Regarding FPS games:
I would be very amused (and slightly more satisfied) if after all this time, we end up getting Duke Nukem.

With all due respect, saying DOOM is the equivalent of DQ for FPS is flawed at best. DOOM was one of the pioneers of the FPS genre similar to DQ, but DQ managed to sustain its momentum to become the biggest JRPG in Japan, alongside with multiple spinoffs, successful media spin-offs (see the DQ manga) as well as a huge cultural impact into its home country. It's easy to tell that DQ got in on the basis of it being the biggest

DOOM on the other end petered out in the early 2000s and only had a resurgence in 2016, during which multiple FPS solidified their presence and have stayed there ever since,
Halo? Started in 2001 to great fanfare, became a juggernaut in the 2010s with multiple spinoffs as well as serving as the icon of Xbox. Even after its halycon days Halo 5 still performed better than DOOM 2016.
Counterstrike/TF dominated the PC scene and never let go, even today.
Then you have the newer FPS such as Overwatch (yes, it's still doing really well despite the ****storm Blizzard brought themselves in).
If you want to talk about Sakurai's preference, Half life is a possibility as well. It's the only FPS game he has personally praised, which is more than his one-off mention of John Carmack.

I like DOOM, the series deserved its return and his popularity among the smash crowd is definitely a big plus point. While he's a frontliner if we get a FPS rep, the lines aren't that clear cut as with DQ and JRPGs .
