Incineroar was probably more hype than Ridley or K. Rool for a lot of people. It's easy to forget, but we're very much in a bubble here as the .5% most enfranchised segment of the fanbase when it comes to discussing potential inclusions.

If they actually wanted the Pokemon to attract normie hype it wouldn't have been Incineroar.

I always find the Bamco discussions funny because the only character I really want from them is Klonoa... who imo is just not making it before Tales, Tekken and Souls at the very least.

I do wonder how many new companies we'll get until the end of Ultimate's DLC?

TBH the Game Awards probably aren't gonna feature Smash. It would make waaaaay more sense for another BOTW2 teaser or some kind of update on Bayo 3.

Nintendo has had multiple reveals / trailers at past Game Awards...

I think for general "Normie" gamers the most hype reveal was probably Isabelle. Everyone and their grandma has played Animal crossing.

For me personally, Inklings were the top reveal for me. Hecking love Splatoon so much and was thrilled to see 'em get in.

2. I'm pretty sure it was chosen before Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon came out just like with Greninja. There wasn't really a way to gauge its popularity.

And even then, the Smash fanbase isn't a hivemind. I've played Metroid games and DK64, but I haven't developed an attachment to those villains so their reveal was like more like "Damn, finally gott'em huh? Well I know a lot of people are gonna be happy about that." I was more hyped for Inklings.

Probably pretty high. People haven't stopped datamining. There's just nothing there to find anymore

The final character isnt going to be huge or hype. People constantly dragged Joker, Hero and Terry because they think Banjo is better. The DLC isnt going to appease everyone.

Western-wise might not be a bad idea to also consider Ubisoft due to past collaborations. And Japan-wise, there is also Cygames which is behind Granblue Fantasy and developed Dragalia Lost which is a major mobile game from Nintendo.

Yeah, even though I like Metroid and knew that Inkling was the most guaranteed lock there's ever been, I was still the most excited to see Inkling. Not that I had anything against Ridley or K. Rool, of course; they just didn't interest me that much, especially since I've never played DK games. It's all about which sections of the Nintendo ecosystem you've been exposed to.

I dunno, I have my doubts on Ubi. They've clearly been pushing Rayman, but got rejected twice.

That said, Ezio would be the frontrunner for them right now... though I dunno how likely that is.

I'm personally also shilling for Riot. PC gaming in Smash would be a big deal - Valve would also be huge in that front.

The next DLC character will be just like the others:

• Huge and hype to the target audience.
• A nice surprise for their affiliates and the people who don't care who it is.
• The worst thing ever for people who wanted something else.

What I mean to say is, the next character may not be the greatest pick ever, but it's not going to be niche RTS character or obligatory Pokémon levels of disappointing like everyone says in their counterpoint to the excitement.

This gives me an idea. Since Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield's complete Pokédex has been leaked, if you were forced to pull a Pokémon from the new games, which one would you pick, and why would it be Grooky's final evolution?

EDIT: Oh, and put any unofficially revealed Pokémon in a spoiler box unless we're somehow still having this conversation after the two games have released.

Yeah they are. I only brought it up for fun, but it would be crazy if we get 2 characters from Koei-Tecmo that represent 1 side of the company you know.

Also, I once read up that Tecmo almost got bought out by Square Enix before merging with Koei. Thinking about it makes me think how strange it'd be if SE owned DoA and Ninja Gaiden.

I personally would like Estelle more, but Ys is older and closer to being Falcom's key franchise. I'd love for Falcom to pull an SNK, though...

Brew pretty much admits Hayabusa being Fighter #5 could be wrong, like how Verge predicted the SE rep first to be wrong. Basically, he jumped the gun.

The idea would be that Ryu would be the first fighter of S2. Which would mean that Doomabusa would happen between now and the VGAs which sounds weird given the previous fake leaks.

In general, I would say the leak was real since it had Rocket Grunt, Goemon, Proto-man, Zero, Mallow/Smithy, and 1 more that I forgot. 4 of these came in the September direct, although the leak didn't guess Sans.

That said, the leaker leaked some other information afterwards such as Crash for FP #5, and the SNK Mii costumes, but ended up getting both those things wrong.

Mallow/Smithy are the only ones in the original leak that have not gotten a costume yet.

Dragon Quest's Hero was IMO a character that needed to eventually happen, this franchise was too big to be ignored even if it's popularity was mostly in Asia.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. Even if I'm not a huge Dragon Quest fan it was a matter of time for DQ to being in Smash. I'm a Final Fantasy fan and if DQ was added before FF I would completely understand that, honestly.

Another franchise which is a matter of time to see in Smash is Resident Evil, in my opinion.

Yeah, if Smash got a Type/Moon character I would think it would have to be Archer, since Saber has official porn of her out there.

That said, a TYPE/MOON rep in general is still unlikely just due to FATE being very NSFW sometimes.
