I saw slightly more requests for Roy (about two more maybe). However, in general they were typically paired together in requests.

Another interesting tidbit that I found on some inactive Japanese Smash Bros. blog was that Meta Knight, Marth, and Ike are the three most used characters in Brawl by Japanese players. It was not an online poll, but rather some study that was done. If this is indeed the case, then I would say Ike is a lock to return regardless if he is rendered unimportant to the Fire Emblem series by Smash 4.

It will also probably mean that that we will likely get more sword-users for Smash 4.

It's good to see more FE support, since FE was once a major Nintendo franchise up there with Mario and Zelda (before Pokemon took over), and should certainly get more/as many as an almost dead series like SF.

This is the list. Some characters are a lot harder to find than others. Paper Mario being one of them. I don't even know if they call him that?

I actually visited a Japanese Smash forum recently to see what they wanted for Smash 4. Surprisingly, there was little consensus on who should be in. I did see a lot of requested though for Roy and Mewtwo to return though. Most of the suggestions for characters we want only got two suggestions, with the majority of suggestions being stuff you would see suggested on IGN's boards (a lot of obscure fighting game and anime characters were suggested). The topic regularly became a flame war between several posters about absurd topics about the relevance of obscure fighting series and voice actors.

Overall, I think most Japanese Smash fans were satisfied with Brawl's roster, which is why there was practically no characters suggestions outside of Roy and Mewtwo. I think the Western Smash Bros. fanbase is trending toward this too, with the only characters there being a consensus in regards to inclusion being Ridley, Mega Man, Isaac, Little Mac, and K. Rool.

Still keeping your Roy hopes alive as well, eh Chrono? And I'm not surprised about Roy or Mewtwo being supported.

Most of us were at least fairly satisfied with Brawl's roster; however, I need to ask: Is there much support for characters like Paper Mario, Dixie Kong (maybe not as popular), and even Pac-Man, Geno and Tails?

Also, in the Generation 5 Pokémon flame war/discussion, what 5th Generation Pokémon are the most popular/most mentioned?

What about support for Pichu's or Dr. Mario's return as well, along with possibly what Young Link model should be used?

Well I was telling him how difficult it was to design my Slime Kirby and told him I'm not going to start making anymore. Then I jokingly alluded that now that I have created the resources I could reuse them with other Kirby's. Insinuating I might make more.

Pretty interesting information you found there, okay let's say Ike does indeed get a "lock" and makes it back, supposing that this study was true and Sakuraia got a view on it, what sword character would you most likely consider seeing aside from Roy?

I think Ike gets the lock because of multiple reasons. He's popular, he's stared in multiple Fire Emblem games (the only other Fire Emblem character to be the star in two or more games is Marth), and he's completely original.

The most likely sword character newcomers I would say are Takamaru and Magnus (especially in light of Sakurai's comment lamenting how few characters were created in the interim between Brawl and Smash 4 that are worthy for playable inclusion). Samurai Goroh would also have been likely if F-Zero were not a dead series.

Anyway, on the comment of F-Zero, I saw something surprising. Apparently, the idea of Black Shadow taking Ganondorf's current moveset has indeed made its way to Japan. If F-Zero were not dead, I would say that Black Shadow would have had really good chances to make it in Smash 4.

I have no idea, but I think they might refer to him as "Story Mario" since the Paper Mario games are called Mario Story in Japan. Dunno how that would look in Japanese.

Actually Chris, I agree with you for once, if Sakurai were to take a worldwide approach and take the western community into consideration regarding his poll, I feel it would represent his roster more accuratly to what is actually wanted in the game, if anything it would probably influence him to get a said character that would otherwise never get in if it isn't considered by the Japenese community, hopefully Sakurai takes a larger approach to this as well.

Its a topic. Not a poll. Its was a fan site, not an official site. I tried to make a post explaining the characters that the Western Smash Bros fanbase would like to see in Smash 4. It was something simple:

"These are the characters that the overseas Smash Bros. fans would like:
Ridley
Rock Man (Mega Man's Japanese name)
Little Mac
Robin (Isaac's Japanese name)
K. Rool

We would also like to see Mewtwo and Roy return."

While I won't get into specifics, that's somewhat wrong.

Ike's been in 2 FE games along with all the other playable characters in his games.

Marth has been in 4 FE games and the same as above.

The Pegasus Sisters have been playable in 5 FE games, the most in the series.
